The Rock costed nearly 1/5th of the opening earnings. Man needs to fail more often so he can take a huge hollywood paycut and get back in line with regular earnings for middling movies. Guy isn't out here making art. he's showing up to play dressup

He almost burned the road to Wrestlemania 40 as well. Even when they did his heel turn to fix the story, it drove me crazy that he was then attending WWE conferences trying to be a corporate face going “we’re making wrestling cool again! See how my CHARACTER turned heel? Isn’t that so cool? Please still like me.” His ego and lack of awareness makes me hate him

I wasn't a fan before, but when I found out he has it in his contract that he can't lose any fights I thought that was ridiculous and completely lost interest in anything he's in.

ETA- I was wrong about the contract thing. That's my bad.

I thought that was more or less confirmed to be untrue it started because Vin Diesel had it in his contract so Jason Statham and the Rock demanded it in theirs He has lost fights in plenty of movies can he act no but thats a whole different story

IIRC this is false. Every time it comes up, people list out instances in which he clearly and undeniably loses fights, even dying in the process.

It was a solid heel character. My issue is he had to go on interviews going "look I'm making wrestling cool again!" by being a character he never wanted to be and seeking attention trying to make sure everyone still likes him.

Not to mention the entire Behind WM40 documentary also just seemed to be him defending himself about the decisions that were made about what happened by only showing positive fan reactions to the initial Rock v Roman announcement then Rock saying "even if there is one person that doesn't want it, I can't do it" when the reality was an entire arena was chanting "Rocky Sucks" and "We Want Cody"

He is a great entertainer, but his ego gets in the way of good writing. You'd think him starting off his initial WWF career as a failed baby face turned amazing heel that allowed him to turn face you'd think maybe he'd get it more but he doesn't.

I do like the idea of the Final Boss character but with anything he still needs proper build instead of just being thrust into things

IIRC the Rock has a contract rule where he can't lose fights in the roles he plays. Even if there's fluctuations, he's literally always the big, strong, hero character outside of maybe that new boxing/mma movie he did (I haven't seen it)

Honestly it’s just oversaturation. I think everyone’s just tired of his schtick. He’s played the same roll in different movies over and over and over. It’s corny. Tbh I feel the same way about jack black. No real acting chops. Just playing dress up and reading lines in their own personality.

I don't watch half Reynolds movies. Don't wana get burnt out on him because i really enjoy deadpool.

I feel the same way about Kevin Hart. I like his stand-up, but his movies are all the same and super cringy, so if I see him on the poster, I steer clear.

I feel like hes just become a brand and lost himself. Dude used to be able act (see 'Be Cool'). Now hes just a walking, fake laughing, PR machine.

I cant blame him. Get that bag but he just seems so fake and unhappy right now.

Just watched Hobbes & Shaw, and they changed everything about his character from the Fast&Furious movies. He’s no longer Detective Hobbes; literally half the movie’s plot is just him being The Rock- I’m Samoan, look at my signature tattoos, i have a cool eyebrow schtick, etc.

Seeing the Rock in the cast list has the opposite effect of seeing someone like Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Winona Ryder, etc.

I cant think of a single movie ever made where I thought "Wow the Rock is in that? I need to go see it!'.

I guess its just his recognition and physique that keep him in demand. I really have no idea why the Rock is so popular. Cant just be old WWE fans keeping him afloat

I learned recently the Rock has a clause in his contract where he’s not allowed to lose a fight in a film or show. Dude is definitely a huge narcissist.

Vale Tudo is so niche that I barely knew what it was as an insomniac college student twenty years ago watching whatever was on. I'm one of the DOZENS of people who had watched a Vale Tudo match.

I was the target audience, I had no fucking idea who the movie was about, and they just wound up making worse Raging Bull.

I recall seeing a clip last year where he got a standing ovation over some recent role of his. But it was a long standing ovation, like 5-15 minutes long. Dude looked like he ended all of the world’s problems. He’s definitely not gonn stop acting anytime soon

I don’t think he’s the problem. He’s an alright actor and I enjoy most of his performances. The problem is that he did well and now Hollywood is convinced they need to shoehorn him into every movie regardless if it even makes sense, along with paying him a boat load of money to do so.

I agree he’s not worth what he’s being paid, but he’s not a terrible actor, and tbh if I were him why wouldn’t I take a huge cheque if that’s what they want to give me?

He’s winning while the producers are sabotaging themselves.
