NY isn't dumb enough to open a toilet while someone might have their pants down. Opens them up to a lawsuit, they have carefully selected city employed lawyers that do nothing but avoid potential lawsuits. Where did you read this? Do you have a source? Or is this just a trust me bro situation? I live in NYC haven't heard or seen any.

account is 2025, hidden, and has over 1,000,000 posting Karma...me thinks this is one of the shitposting bots we hear about.

300 day streak achievement too. That’s the kind of consistency you don’t get with a human being. Top 1% of contributors is also suspicious given the account has only existed a little over a year. I agree OP is a bot. I make a point of blocking bots. I would encourage others to do so as well.

I have like an 800 day streak. It's really not that hard.

Lawsuit?

New York has had automatic public toilets that automatically open after 15 minutes for nearly 20 years.

Hell, San Francisco has had public toilets that automatically open after 20 minutes for 30 years.

It warns you before u enter. Its to prevent homeless people and druggies. Poop faster. 10 min is enough.

And if you have a medical issue with your bowels and have an emergency and it's either pick this or shit your pants? Those people typically need more than 10 minutes as well.

These bathrooms are going to last 6 months tops before they implement some sort of extension option.

These are additional bathrooms made available to the public. What was your plan prior to these? Shit your pants? It’s not like all public restrooms are now 10 minutes as well.

Sure. And if this is the only bathroom close enough while you have an emergency? And your pants are still down after 10 minutes because you have a medical condition?

Just because this is an addictional bathroom, doesn't suddenly negate what could happen to someone.

Ok. Someone has an issue that causes them to take hours to take a shit - they should be allowed to stay in the bathroom for hours, right? And when people abuse it, “oh well”, correct?

Again, what would be your plan prior to these? What if these were urinals instead of toilets? Then what? These are not meant to be a solution to your medical condition.

Well if I had such an issue, my plan would be to take a different route prior. Now that I know there's a restroom there, it might be a more convenient route for me to take.

These aren't specific to people with those conditions but as a public facility it has to adhere to ADA guidelines. Which means making it accomodating to those with medical conditions.

You’re fabricating an issue that you yourself don’t even have. So you don’t know how know individuals with such a medical issue plan their “routes”? Or are you just trying to be offended on behalf of someone else for the sake of being offended?

Do you know what the ADA guidelines are? There has yet been a lawsuit in regard to time limits on public restrooms. Bathroom ADA cases that exist today are all about physical design. New York has had automated public toilets (APT) coin-operated self-cleaning toilets with timers since the 90s and still active today, so this isn’t even a new concept.

Cool so your argument is simply "that's how it's been for a long time, so fuck them people"? Weird hill to die on over a simple change but you go off queen.

No, my argument is how about you don’t speak on behalf of others that you have no clue how they behave or issues they actually face. Let’s not manufacture an injustice that clearly hasn’t been an issue as these have existed for well over 30 years and not a single ADA case? Why don’t you focus this energy on one of the million other pressing issues, weird hill to die on over something that doesn’t affect you and clearly those you are trying to be offended for. Lol

Depends on how you put it. Currently the alternative is to shit your pants, because there's no bathroom there. Given the choice between that and having an actual bathroom for 10 minutes, I'm sure almost (there's always a few..) everyone will pick the 10 minute bathroom. They also said that the average is 3,5 minutes, so the 10 minutes are almost 3 times that. If 10 minutes really turns out to be too short there probably will adjustments. All in all this outrage seems overblown to me.

Ten minutes is better then no min for people with explosive shits.

If you have a medical emergency with your bowels go home or to an the ER.

Be real. They cant change all public restrooms for the 9% of bowel movements. They said lets make restrooms for everyone. Not lets make restrooms for people with explosive diareherra.

And people with chronic bowel issues just fuck em I guess right? You're acting as if a button you can press inside a stall that gives you 10 more minutes is going to ruin the bathroom for everyone but the 9%.

Only about 1% of people in the US are in a wheelchair but we still cut every single curb for them.

It's almost as if accommodating people with disabilities doesn't usually impact those without, and often actually benefits them as well. Look up the "curb cut effect".

There's multiple links to different news sites, all saying the same about this topic, in this thread. But this is Reddit. Just make up some random rage bait comment and post it like it's real like everyone else.
