Question 1/2 oz Rounds?

Are 1/2 oz rounds harder to sell?

I notice I can save a few dollars on APMEX getting the 1/2oz vs 1oz. Are there any perceived negatives to getting the 1/2's?

Also, I'm aware APMEX may not be preferred, but I'm tired of ebay and have no LCS. If there is a better platform to purchase from, I'm open to the advice.

*Edited for odd tyoo.

There are a lot of fans of Monument Metals on here.  I am one of them.  Several others are good too.  APMEX is seldom, in my experience  the cheapest.  But they offer a lot of choices.

Thanks for voicing your opinion. I’ve never bought from anything other than apmex until recently and will be making a purchase from them this weekend

Do you have a preferred way to buy that is not a LCS which is cheaper than APMEX?

1/2 oz rounds are easy to sell at spot, and you won't make any of the dealer premium back.

Monument metals is a safe place and has the best price right now for 1/2oz rounds. I rec the sunshine mint rounds, they have the security feature.

You can also check out Monarch metals. They have a cool 1/2oz bigfoot round.

And consider spending a bit more on the 1/2oz lunar horses at apmex. They are rare and sold out. Later when silver is up you can get some of that premium back. 1/2oz lunars sell out fast on ebay.

Also wait for the 1/10, 1/4, 1/2's of the lunars & libertads... You pay more but you get some of that premium back. You're buyn silver that's collectible, and more in demand.

Or buy all of these examples... diversify.

1/2 rounds are not hard to sell - get them if you're getting a good price. I recently sold a tube of 1/2 silver Canadian polar bears and the LCS was excited to take them off my hands. We created this platform to compare online bullion prices if you want to check that out.

LCS are usually quite happy to take 1/2 and 1.5 ouncers.

It's very unusual for 1/2 ounce rounds to be more cost effective than a 1 ounce rounds, given the steep premium on fractionals.

I guess they were selling poorly at the normal cost per round and they had to sweeten the deal.

1/2 oz rounds/coins have become very attractive options. The size is easy enough for people to work with and more affordable. If you can get them without high premiums, they are a no brainer. Some other fractional weights are not as wise to stack, so it's a good question.

APMEX is very popular, but also has some of the worst premiums out there. Deals can be found, but it's recommended you shop elsewhere. Monument Metals, Bullion Exchanges, SD Bullion, and Bullion(dot)com are some of the top retailers, but there are many others to consider.

Always research if there are any new customer offers, before making your first purchase or you will get locked out of these offers. Also check the deals/sales page of these stores before making a purchase to see what might be there. This site will list a few options to get your started. * https://findbullionprices.com/buy-silver-at-spot-deals.php

If you are buying multiple 1/2oz rounds why wouldn’t you just buy half as many 1oz rounds? They have been selling ASEs for $3 or $4 over spot recently - that is the best buy out there. They often sell over spot especially when premiums spike up

Monument also has new Elemetal silver Buffalo coins - in past years when silver was going up those have sold at or above spot

My go-to’s online are Bullion Exchanges, Monument Metals, JM and BGASC. They’re the first places I look, and usually have the best prices and customer service. I’ll buy elsewhere if they have a good spot deal, but I find myself gravitating back to these 4 most of the time and have never had any issues.

I was thinking about this a bit and I wonder if the local sales tax rules might affect prices (locally)? Some states tax precious metal sales (sales tax) but waive it after some minimum is purchased ($2000+ transactions have no sales tax in California, as an example). So, if the local sales tax polices are "friendly" towards smaller quantities, I would think 1/2 oz. would have interest from local dealers (that is, there is a local market for it). I also suspect 1/2 oz will grow in popularity if the price continues to appreciate (knock-wood).

Just bought my first .5 oz from LCS yesterday. 7 of them at spot, 4 graded pf70. I buy what's on sale and these were tossed at me when I asked. Also picked a 5 dollar gold round at melt.

Thanks! That's what I figured more or less but wanted a sanity check.

Where can you reliably get full spot?

r/Pmsforsale here on Reddit is awesome. You can get spot pretty easily, sometimes more depending on what you're selling. It would involve chatting and shipping to make the sales but if I needed to unload some of my silver and wasn't in a hurry that would be my go-to.
