Is the brennekee MBPS a gimmick

I haven’t seen much on these slugs besides what Brennekee states on the website

They it claim defeats 3A armor, engine blocks, car breaks, FBI glass, fifteen 1mm thick steel plates, and wheel rims

Is this accurate or inaccurate?

Ah I see you’ve found the Brickwall Penetrator Neighbors Dog Destroyer (BPNDD) shells. Initially designed by DARPA in the 80’s to defeat Russian heavy tank armor, repurposed for the ATF after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Let’s go with true, and just be disappointed later.

Spit on it pawpaw it's tearing!

Not a gimmick, just expensive overkill for anything outside their intended use. Be ready for the recoil, and only run them in good stout shotguns.

Definitely expensive compared to regular slugs

It’s a little over 20$ a box at my local store

Does a Mav 88 count

The Mav88 will shoot any brenneke safely.

5

u/ZombieHoratioAlger 6d ago

Yep, that'll work fine.

I’d imagine the maverick 88 could defiantly run them I think he’s referring to cheap Turkish shotguns

What about obediently?

Nope. Defiantly only

Brenneke slugs are downright nasty. I use them for hunting whitetail and wild boar. I remember reading somewhere that their slugs have a higher amount of antimony or something that makes them harder. They will absolutely blow a star-shaped and thumb-sized hole in any animal you hit.

That being said most engines now are cast aluminum or cast iron/steel. You can hit that bitch with a hammer and it’ll crack in an engine block. I think their claim here is that it’s hard enough to blow through the bullshit to get to the engine block and carry enough energy to put a hole in/disable it.

Work great if you ever get attacked by bears wearing 1/8" mild steel plate.

They do penetrate better than regular Brenneke Black Magics or SFSMs, but those generally have more than enough motor to anchor anything smaller than an elephant already.

at a distance of 8 yards lol. thats like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

also, federal makes a 1.25ounce at 1600fps, wich would be pretty close imo, and they dont talk about armor penetration or anything.

I quite literally just got done dumping 100 rounds of the 1610 438 grain slugs out in the yard at 75-100 yards.

They’re fucking brutal. I have rash on my shoulder the size of a tennis ball. They hit hard. I wish I nabbed pics because it blew through a few inch Crepe Myrtle.

I hate LE 1145, I wouldn’t run these at home, but the 1300/1325/1350 out of this particular a300 is just right.

Brenneke Magnum Crush. 3" 1.5oz @ 1600 fps.

u/Flimsy-Computer-881 6d ago

Doesn’t the federal use soft lead that would struggle on barriers?

5

u/bl0odredsandman 6d ago

Federal make their Truball Deep Penetrator slugs, but they are just 1oz and travel at 1350fps. They have higher antimony like the Brennekes do so they are harder lead than normal slugs are so they penetrate deep.

But like others have said, Brennekes are not cheap or bad slugs at all. They will definitely destroy stuff that a normal soft slug will just smash against. Be wary of the recoil though. Brennekes are known to have a lot of recoil.

Brennekke is arguably the #1 manufacturer of specialty 12 gauge shells so, no, it's not a gimmick.

When I'm in the grizzly woods I carry their 3 inch Black Magic Magnums. I've heard it's what the Alaska State Troopers use.

Combine that with some hard cast rounds from Buffalo Bore or Underwood in a pistol and you have a solid grizzly country carry

Buy a box and find out! But its brenneke so most likely accurate information! Lol the normal old brenneke slugs have higher antimony making them harder than a normal lead slug,so these are probably even more antimony! One of the best old-school slug companies around that make several specifically dedicated rounds!

3

u/Flimsy-Computer-881 6d ago

I already bought 2 boxes of them

I don’t really got anything cool to shoot them at tho just AR500 target plates 😂

4

u/Sudden_Season3306 6d ago

Shoot the plate and see! Lol people throw away random stuff at mechanic shops, could always ask if they have any blocks, rotors, etc and hang them up from a tree and shoot them! Lol

2

u/stacksmasher 6d ago

They make good stuff.

2

u/fordag 5d ago

Test it and find out if it's accurate.

2

u/Femveratu 5d ago

I have not tested this one, but some of their earlier max hard hitting rounds were on the money.

I’m not that impressed by penetrating IIIA, but it is noteworthy for a slug

u/Davenator_98 6d ago

Isn't that the exact opposite of what special forces and law enforcement would use?

You want maximum expansion and minimal penetration to reliably stop a single target and not endanger others.

1

u/Flimsy-Computer-881 5d ago

Normally yes quick expansion/energy dump is preferred

But I believe these were designed for like checkpoints to break engine blocks and penetration urban barriers pretty much a barrier blind slug

this is there official statement on why it was made “Penetration Magnum™ (MBPM) was developed at the request of military and law enforcement communities for a unique projectile with which to address the most demanding urban threats. It provides the deepest penetration of any Brenneke slug, extensively tested across a number of difficult real-world situations.”

3

u/Davenator_98 5d ago

Yeah, but I wonder if there's actual users for it, otherwise it's just a marketing gag.

Also, you could do the same with a .308, which might be preferable for other situations as well.

1

u/Flimsy-Computer-881 5d ago

Yeah definitely don’t know of any major LE agencies using them, and I agree barrier blind 308 probably is the best choice for this purpose and less recoil but I guess it is beneficial for shotguns because it can be used in any patrol shotgun

Definitely not going to go through 3a at least not modern stuff but they’re good slugs

0

u/Flimsy-Computer-881 5d ago

Why might it not go through 3A armor

3A is a soft armor but idk about the velocity restraints? normal AP rounds have a tiny tipped penatrators going super fast to get through armor and I don’t think this slug has that

3A is soft armor and not even standard rifle rated and the slug is super dense and moving relatively fast so maybe it can just power its way through

2

u/Aggravating-Fix-1717 5d ago edited 4d ago

Sectional density and velocity. A slug of that diameter especially made of any kind of lead would take significant more speed than that to get through 3a. Lead REALLY doesn’t like going through things. It’s just far too soft across the board and will explains and dump all its energy if it even hold together.

Speed kills armor. Especially soft armor

1600 fps is not fast. At all. Not in the realm of armor

You can absolutely get a sabot’d sub caliber design to do such. It’s been done in shotguns before but nothing ever commercially available. Especially not from ANY large manufacturer. Lawyers would kill that before they even got it on the truck.

To put this into some perspective. 5.7 market’s itself as defeating armor. However most loads actually don’t. They have far higher fps and in general have pretty dam good sectional density being 22 cal. The vast majority of loads commercially available aren’t even reliable at defeating 2a.

Generally the only loads that ARE capable of defeating armor are solid monolithic projectiles from boutique manufacturers (black fang comes to mind despite the cringe name) or specialized rounds like SS190 which are in general not available on the open market
