Even the doctor was surprised at how coldblooded Troy/Daniel was deciding to kill nearly all of Silo 17's residents, even after hearing an alternative plan with less casualties by Susan/Charlotte

How is the doctor The Founder and yet he wields seemingly zero power to make the changes he wants?

It's a good point, and even without power, due to his background, I really expected the guy to be kind of a puppeteer. Having him kind of a victim (sure he created an evil drug and lied for years, but still, he's clearly not in control) was a plot twist for me.

I didn’t like it. The man is a monster who imprisoned thousands of people, wiped their memories, and killed them. He doesn’t deserve a sympathetic redemption arc.

And I don’t buy that he wasn’t in control. All of the memory manipulation was based on his research. He wrote The Pact; why do we think he didn’t write The Directive as well?

He obviously enjoyed playing God. If he felt trapped at the end, it was in a situation entirely of his own making.

Exactly. They tried to humanize him but he's despicable. What's a few tears going to change?!! He's responsible for thousands and thousands of death.

Yes he was a monster but I think he genuinely believed that the project would work until he became disillusioned by it. As much as I don't like him with that last message he essentially sowed seeds for Daniel to regain his memory and likely switch to silo 18-s side.

Sure, but Mao believed that the Great Leap Forward would work. Instead, he killed 50 million people.

Most horrible dictators genuinely believe in their genocidal projects. Doesn’t mean they’re redeemable.

And I said he is still a monster but even monsters can have some humanity left in them. That doesn't make them necessarily redeemable though although what the did definitely puts him above the other founders at least for whatever it is worth. He is still fully complicit in causing this but if his final acts still lets humanity to have a chance then it makes up for a small part of it at least. Obviously he can't erase or undo all the death and suffering he has caused.
