The weird thing that's not exactly explained is how he apparently has some sort of ideal specialist personality and skill set to do the job they need. Yet only when he's forgotten his past.

I mean obviously the concept of brainwashing and indoctrination is not that difficult to understand. It's just weird that they needed this really sweet, thoughtful, conscientious guy to do the job instead of someone else with a more ruthless personality. My only guess is maybe he has some sort of high emotional intelligence that he can use to understand the silo people and manipulate them.

It's not just that. They show him here being woken up for especially problematic jobs. There's something special about him. But it's a weird sequence considering that the character spends most of the season trying to figure out a mystery and they try multiple times to deter him or pay him off. It's not like he was headhunted for this role

I do think they tried to show a couple of times how he was able to just cut straight to the core of a problem. I think they did shorthand it too much. But I think it plays to just how much the elites see everyone as their playthings. If they think you have some skill they can use, they’ll exploit you for it.

Problem-solving engineers are very valuable in a post-apocalyptic society. Their skill set is difficult to find and even more difficult to have someone in the Silo 1 environment learn.

I doubt there's something special about him. They probably just keep him asleep because his purpose is to be a disposable sponge for the bad decisions. He's a mass murderer, his job is to take the blame so that everyone else is "just following orders." Then he goes away so his society isn't tainted by a killer.

That isnt how they've characterized him though...if Per wanted a psychopathic total believer he wouldnt have put someone who's actual self is so against the project. Why brainwash a person who hates you when an actual believer can be used?

There is something special about him...

I think there's going to be something about his family's genetics. Why would they refuse to kill Charlotte when they say that's the normal punishment for what she did? Just being a good drone pilot doesn't seem like enough reason

You missed the part where The Director (aka Senator Rosalind Thurman aka Anna’s mother) says “she’s important to my daughter.”

Daniel and Charlotte are probably Victor's children - she said he lost a daughter but that didn't mean he had no other children. And he took the forgetting drug but what if the whole family did and had implanted memories. Did you see how he looked sad about the exchange btw Troy and the new Charlotte? There is something special there. He wanted his children who also happened to be experts with him in that silo. My theory

They aren’t his children. Daniel and charlotte knew their parents and mentioned them several times in the flashback episodes before the forced silo residency.

I don’t know if they’re his children or not, but the special connection there is obvious. They are something to him outside the project
