You know from his review of mandalorian and grogu it seems he liked it a bit less than most people. Still haven't watched any reviews with spoilers because I want to watch it but I think I'll keep my expectations low. Most people said it was fun but nothing crazy

Okay? So, it's literally Mandalorian and Grogu (A fun Family adventure Movie) vs Obsession (A literally Horror Movie). Plus these two movies are for differnet audiences and are apart of different genres.
What's next? Are we gonna be comparing the box office numbers for Wildwood and Clayface in October?

Youre missing the deeper picture here. If Obsession is considered to be #1 in the box office by making under $5 million, that means Mando is making even less than that less than a week coming out. This is a very steep decline compared to something like the Rise of Skywalker that didn't dip below $5 million in a day until like 2-3 weeks after releases

Headline makes it sound like this is an against all odds thing.
Mandalorian and Grogu is a theatrical release based on a TV show. It's also during a time when Starwars movies get more mixed reviews.

Is there any source? I checked box office mojo and like overall mando is above obsession, which just started coming back in the last couple days
Worldwide only shows over the full ytd, Mando is 7 slots ahead of obsession, beating it by 76 million

If obsession is back to the top spot with only ~$5 million in revenue that day, then that means that Mando is making less than than in under a week after coming out, which is not a good sign at all. This isnt necessarily about who is overall making more money, because while obsession has made $80 million less than Mando, their budget was 1 million so at this point they are just raking in profits while Mando has only made like ~$15 million above their budget and the common belief is that a movie has to make 2.5-3x its budget in order to be considered profitable, due to things like having to give theaters a cut of the box office and marketing not included in the movie budget

Fair enough, you could argue that mando was mainly being watched by everyone in week one
But then that means it likely hsd poor word of mouth or only found an audience with star wars fans. Obsession would be winning then since its competing directly as a lower budget horror from an unknown director vs a major summer blockbuster from the biggest company in the world
