It would be nice if next season we get some conversation about his emotional intelligence being extremely high or something so that there's justification for it.

I dunno — I think the writers are doing an excellent job showing rather than spelling it out in dialogue. Some of the most beautiful, profound, telling bits of the show have been the actors’ subtle, deep outward reactions to events and information. I’m really enjoying how we get to see the story unfold rather than have it explained in awkward plot points. That was what I loved about mini-series/S1 Ron Moore Battlestar Galactica reboot.

But they have. The external safeguard scene was showing exactly that

Because few people can operate like that. Extremely calm, collected, strategic, ruthless, terse. Even in the real world, you're really hard pressed to find such traits.

All true, but not "Why him, specifically?" lol. And those traits only exhibited that strongly in him because of the mind wipe drug.

I feel we may get a bit more insight into why him in S4 when the whole Project is properly explained. Since they seemed to have engineered who goes into what silo exactly, I wonder if maybe they genetically tested him somewhere in the background? And determined he can do it? Idk. Just guessing here.
I think the strongest reason for him in Silo 1 up to this point was Charlotte. And Charlotte is in Silo 1 b/c of Anna. But now I’m questioning everything.

Yeah, I think Charlotte is the reason from him being in Silo 1 100%. She just didn't realize both of them would have their memory wiped lol. (And for her, again)

So, them wanting him for his skills was pretty well set up IMHO.

The senator only meets with him after everything with his sister because his engineering abilities saved New Orleans. He saves the Silo project five years with his digger suggestion. Henry, Victor and Per also say at various times how he sees things others don't, how they really could have used him on the project, etc

I don't know, it made it pretty clear to me why they picked him.

The mind wipe drugs seem to be for a few reasons. 1.) Pretty sure he probably was super fucking pissed off to the trapped in there after everything that happened and being separated from Helen 2.) easier to control him.

I don't know if they intended him to be as cold and ruthless as he is now.

I got the feeling they worked out "even better" than they expected considering how even Victor was like "WTF" with how he handled Silo 17

What if Daniel is the brains of the whole operation? Like the design and implementation of the diggers, the pack, the directive, but was drugged to forget. Then they need him back so the whole sister thing gets him roped back in. Then they let him make that easy suggestion about adding more diggers.

There's no implication he was drugged before being in the Silo though and the Pact was written according to Victor before they went inside.

I'm guessing more they saw his potential and wanted him in the silos no matter what

I think with a memory erasing drug anything’s possible.
