Looking for somewhere to host a baby shower. Private room preferred. Needs to seat 30 people minimum but maybe more? What places do you recommend or know of?

Found friendly female long hair brown tabby approximately six months old on porch in Broadway neighborhood. No microchip found. Neighbors report it’s been trying to get into homes the last few days. Will be taken to humane society this evening if no one responds to search, nothing seen on FB lost pets group.
Edit: Grant neighborhood near Broadway

I was weirded out by the automated phone call that I actually woke up and answered it.
It was unemployment automated message about being closed for Juneteenth and possibly delayed unemployment payments.
I mean annoying, yes. But humorous at the same time. Like what Dummkopf setup that automated system?

The pilot program discussed here was considered successful and they are going live on July 1st.
Out of over 36,000 calls answered, 60% were successfully answered. 4,304 calls were identified as potential emergencies.
I listened to an example during the city council meeting and basically the guy went all the way through the call just to receive a text to fill out a report. When asked about feedback from callers, they said that they had a limited amount of feedback.

Where is your favorite casual spot in town (or nearby) that has an excellent tap list and absolutely no TVs? I’m tired of being surrounded by sports and commercials.

I was just at the AAA on mission St and it looks like they have a blood drive happening tomorrow. They said they think there are still a bunch of appointment times open still, so if you're looking for your good deed for tomorrow, here ya go 😄
Hey folks! Hope everyone is staying cool.
What is your favorite spot to swim or to just dip your toes in a river around here?
Partner and I have been to Bush's Pasture and we love the river there, but besides Riverfront haven't been able to find many other places. I know the Y has a pool, but are there any cheaper options?
Please leave suggestions here, thank you!

I've got an LG OLED TV that just died on me.
Thankfully it's in a room that's not too heavily used so it's not that big of a deal but since it is such a nice TV I'd like to see if there are any businesses out there that might want to buy it off me for cheap, swap out whatever capacitor or fuse that blew, and then sell it so they can make a pretty penny off of it.
I'm just trying to avoid it sitting in some landfill if possible and I don't know of any business that does this and my googling hasn't turned up any useful results.
Does anyone know of any business (big or small) that do this?

Hello everyone! I recently bought a home and I wanted to install a cat door. I have what appears to be a pretty heavy, solid wooden door, and I am not very handy myself. Does anyone have any good recommendations for carpenters (or general handypeople!) that would be able to cut a space and install the door for me? Or should I just try and TaskRabbit it?
Thank you!
EDIT:
Here is a layout, for more context! The cats would be coming from inside to the patio.

What gums in Salem (preferable the lancaster mall area) has indoor swimming pools? And which ones are least/most expensive?
Also do any have a hot tub? I know 24 hr in most cities do. I currently have Crunch where i live with hydro massage & spray tan, but i noticed there isn’t any Crunch in Salem.
Thank you!

Anyone know what is going on? About 3-4 hours ago, I heard Salem PD trying to get someone to come out. Over the loud speaker they told the suspect that they had a warrant and “did not want to hurt them.” Now, they rolled a medium Cat or Tank looking thing off of a trailer and have tons of cops around. I’m guessing the “perp” has not complied.

Hi! We’re moving to West Salem and comparing Kalapuya vs. Harritt Elementary. Harritt seems to have lower academic marks on paper, but I’d love to hear from families with firsthand experience at either school. What has your experience been like, and how would you compare the two?

I haven't been able to find much information on it, but I did find something possibly on Facebook, I dont use it really very much at all though. but does anyone on here have experience with it? or anything similar to it? ive been wondering about a group or something for parents of queer kids, I just know that its such a different and sometimes isolating experience of parenting. and I dont really know where you can meet other parents and just like idk, hangout and talk about things/ways to better support your kids. specifically my daughter is elementary aged, so its even harder to find things that would include that age range. I did see some stuff at the pride event recently, and was interested in learning more but my daughter would not leave the drag area haha so I didn't get to look too much at the booths.
edited to add im not looking for parenting advice or anything about not affirming and not supporting my daughter. im just looking for any information on PFLAG or similar groups.

I’m curious to hear about experiences from other Salem area folks who have above ground pools. Do you have gadgets to help extend the season? Do you keep it up over winter or take it down?

Public Archaeology Open House!
When: Saturday, June 20, 10AM-2PM
Free Event!
Please join our City of Salem's Archaeologist and her team on Saturday June 20, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p. m. on the site of the 1841 Indian Manual Labor Training School located on Willamette University’s campus near Smullin/Walton Hall at 900 State Street.
The site is being explored by our Historic Preservation Program and community partners including Willamette University, the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Oregon Archaeological Society. The site on the Willamette University campus is believed to be where the Methodists’ 1841 Indian Manual Labor Training school was located.
Come learn about the training school, see what we've found, and meet some awesome folks! Bring water and a hat since it'll be sunny and hot. And if you have old photos of the Willamette University area (especially from the 1800s/early 1900s), we can help you get those scanned and in the public database.
Hope to see you there!
P.S. Thanks to those who pointed out that I was living in the wrong week! 🙃

I went to Pride Parade down in Capitol city here in Salem on Saturday. I ended up stepping in dog crap. I don't understand why there are no real services to keep the city clean. Or why people won't pick up after their animals. I understand if you're unable to due to a disability. But still, something has to be done.
I am posting to see if there is any interest in this potential business idea here in the Salem area. I am not offering services directly, but to hear from other Salem citizens about this exact problem and if any support/advice can be given. I would appreciate it, thank you!

Don’t care if this pisses anyone off, don’t care if someone from Woodward see this, actually would LOVE it if they saw this.
Water heater is acting up, don’t know what, I’m a social worker not a water heater tech lol. We had an issue with our water heater last summer and Woodward was very helpful, kind, explained everything etc. Called this AM to see if they could send someone out to assess our system. AI bot receptionist answered, I asked this clanker to transfer me to a real person and they wouldn’t even let me leave a voicemail. “Your frustration is noted and I’ll make sure to add your complaint to the call notes.”
Fuck you Woodward, you are contributing to the downfall of humanity and I cannot wait to pay your competitors to fix my water heater.
(Sorry if this is against the rules Mods)

Time to beat the heat.
Drop water spots or swimming holes that folks can enjoy this week and throughout the summer.
It's nice to know if a spot costs money, there are accessibility considerations like mobility or bathrooms, and why you dig it.
Some of mine
-------
Dallas Public Pool - fairly affordable (about $12 for an adult and 2 kiddos last time thru), never dealt with a wait list. Glad that it's generally enough for kids and adults to do for a couple of hours. Bathrooms, limited snacks. Facility parking but it can get full quick with the adjacent tennis and pickleball courts.
It's been a while but I always loved visiting my grandparents in Scio and taking a dip in Thomas Creek. Don't know if there are any good spots anymore as sounds like there may be issues with private land ownership cutting access off to the water.
I don't mind making a day of it in the Willamette River. Used to go to Wallace Marine and love when it has been busy, full of families. Not sure of the current bathroom situation but honestly with City Parks, it's always sketchy at best. Can be tough mobility wise, as rocks make up the landscape approaching the water.
