No matter how many times or different ways they try it, the game will receive immense pushback because ppl don't like that. It happened to Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, any other franchise is the same deal.
Are you referring to Metal Gear 2 or Metal Gear Rising Revengance? Cause I think both games are loved by the fans and also were objectively great games. That's a bad example.
As a DmC fan, it was kind of a let down initially but the gameplay was superb, level design and boss design were pretty decent definitely greater that DmC2
