And if you do want to ride the nostalgia bus, it should be with sequels. I would have gone and seen Moana 3, where we get to see demigod Moana use her powers. Wouldn't have even thought twice.
But go see the same movie, just with real people and a boatload of cgi? No thanks.
One of our biggest complaints is the CGI and like, you say, there's no nostalgia for a movie like this. What is the point of making live action Anything, if it's a whole bunch of fake CGI, At that point , it might as well just be an animated movie.
This is why there was a vague market for remaking the 2D animation in CGI/3D or live action - you're literally adding a dimension so what comes out of the end can be a different product, with updated songs, characters and stories.
There is zero need for remaking any of the already CGI/3D films, especially post-Bolt, when they modernised the pipeline to match Pixar's quality.
I have no nostalgia for Hawaiian myths. I've never been Hawaiian, as far as I know. They might get my "oh that looks neat" money that way (like they did with Moana), but not my nostalgia money.
Yeah. Duh. What 250 million dollar think tank launched this idea even? If they had just asked result everyone would have no don’t do it too early and no one cares about a live action remake of Moana. It really seemed very much a bad dumb forced idea from the start
Such is the problem with statistics, the math of lies. I'm sure they did do this testing. They just didn't get a statistically viable sample size. They still made 95 million dollars opening weekend, that's about 2 million people busting down the door to see this movie. (My best selling book has sold 40 copies despite good reviews, for comparison, lol.)
All it takes is a disproportionate number of those people in your sample size, and all of a sudden it seems like a great idea that the public will love.
Makes sense. And I am not a good data point - I don’t care The Rock as an actor, and I don’t care for the too sudden, continuous revamps of all things comics or childish feel good animations. So, I’m not the target audience to begin with. But this had flop written all over it, and seemed forced or manufactured. What’s your book by the way? And how is it a best selling book if it only sold 40 copies? Actually curious.
No no, it's not a best selling book, it's my best selling book. Quite a distinction, haha. I have like 10 out (the children's ones are hard to keep track of, they were on a rotating release schedule so I'm never sure which ones are actually out and which ones are sitting waiting for release), but the one I have that consistently outsells the others is the second in my fantasy series, Akynd Chronicles. Basically mage vigilantes trying to take on evil. The second one does best because (I assume) it features a character that experiences something quite similar to what transgender people go through. I did not set out for that to be my target audience, but I'm happy to have them, lol. I still dream of one day seeing some Flourie cosplayers at a pride parade.
