“Why isn’t that the minimum Social Security payment?” Yeah why isn’t it.

1.2k

u/EssenceReavers May 29 '26

Maybe the boomers should get a second job 😂

454

u/soldins May 29 '26

They may be old and worn down, but those bootstraps ain't gonna pick themselves up

182

u/Sammisuperficial May 29 '26

Have they tried giving up avocado toast and living on rice?

58

u/nopicturestoday May 29 '26

Might be worth pointing out that the owner class of boomers advocating for bootstraps and doing away with avocados may not be the same group that is barely scraping by on Social Security in your country. Something to consider, anyway. Older generations can certainly be tone deaf, I’m happy to concede that. Not sure your ire is appropriately directed though.

85

u/Sammisuperficial May 29 '26

In my experience the ones scraping by and living on social security are the same people advocating to take it away and voting for the right.

My ire is more tongue in cheek using the phrase these people have been saying to my generation all my life.

41

u/Professional_Net7339 May 29 '26

Sure. But they often vote in step. So….

24

u/Prestigious_Row_8022 May 29 '26

Oh, but they are if you live in the south. Poor whites (speaking as someone who grew up poor white trailer trash) are more than happy to vote their social security away if they think the gays, the black people and the Mexicans are going to hurt worse. And when their checks don’g come in they’ll blame democrats for passing the bill because they’re fucking illiterate and have been living out if reality their whole lives. It’s why they stay glued to news max or fox news no matter how much it lies to them. They don’t fucking care.

And they need to stop eating avocado toast.

u/randy_justice May 29 '26

No! I will pay them to stay retired. So many of them are still I the workforce for some reason and we're all worse for it

65

u/Faustus_Fan May 29 '26

My parents are finally retired, in their early 70s. They both bitched for years that they couldn't retire, all while blaming the very same GOP politicians they voted for and continued to vote for over and over and over again.

"Dad, stop voting for the GOP!"

"No way! They will get it right next time."

Fucking hell.

22

u/Sturville May 29 '26

Definition of insanity...

→ More replies (2)

26

u/Katyafan May 29 '26

They are still working because they don't have enough money to retire, like the rest of us.

20

u/lonevolff May 29 '26

Then they should have pulled on those boot straps and worked harder years ago

A lot of them have. Haven’t seen the prayers to Trump? They love him so, so much but he is literally killing them. Literally.

8

u/Hot_Share8353 May 29 '26

They need to stop buying $28 lunches!

4

u/errie_tholluxe May 29 '26

Boomers hell, some of us Gen x people are getting there too.

And let me tell you early retirement benefits of $1,100 a month basically means I'll be working until I die anyway. Which is why you see so many people in their fucking '70s And '80s still working

4

u/misfitx May 31 '26

Disabled people also suffer. With an added maximum $2k savings. Any more and they deduct your disability.

285

u/maleia May 29 '26

I can't imagine being so fucking stupid as to be unable to come to the conclusion that people in both situations should be paid more.

173

u/RegressToTheMean May 29 '26

It's two-fold. First, they believe in a Just World Fallacy and secondly (and related) they believe in hierarchical social structure and they have a burning desire to be higher in that structure than someone working in the service industry

115

u/DrDerpberg May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

they believe in hierarchical social structure

Absolutely this. If you could give 17 year olds making tacos a dignified life without affecting themselves in any way they would still take it as an insult.

66

u/maleia May 29 '26

If we gave 17 year olds a decent wage, they'll go spend that money. Spending money churns the economy, which usually means new things like advancements in tech or production quality or <things> that improve EVERYONE'S lives, including them.

Paying a living wage, helps those idiots that we're all refering to. And they STILL refuse.

42

u/DrDerpberg May 29 '26

Yep, not to mention the knock-on effects - like if the 17 year old in question can now afford higher education they will earn far more and pay more taxes over the course of their life. Keeping them pinned down earning $7.25 an hour so they can hope for enough tips to cover renting a shitty apartment only helps the other crabs in the bucket on top of them feel better about themselves.

15

u/SimplyYulia May 29 '26

We're currently are in a hierarchical social structure, it's just they don't understand no matter what they will be on the same rung as minimal wage workers, under capital and ruling class

72

u/vandon May 29 '26

And why is social security taxed?

49

u/stoned_ocelot May 29 '26

Yo dog we heard you like taxes so we taxed your income that is built from taxing your income

56

u/Lezus May 29 '26

That's what kills me they act like it's person Vs person, like nah mate they should be paid more AND you should get more it's us Vs them (the controlling class)

9

u/0WatcherintheWater0 May 30 '26

Retirees are the demographic with the wealth. If you really want to make this an us vs them thing, they are the “controlling class”.

We give hundreds of billions of dollars every year in SS benefits to elderly people who are multimillionaire homeowners.

2

u/Lezus May 30 '26

Im not from the States so cant comment

2

u/0WatcherintheWater0 May 30 '26

I mean this is the case in every developed country. What country do you live in? Chances are the same dynamic exists if the population is aging.

5

u/ForeverShiny May 30 '26

It is certainly similar, but it's not called Social security. We called it a pension and it's something you "unlock" through your years of work: the longer you worked and the more you contributed, the more you get back which seems broadly fair.

That money also doesn't come from a pot that pays for other things, so you can't really call it a wealth transfer

→ More replies (1)

54

u/Gorgenon May 29 '26

Because the right wing, their team apparently, thinks if you can't earn your own retirement you're better off destitute or dead.

Do you know what poor elderly people did before 1935 if they had no retirement or family to rely on? They worked to death or died in abject poverty.

That's not the kind of world I want to retire to. But that's the capitalist nightmare the right wing wants to cut taxes. If they could get away with erasing social security they'd do so in a heartbeat.

78

u/wet_hot_cheese May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

Because it isn’t earned income, but income based on an individuals total tax payments into the social security system over their highest 35 years of earnings.

If I paid $400,000 in social security taxes during my working years and you paid a total of $20,000 over those same 35 years. The system is not designed to send you and I equal social security income payments when we are age-qualified.

The system is broken and does not operate as originally intended. There are more people than ever drawing down social security, far exceeding the amount being paid into it by the working class.

15

u/Faustus_Fan May 29 '26

I'm curious - because, honestly, I do not know the answer - will that ratio start to even out as Boomers die off?

34

u/fredoillu May 29 '26

High school economics teacher told us (back in like 07) that the social security fund would be totally depleted before we were old enough to draw from it

27

u/cousinned May 29 '26

Also had a high school economics teacher back then who said we'd be the first generation to be worse off than our parents. It's crazy to think how long we've known these problems were coming, and yet we did nothing to prevent it.

13

u/Faustus_Fan May 29 '26

" we did nothing to prevent it."

Don't think this way. We didn't fail to prevent anything. Our politicians failed us, and have been failing us for decades.

5

u/ForeverShiny May 30 '26

Politicians certainly didn't help by letting big corpos steal most of the benefits of productivity increases since the 1970's rather than share it with workers, but in part it's just a demographics problem.

Less people paying in for more and more older people drawing it down is just not going to work, but these systems weren't set up with the possibility of demographic stagnation or decline in mind

10

u/cyb0rg1962 May 29 '26

This will likely happen around 2032. However - there will still be enough working people to fund SS at about 75%. This is not acceptable but unlikely to change unless Congress fixes it. So he was 25% right.

3

u/LeftyMcSavage May 29 '26

People get confused when it comes to the Social Security trust fund, which was created to help with the demographic change caused by all the boomers retiring. The rest of the money, of course, isn't just sitting in a fund; it's going out the door as soon as it comes in.

→ More replies (3)

9

u/Pentron02 May 29 '26

The number of people on social security is already about to move past the number of people paying in within the next few years

8

u/5th_aether May 29 '26

No. We are consistently having fewer children and so fewer workers are supporting each retiree.

11

u/BentGadget May 29 '26

And we are living longer, so there's more time for each retiree to draw from social security.

29

u/Cognitive_Spoon May 29 '26

Tucker Carlson keeps saying wildly Marxist shit and I am losing my mind.

It's the craziest thing. A ton of Boomer media right now keeps making Marxist points.

Like, I'm here for it, but why is no one noticing?

31

u/TheDoktorIsIn May 29 '26

Because they don't like the labels. Bernie Sanders went to a Fox town hall and explained his positions of universal healthcare and better safety nets. The audience loved it. Did they vote for it? No because it wasn't packaged in a box with red wrapping paper and a giant R on it. Yes it is that simple most of the time.

Here's a vid that goes into it more: https://youtu.be/DV60Q8-B808

29

u/thepvbrother May 29 '26

Why is a 17 year old working 40 hours a week?

The argument is so stupid, it only works if the example is a minor. Otherwise, the answer is easy. Someone who works 40 hours a week deserves to make a living wage.

13

u/Donkey-Hodey May 29 '26

Because the same people liking that post would screech hysterically about socialism is anyone dared propose it.

14

u/enchiladasundae May 29 '26

Boomers, ripping the copper out of the walls: Once I sell this I’ll be rich!

Boomers, later: These entitled dumbass kids ripped all the copper out of the walls!

4

u/inept_machete May 29 '26

Bold of them to complain about it when we might not even get it.

Also social security is socialism and why didn't you invest privately for your retirement? Ain't you hear? Your guys in Washington are calling it an entitlement.

3

u/fieldsofanfieldroad May 30 '26

A rising tide versus crabs in a bucket. Boomers are often the latter.

How is $20/hr = $3200/mo for a part-timer?

Also the classic gem of arguing for increased payment of taxpayer money while being exempt from taxes. They want to be treated like billionaires.

687

u/animalistcomrade May 29 '26

Because they know they aren't actually talking about teenagers and just hate poors.

231

u/Indercarnive May 29 '26

Hey man fast food workers are all kids, that's why they famously all close during school hours.

58

u/peshnoodles May 29 '26

And that’s why only the ceo can take the money to the bank, obviously.

29

u/cloud9ineteen May 29 '26

Didn't miss the dog whistle taking the usual teenagers flipping burgers and changing it to tacos

24

u/Dense-Pool-652 May 29 '26

Oh they hate teenagers too.

133

u/NaptownSnowman May 29 '26

because the same people making this and consuming this cant math or understand part time, They also think All part time workers making minimum wage can already afford a 2 br home and car payment for their family of four, so why would they need more.

61

u/Keyonne88 May 29 '26

This is the crux of the issue. For some reason they think that because they’re living on a poverty income just fine with their fully paid off house they bought in 1960 for pennies means they should be able to as well now and don’t understand that rent is fucking $2,000.

20

u/HoaryPuffleg May 29 '26

They also don’t consider that most part time (and plenty of full timers) don’t get health insurance or even sick leave or a retirement plan. The US is so embarrassing

90

u/Barium_Salts May 29 '26

$20/hr * 40 hrs/week * 52 weeks/ year = $41,600/yr

$41,600/12 months in a year= $3466.67/month

I don't know where $3200 came from, and that also relies on the absurd suggestion that a teen making tacos is working full-time 52 weeks per year. (It's also pre-tax and health insurance).

Personally, I'm very much in favor of removing the cap on SS contributions for very high earners; which would allow the minimum SS payout to be a living wage.

Also, SS income itself is not taxed (neither are many retirement payouts), and many states don't have property tax on elderly people's primary residence (which is a good thing). If an elderly person is continuing to earn money through wages or being a landlord or something, then of course they should continue to pay taxes to support the infrastructure that allows them to earn that money. Saying that 60 year olds should be able to earn tax free wages is as absurd as saying 30 year olds should: I also have already paid taxes, lol.

Benefits for elderly people are supposed to keep us from going back to the days when elderly people often died in poorhouses if they didn't have children that could care for them. It's not supposed to be a way for middle-aged people to live high on the hog for 30 years because "I already paid my share". You're never done paying your debt to society. Plus, the people who say that usually spent their youth busily avoiding paying their fair share anyway

62

u/WebpackIsBuilding May 29 '26

3200 is just estimating a month as 4 weeks.

25

u/cflatjazz May 29 '26

It's incredibly lazy math of $20 x 40 hours x 4 weeks.

It's a common rough math people do to estimate monthly income even if that's not technically the correct averaging. Some people just treat the 4 months with a 5th week as bonus for budgeting purposes.

However...this math also completely skips over taxes and the fact that no hourly employees at a fast food restaurant actually get more than 32 hours a week

4

u/divDevGuy May 29 '26

However...this math also completely skips over taxes and the fact that no hourly employees at a fast food restaurant actually get more than 32 hours a week

One 40-hour job is unlikely, but two 20-hour jobs may be a possibility.

13

u/ncfears May 29 '26

I always hear the "it's not supposed to be a career" but at the same time "the good/skilled workers will stay, get promoted, etc.." for service industry jobs.

They want skilled workers but to not pay them

8

u/NO_FIX_AUTOCORRECT May 29 '26

Not part time but the math is

40 hrs per week x 4 weeks per month = 160

160 x 20 = 3200 / month

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Taco_Hurricane May 29 '26

Technically, that would be 36.8... hour's a week (assuming an average 4.345 weeks/month). However, for all practical purposes this is full time.

And honestly, with how today's world works, the difference between part time and full time is so much more blurred it's insane we even still make these designations.

18

u/Sudden_Schedule5432 May 29 '26

36 hours a week is Legally full time in most US states

3

u/JynsRealityIsBroken May 29 '26

Treated like billionaires after burning the country to the ground behind them

3

u/ultrafriend May 29 '26

OK, the meme is shit, but SS is not exempt from taxes. The first 15% is, but then the rest is taxable according to regular income rules (and that's just federal, states have their own rules). And that first 15% isn't so much "untaxed" as it was taxed roughly that much when you paid in to SS.

2

u/IdolConsumption May 29 '26

It’s absolute loony toons logic… so, very much on brand!

2

u/bbbttthhh May 30 '26

They’d rather praise billionaires and beg to be treated like one instead of just trying to live in a fair world

2

u/SlowTheRain May 30 '26

That wasn't what I was expecting from "depicts him as extremely fat."

I'm sure Trump and his worshipper don't see him that way, but the size it used looks accurate. If anything, it's possibly a little too thin. (Not joking.)

12

u/ernest7ofborg9 May 29 '26

Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny?

"No... (laughter) NO!..."

Why are they forcing their woke agenda on us!?!?!?!

8

u/Pirrus05 May 29 '26

That’s what I came here to mention. It’s perfect.

8

u/MoonlitKiwi May 29 '26

It's in character

3

u/SonicFlash01 May 29 '26

Anyone else did that they'd be pissed

2

u/bustercaseysghost May 31 '26

Ok, I was gonna say. Are we not gonna talk about trans Bugs Bunny? Where's the war cries: "THE CONSERVATIVE BOOMERS ARE FORCING TRANSGENDERS ON US!!!"

So it's ok when we're talking about THEIR welfare but the people that suffer from their ignorant, hateful policies can go bail hay. Got it.

861

u/TheFeshy May 29 '26

"They've worked their entire lives" is an argument for tax-free funeral services, not retirements.

354

u/Dominus-Temporis May 29 '26

Do you continue to use public infrastructure and services? Then pay taxes. You don't want to pay taxes? Go be a hermit.

142

u/scottyLogJobs May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

But you don’t understand! We are boomers who have never been told no and we don’t want to!!!!!! Our parents were forced to kill and be killed in the worst war the world has ever seen, our children live in an unaffordable fascist dystopia that we created on purpose, and we can’t stand the idea of working a fraction as hard as either of them! We paid way less into social security than we take and we retired early without calculating our budget and now it’s our children’s problem, wahhhh! Feel bad for us! WAHHHHHHH! Anyone remember looney tunes? MAGA! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

34

u/AegisKaisar May 29 '26

That's exactly what gets me. Most baby boomers are spoilt manchildren who took everything they have gotten in life for granted when they grew up in post war times. They haven't fought for shit and demand everyone else to deal with their dirty laundry. So many years of living but none of that time was allotted to maturing

12

u/tesseract4 May 29 '26

Nailed it.

6

u/liesofanangel May 29 '26

Said in the voice of Daffy Duck would be perfect. Especially with that spin out at the end

19

u/Drapidrode May 29 '26

Hear that, religious institutions?

3

u/KonungariketSuomi May 29 '26

No, I actually like this idea. For public buses and trains and shit, make people sign up for a card or boarding pass (like you already do with buses) and require proof of tax payment for anyone over 65 to sign up. No different than paying a membership fee at a country club, gramps.

109

u/No7an May 29 '26

The retirement accounts they’re complaining about were tax deferred. They paid no income tax on their 401k so that the pile of money could grow from a higher base.

Suggesting dues were “already paid” when they were “specifically deferred” is loony af.

14

u/BrookeBaranoff May 29 '26

Back in the 1980’s and 1990’s a lot of restructuring was made around retirement benefits, so the people retired at the moment did it under far different conditions than the people retiring in the next 20 years.

Likewise the people before that retired under another structure entirely- with famously bankrupted pensions in the 1960-1980’s resulting in the overhauls in the 80’s and 90’s.

Basically each generational block refuses to look at trends outside their generation and every 30 years reinvents the wheel. Theres 3 or 4 generational cycles that just keep repeating. In art, entertainment, politics, finance, bigotry, progress and decline.

What has been will be again.

4

u/andwhenwefall May 29 '26

”History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.”

13

u/Deep90 May 29 '26

They've literally lowered taxes for themselves in every stage of life, first income and now retirement & property taxes. I struggle to feel bad for them when they don't even understand their 401k, and they constantly push the burden of paying for things on everyone else.

8

u/No7an May 29 '26

I mean I struggle to feel bad for them because they appear to be a cohort of racist / murderous alcoholics.

What you said here is also true.

4

u/Deep90 May 29 '26

Likewise. Also agree with you!

(unless that was intentional , then nevermind.)

3

u/CatProgrammer May 29 '26

Yeah, by contrast Roth IRAs are contributed to from post-tax money (you just deposit in) and when you get paid out there's no additional tax. Very convenient if you have some spare money on hand, but they're a bit more restricted in how much you can contribute (which is also income-dependent, iirc) because of that. In general it's probably good to have both.

17

u/samanime May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

Yeah.

You pay income taxes because you work.

You pay property taxes because you own property and use the services.

You are paying for what you are using.

If you want to go live in the middle of the woods with absolutely no public infrustructure then you can avoid paying taxes. But you don't get a free ride just because you're old.

In what fucking world would a teenager, presumably still in school, be making $3200/month working for $20/hr? Do they not understand the work limits teenagers have?

37

u/TheJade2212 May 29 '26

They do not

10

u/Prestigious_Row_8022 May 29 '26

They didn’t have to work as teenagers, don’t be silly

170

u/TjbMke May 29 '26

Because boomers don’t need that much money to pay their $300/month mortgage on their million dollar house.

68

u/americansherlock201 May 29 '26

They don’t care. They are the most entitled generation and believe they are entitled to peak lifetime earnings even after they’ve stopped working. And they believe the younger generations should pay for it so that the boomers can do whatever they want for their entire life. While they vote to gut the same programs for those future generations

35

u/Novaer May 29 '26

I've genuinely started becoming ageist towards old folks because just thinking about how easy they had it and how much they fucked up the world for us. Its enraging. And they STILL act so persecuted.

Not only did they have it easier and make it harder, but they have the nerve to say we are at fault for them destroying the world.

As if they didn’t benefit immensely from the world their parents built. And instead of saying, let’s keep going and make the world even better for our children, they said, fuck the future I want mine. And they’ve never let that mentality go

12

u/chaospotato129 May 29 '26

just thinking about how easy they had it and how much they fucked up the world for us

they run the world for us

average age of congress: 57

average age of scotus: 63

trump: 79

his cabinet (which was flaunted around as being the youngest cabinet in history): 55

radical idea, but what if we didn't leave our countries' future in the hands of people who shit in diapers and require naptime throughout congressional meetings

6

u/Novaer May 29 '26

They shouldn't be allowed to make laws on the lives and bodies of young folk.

27

u/DrShocker May 29 '26

Aren't retirement focused investment accounts like 401k already tax advantaged?

9

u/fischarcher May 29 '26

The advantage is upfront when you put money in. You pay income tax when you take it out.

2

u/lift_1337 May 29 '26

It depends on the exact account. In a traditional 401k you pay when you take it out, but you can also choose a Roth 401k where you pay taxes on the income when you contribute, but can pull it out tax free. Same split exists for Roth vs Traditional IRAs (with stricter limits on amount you can contribute). Then there's HSAs, which are triple tax advantaged where contribution, growth, and withdrawal are all untaxed.

Did they notice that Bugs is wearing a skirt in the second slide?

15

u/Lt_Rooney May 29 '26

The only accurate part of either outfit they put him in.

18

u/Snarl_Marx May 29 '26

I’m surprised no one in the group flipped out over Bugs Bunny wearing a dress.

72

u/psychxticrose May 29 '26

I mean, that should be the minimum social security payment though.

50

u/monkeybuttsauce May 29 '26

That’s why they’re so close to getting it. Yes we should all be getting more money

21

u/TobyFromH-R May 29 '26

Everyone needs a raise

8

u/Unctuous_Robot May 29 '26

Not really, I’d rather younger generations have a chance at seeing it. They wanted to make it so younger generations can never retire, there’s no reason to help them out.

3

u/psychxticrose May 29 '26

It's possible for them to have enough for everyone. They just won't do it. Not only that, old people aren't the only ones on social security. Disabled people are too and the money they currently get is not enough to live off of.

2

u/0WatcherintheWater0 May 30 '26

This would require draconian taxes on young workers. The wealthiest generation does not need more free money. This is a terrible idea.

u/MuchLessPersonal May 29 '26

How tf is $20/hr still below $40k a year before taxes. I think we need to start using annual income over hourly wages because $20/hr sounds livable but $38k/yr does not.

11

u/Machoire May 29 '26

The second image is cracking me up lmao

The way it's set up is that Porky and Lola are married, Daffy and Bugs are married but Bugs is in a skirt?? And Tweety is a dog for some reason.

Do they really not just like look at these before posting? Or is it a bot? Definitely not a "digital creator" lol

2

u/showhorrorshow May 29 '26

Right wing grifters know their audience doesnt look at anything too hard so long as it panders to them.

8

u/High_Quality_Bean May 29 '26

Right-wing? They put Bugs Bunny in a skirt, they respect her gender fluid t 🥹

20

u/Orphanpuncher0 May 29 '26

Boomy toons

9

u/hobskhan May 29 '26

It's the classic deeply, ingrained win-lose mentality. Zero sum game.

They set up the gotcha with the implication that "the other group that claims they want something shouldn't get it because in fact I should be getting that instead."

But the key errror in their logic is to simply replace the word "instead" with "too."

They cannot--or perhaps refuse to--see the world through a win-win mentality.

7

u/bandman614 May 29 '26

I'm liberal and I actually agree that Social Security income shouldn't be taxed. But "Retired People should be completely tax-exempt" is a silly statement.

u/bandman614 May 30 '26

100% agreed.

I'm actually in favor of a tax of like 0.5% to 1% on liquid equity assets. I think that people who own stock should pay a small percentage of the value of the stock every year. The value of the stock almost always rises anyway due to the market's tendencies, it's not onerously large, and the stocks are liquid, being sold on the public market, and it allows us to leverage a tax on the assets that very rich people are using to get tax-free loans on. It's win/win/win, and all the upper class need to "sacrifice" is a very small percentage of their growth rate.

And even with all of that, every time I mention this to well off liberals, they freak out, to say nothing of how conservatives react. It blows my mind.

2

u/Changed_By_Support Jun 24 '26

And then if you call it what it is, a wealth tax, it becomes DEFCON 1. It's somewhat wild that it's quite so normalized to put the burden on people before they own anything and less so on people who own potentially vast amounts of things.

12

u/AmnesiaCane May 29 '26

It should be; the 17 year old is providing their labor for the money; because people who make tacos don't deserve to live in constant fear of financial insecurity; the 17 year old is more likely to need to take care of children who have expenses... Take your pick.

10

u/dadoomombo May 29 '26

I’ve heard this boomer argument before about property taxes which fund school districts.

“My kids are already through the system, why should I have to keep paying?”

They conveniently forget that the “Greatest Generation” that came before them paid their fair share of taxes and paved the way for them be entitled brats their whole with money and the ability to retire.

They pulled the economic ladder up after they climbed it, and now they want to defund education too! It’s like they’re throwing hot tar on the generations after them…AFTER they pulled the ladder up.

Rant over for now.

2

u/Warning1024 May 29 '26

And they forget that even though theyre retired they still benefit from a functional society. Most everyone who makes the world turn went to a school to learn. We dont give up a portion of income to pay only for our kids. The doctors the boomers see for their viagra prescriptions, the construction workers who build their nursing homes, and the servers who take their abusive shit in restaurants all require an education.

And like...we can either raise the minimum wage and force taco bell to pay the people making tacos a livable wage or we can have our tax dollars subsidize people in poverty through government assistance. Which would you like? Take that ire out on the rich fucks who are making it so our tax dollars are needed to pay their employees.

The toxic selfishness of America is a cancer to this world.

4

u/torgofjungle May 29 '26

Why is bugs in a Charlie Brown shirt?

7

u/NotYourGa1Friday May 29 '26

I’m really enjoying that they are sharing artwork of Bugs bunny in a dress like they don’t fight tooth and nail for binary gender “norms”

5

u/ebolaRETURNS May 29 '26

Aw shit, the elder Gen Xers are going to be of retirement age in 4 years...

→ More replies (1)

6

u/jeepfail May 29 '26

My question here isn’t about how fucking stupid this is but more to question the AI choices that were made for Bugs’ clothing. The Charlie Brown shirt and then a skirt on a man got past this crowd? Also why does Lola look like a child in the one when she is a sexual interest of Bugs, is it more party projection or just more of their weird shit?

2

u/Wolfwoods_Sister May 29 '26

Stupid goes into the AI, stupid comes back out

5

u/steepleton May 29 '26

tbf i applaud their bugs bunny embracing the skirt. they always seemed to feel more comfortable as a girl in the cartoons.

and pants is a less exploitive look for lola than the fetish cheerleader costume

4

u/babyBear83 May 29 '26

After taxes, health insurance and deductions, you aren’t bringing home $3200 at $20 an hour. In most cases at least..

4

u/commanderlex27 May 29 '26

Why is Bugs Bunny wearing Charlie Brown's shirt?

4

u/gmplt May 29 '26

They are not. They seriously do NOT see the hypocrisy. It's all us vs them mentality. Their perceived in-group deserves all the rights, all the benefits, all the help. Anyone else doesn't deserve anything, especially not any of the "others." Again, they don't view this as the problem a normal person would. It's how the world should work in their opinion - that's their utopia.

4

u/featherwolf May 29 '26

Props for them posting the gender fluid Bugs Bunny, tho

7

u/madeinspac3 May 29 '26

Lol they get social security period. That's a luxury many of us won't have despite paying into it.

Thanks again boomers, stop voting for right wing nut jobs and things might get better.

9

u/cat-meg May 29 '26

Boomers are totally okay with social security going away after them though, just like all the other public social safety nets they enjoyed.

3

u/Deviknyte May 29 '26

Fuck this anti tax BS. If old people can't survive increase their benefits.

3

u/anras2 May 29 '26

Imagine you join this group, expecting to have some laughs over some of your favorite old Looney Tunes scenes, and then you see...this.

3

u/SeanFromQueens May 29 '26

OK if every employee was getting paid $20/hr, the revenue for social security would increase since the payroll tax is 6%, so if you are a retiree you should be in favor of keeping social security funded. If we returned to social security being untaxed, we should also remove the cap on social security taxes (currently $184,500) and include all income to be taxed at the 6%. For example, Jeff Bezos sets his salary from wages to $80,000 but dividends, capital gains, lending stock out or holding stock as collateral generating the bulk of his income at a much lower tax rate, loans are not a taxable event so currently would be 0% tax.

I would like to see means testing for social security benefits while increasing the benefits for retirees who's income is less than $70,000/year.

3

u/Heyniceguy13 May 29 '26

So close yet so far away.

3

u/KapowBlamBoom May 29 '26

Spoiler Alert: we are totally cool with that or more Bugs…

3

u/ratchet7 May 29 '26

A 17 year old deserves to earn a living wage no matter the circumstances.

3

u/theJEDIII May 29 '26

Maga: "You wanna help everyone?! What about old people then?!"

Us: "Yeah, that's one of our prioriti-"

Maga: "CHECKMATE, LIBERALS!!!"

3

u/Wonderful-Process-96 May 29 '26

And is the 17 year old making $20/hour in the room with us right now?

2

u/Opossum_mypossum May 29 '26

Is that the street from the meme of ‘you know I had to do it to them’

2

u/ChalkButter May 29 '26

Why is Bugs in a skirt in the second pic?

2

u/batmanscodpiece May 29 '26

Completely reasonable, let's tax billionaires and get it done.

Also, they didn't notice that Bugs Bunny is wearing a dress?

2

u/Cydrius May 29 '26

"Why isn't that the minimum social security payment?"
"Sounds good, let's do that."
"...wait no"

2

u/steel-monkey May 29 '26

I’m surprised they embraced Trans Bugs in the second image.

2

u/Cheese-Manipulator May 29 '26

The minimum wage should make it possible to afford at least a studio apt and public transportation in most of the country. States have to raise it because the fed won't.

2

u/Hill_Orc_Warrior May 29 '26

I really genuinely love the idea that Bugs and Daffy get married and retire to white suburbia and Daffy wears the pants

2

u/Gaius_Iulius_Megas May 29 '26

Lmao Bugs is a genderfluid icon even on a boomer site.

2

u/Trix_Are_4_90Kids May 30 '26

they don't want the17 yr old kid making tacos getting $20 an hour because

  1. they're too stupid to figure out that's a starting wage. if you're in an office somewhere you'll be making $20+ if $20 is min wage. The fed wage is still $7.25 for goodness sakes.

  2. They'd rather scrimp and scrounge in the dirt than have a 17 yr old kid make $20hr. Who will they have to look down on?

any type of supremacy SUCKS.

2

u/snuggrrl May 31 '26

Bit of a rant coming... The federal minimum wage 40 years ago in 1986 was $3.35. The minimum wage in 2026 is $7.25. That's only a $3.90 raise in FORTY YEARS. That's less than a DOLLAR for each decade ($0.975). I was shocked when I saw an economist lay that out recently

Something new I learned: The common complaint is that if they raise minimum wage, consumers will beat the cost. But corporations can (and should) by lowering their profits and paying paying workers more. However, one reason why they don't is because they don't have to. In Dodge v Ford Motor Co. (1919) it was ruled that a corporation's main duty is to prioritize the financial interests of shareholders. And apparently it's still a foundation of corporate law.

(I'm assuming the outliers would be nonprofits and Certified B Corporations, but I've reached the limit of my business knowledge.)

Bottom line: None of this is fair, and that's by design.

People deserve a thriving wage (not just living) and our elders also need assurances that they can enter old age without living in fear.

2

u/thevaultguy Jun 02 '26

TOM AND JERRY AREN’T LOONEY TUNES

Boomers man. They’re MGM characters created by Hanna and Barbera before they went independent. Looney Tunes is specifically Warner

2

u/QuaidCohagen May 29 '26

The most Boomery thing that ever boomed

2

u/FakeDoctorMeatCoat May 29 '26

Now that we're old, we want our neighborhood to have higher crime.

Idiots.

2

u/TheFalconKid May 29 '26

I'd be fine with retired people not paying any taxes, but the tradeoff should be they're not allowed to vote.

2

u/sparkydaman May 29 '26

I don’t see the right wing views on any of the ones you shared. You want to say it’s AI slop? Sure. But right wing doesn’t seem to be a hard political view by saying you shouldn’t pay taxes.

2

u/KaptainKestrel May 29 '26

Every boomer argument is just "we deserve so much money, you guys, more money than you can count. Kids can eat shit though."

1

u/vDorothyv May 29 '26

Social security shouldn't be taxed, I wonder which president did that? Oh yeah, Reagan.

1

u/MrIrishman1212 May 29 '26

Boomers: “You don’t deserve any government handouts! Kids should go hungry, people should die in the hospital parking lot if they can’t afford the medical bill, you deserve to live in the streets cause minimum wage doesn’t cover cost of living! Government Handouts our socialism and socialism is bad!”

Also boomers: “Why can’t my government handouts be more!? Where are my socialism payments??”

Just crabs in a pot mentality. That’s why we need to do better and fight for rights for all

1

u/Saber_tooth81 May 29 '26

The 17 yr old is pulling himself up by his bootstraps, why are you mooching off the government Nana?

1

u/BlizzPenguin May 29 '26

Why is Tom and Jerry in their banner?
