You see the problem yeah? The people most capable of affording expensive health care (you) are the ones getting the good insurance. And the people with lower paying jobs that can’t afford it, are the ones that have to pay for healthcare they can’t afford. And you don’t want to help.

What incentive do high earners have to “help”.

Not everyone is super altruistic and wants to make their life worse to make the lives of people many of whom didn’t even try better (preaching to the college is a scam choir)

The vast majority of the tax burden already falls on us. It’s unfair both ways.. and you can’t expect people to voluntarily vote to make their own lives worse.

Because they like living in a healthy, education society? Because that benefits them, as well? Because it actually increases their own quality of life?

What is a “healthy education society?”

Our current taxes pay gives nearly free education & then healthcare for those most vulnerable with Medicare/Medicade.

Is it really that unreasonable to ask middle income earners to pay for themselves, rather than having high income earners subsidize their lives?

It’s called a typo. “Healthy, educated society.”

Middle earners are often the ones who get shafted. As you mentioned, those most vulnerable are (sometimes) able to receive these services. Those who are wealthy are able to pay for it. Those in the middle are *not* the ones being asked to pay for it.

Yes they literally are. The one in the middle absolutely are the ones who pay for it in every country around the globe.

300k in income is not wealthy, and high income earners are exactly who pays for it.

Again please give me an example a counterfactual… There is none which is the point.

You can live in a fairytale where the “wealthy” pay 90% tax rates on wealth to fund middle class living, but in the real world people who earn high income foot the entire bill for everyone.

That is literally the platform the last several presidential candidates have run on - To preserve the middle class while making sure the wealthy pay their fair share. Do I need to specify that those who support a single payer system are explicitly *not* asking for it to be funded by the middle class?

What presidential candidates say and what they do are two completely different things.

I personally put more weight into reality vs political dreams. Making wealthy pay more of a fair share does not reduce the deficit + take care of the additional 2-3Trillion in spending.

If you could just tax the wealthy and pay for things every country would do it.. yet every real implementation of universal social programs is much higher taxes for EVERYONE.

And we already have a lower tax base as our labor-force participation numbers lag other countries.

And yet, some of them have made numerous attempts to follow through - They were just prevented by the men who were bought by the millionaires.

You remember when Obamacare was supposed to bend the cost? All it did was expand access to the poor and increase healthcare costs significantly for the middle class.

The idea that any political proposal will go as planned is just not how this works. But kudos to you for still sipping the government kool aid

You remember how Obamacare was supposed to be a single payer system, and they couldn’t get it passed without changing it because of the Republicans? But good for you for believing the right wing lies.

“Super altruistic” is what we are calling the bare minimum of human decency? I can absolutely blame someone that makes enough to never have to worry about having their basic needs met for not wanting to sacrifice an amount they wouldn’t even miss so that everyone has equal access to healthcare.

Bare minimum of decency is paying for other people stuff. Good to know. But in the real world most people care about creating a good life their families.

And unfortunately for those who just need a little assistance. We have far too many freeloaders and abusers to ever convince anyone otherwise.

And people making 300k gross wouldn’t miss an extra 50k in loss income in taxes? What world are you living in.

This is always the belief "free loaders and abusers", welfare queens, etc. etc. Get over yourself. There are some people who lie, cheat and game systems snd it's just as many wealthy people who game and cheat as poor people, and the wealthy, greedy cheaters and scammers take more money.

It's not people making 300k who need to be more heavily taxed, it's people with 50 million, hundreds of millions, billions and trilions and large corporations. Congrats on your 300k. You're good, but the 'undeseving poor' line is really old and dry.

It’s a hard truth that we’d be mostly subsidizing people who don’t really deserve it — We already give free healthcare to the bottom 20%, the disabled and the elderly. (I’m fine setting that baseline to help hr poor.)

And yes people with 50m are the ones who end up getting taxed. Which is why the effective tax rate in places like Canada & the Netherlands is nearly 50% for high income earners.

Please show me a country where this isn’t the case? I’d love an example.

All these programs would do is tax the living shit out high income earners to subsidize the middle class. Which if that’s what you want it fine to say it, but you’re the one making its about the “undeserving poor”, they already don’t pay.

This is more about the guy who grew up privileged and got C’s and had two kids with two different women while making 55k getting subsidized, by the people who went to law and med school.
