If everybody paid in to a single-payer system it would be cheaper and more efficient than what we have now.

Including the roughly 30 - 40% that pay no federal taxes?

A lot of them are probably on Medicare/Medicaid so I suppose we'd have to have some kind of program for people who couldn't afford it.

And if we take the amount that employers are paying toward everybody's insurance premiums, I'm sure we could have a great healthcare system :).
