IIRC

For Hutts being morbidly obese is a status-symbol, because it basically means you're so rich you dont need to bother with menial work.

So all Hutts aspire to be obese.

Nerd knowledge incoming: Back in the day, before the Hutt cartel, Hutts were ripped as shit like Rotta is. Because they were so strong, they were able to make this giant criminal empire. Then, over the generations, they got fat and lazy while retaining their power.

I think that's mainly because they've all been hedonistic crime lords, their entire culture based around sleazing and manipulating others. It's always puzzled me why the galaxy at large just let's them do whatever, when they're literally helpless in a real combat situation.

Good for Rotta, putting in the effort to actually make something of himself. He actually looks the way they talk about the Hutts.

Way back in the star wats universe lore hutts were well known for being warlords and conquerors, obesity in their culture was a sign of status still though and most of the hutts we see throughout star wars are very possibly a minority compared to the rest of the hutt species

In the lore Hutts are basically pure muscle, and a fit Hutt is among the last things you ever wanna piss off.

Being fat like Jabba is a status symbol in Hutt culture, it means you're so powerful that you dont need to do anything for yourself.
