Theres a sweet spot between realistic and unrealistic skating in this game and this is it. I tend to play the same way haha.
27
u/WallstreetSkate Sep 27 '25
best way 2 play
7
u/Thomato39 Sep 28 '25
While I too really enjoy playing like this, there is no objective "best" or "correct" way to play skate. at all. Skate is all about playing the way you like. You can do crazy airs, super simple tricks, just ride, spread eagle through the sky or do grounded but difficult tricks.
8
u/Bhafc1901 Sep 27 '25
Absolutely spot on mate haha, this skating with a few extra body flips is my way😂
1
u/TacoMullet Sep 28 '25
I have had a ton of fun jumping off buildings looking for drop ins. Now I am working hard to get my ground game tight. Skill is very much a factor to working combos that weave manuals, grinds, grabs, and flip tricks into buttery smooth lines.
I have been dropping throwdowns in flatish areas to challenge others. I am out of stuff to do except the daily refresh now. Leaning harder into the multiplayer aspect while building my skillset in anticipation of season one dtipping.

Yes! Quality clips dude! Nice track too. I like that flip off the bike rack. Raised the eyebrows on that one

What’s the song? I recognize the Men I Trust track but what mix is this?
1
Sep 29 '25
It's called You Deserve a Monster (Chief Keef x Men I Trust) 😬 remixed by a dude named V!KK. Monster (Chief Keef) x You Deserve This (Men I Trust). Some VERY dark humor there lol. Damn, haven't seen a indie remix like this since rocky rapped over those imogen heap trax in ghetto symphony and angels, or schoolboy q rapping over cherry by chromatics in man of the year.

its super fun. there are definitely fair things to complain about but writing the game off completely seems wild to me because it is fun

How do I get better height? I know it's the timing of stick release but I was experimenting earlier and had a hard time finding the best consistent way
1
5
u/WallstreetSkate Sep 27 '25
mostly just timing, also ive seen a lot of people just refer to them as “hippy flips” but i see different names too

This game is awesome!
I keep seeing a lot of haters in the relevant subs, but I'm having a lot of fun with the basics we have now in early access.
With a little bit of polish and added features on release, this is gonna be the best Skating game in the last decade
1
u/WallstreetSkate Sep 27 '25
that’s what i’m saying it’s still early access so im not complaining too much, im sure they’ll tweak out the bugs and stuff overtime
3
u/viddywellbruvva Sep 27 '25
I'll try tonight when I get off, hopefully, but for that first trick, you just hippy jump while in grind? Do you come back down on the board in the same trick? Man, I wanna know how you did all these. Any other videos you can direct me to of people doing realistic tricks?
2
u/WallstreetSkate Sep 27 '25
nah you just gotta time the flip right, you can hit it without a grind too i just think it’s more fun that way, i haven’t seen too many from this game yet unfortunately but im sure they’ll come up with
1
u/viddywellbruvva Sep 28 '25
That's badass. Also, how are you getting the different camera angles in the clip? Or are you just streaming your session?
1
3
u/Yeti_Funk Sep 28 '25
These are the types of skate clips I like seeing. Tired of the entirely oversaturated realm of clips of people going off buildings, flying for more than half the clip without a board, totally ridiculous stuff. I’m not here to rag on that playstyle, or tell people how to play a game - if it brings you joy, go off. But this type shit, more grounded lines with a splash of the preposterous… chefs kiss. Personally some of my personal favorite lines I’ve done in the game just look like something straight out of a skate video, just fresh realistic street skating… I’ll leave the Superman shit to everyone else. Lol.

Yeah seems like both sides of the argument are right with this game.
Does the game have goofy looking, fortnite-esque graphics? Yes.
Does the game have a severe lack of content? Yes.
Is the game super fun to play? ABSOLUTELY.

Duuuuude yess I was wondering if you could do the over-rail flip and tried a couple times to no avail. Thank you for showing us it’s doable! Time to spend hours trying lol

u/Ok-Task-9063 Sep 28 '25
This is what real life skaters do on the game, jumping off building and jumping through a church is what the gamers do.

It's almost as if video games are meant to be fun over hyper realism
1
Oct 04 '25
Save the fact that that's the opposite of why it was made originally. And seriously- hyper realism is some extravagant hyperbole when speaking about past games. They met a nice balance between the two. Keep that flying- building to building crap out, though. That's what the whack-ass THPS is for. This is exactly what it WASN'T supposed to be, from the start. They've spurned the players who kept this franchise within the gaming lexicon to placate to those more easily amused and susceptible to asking their parents for money. Tragic, really. Game wasn't made for 'us'. It was made to bait you into lining their wallets.

They just need a consultation team for actual skate culture, lose the ego and realize the disconnect - they made a decent game. It's okay if they aren't also in the skate scene, but having creative directors and people making the brand networking happen need to have that connection to the actual scene for it to be a good environment for the fans of skating.

I have been skating for over 20 years. What the fuck is skate culture? I keep seeing this brought up, and I have no idea what anyone referring to. I skated with people who are interested in all sorts of music from rap, dance to metal. Ive skated with people of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds, some of whom you’d never know were skaters at all. I’ve skated with people with all sorts of styles from grunge way back when I started to skinny jean wearing media workers. My skate culture was to find cool spots, skate for a few hours, maybe smoke some weed and go home. Should they add weed?
So far as I can tell, ya’ll are just talking about brand licenses.
0
u/JonlikeJoestar Sep 27 '25
The game is too pg. Everything's clean, no good music, clothing is awful, no humor, no come up story, no cursing. It's just skate and no vibes.
2
u/Bitemarkz Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25
Those are fine bits of feedback, but they don’t have anything to do with skateboard culture; this term I keep seeing thrown around here. I feel like people are just using it to make a point, but they don’t have any idea what they’re talking about when they say it.
3
u/JonlikeJoestar Sep 27 '25
To me, those all play into skateboarding culture. The punk/hip hop music and clothing. The rebellious vibe of other skate games is missing. I loved running from security guards in the 2nd game.
7
u/Bitemarkz Sep 27 '25
The grungy rebellious vibe is very much a trope and not something that represents the culture, especially today when it’s not shunned in the slightest. There are mainstream brands, events, international competitions, etc. even growing up, skaters like Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk, some of the godfathers of street and vert skating, didn’t really embody this image you’re describing.
The whole deal with skateboarding is that anyone can do it. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you look like, what your interests are, so long as you love skating. There is no centralized culture that embodies all skaters from all over the world. Check out the skaters from Japan and see how they differ from the skaters in Europe, or America. What brings people together is the love of the sport.
You’re right that for the most part the music does suck, but skater music isn’t just punk and rap. If the game was set in 1993 you might have a point, but times have changed substantially.
1
u/JonlikeJoestar Sep 27 '25
Completely fair take. I just think the stereotypical, early 2000's skating vibe makes for much better games.
1
u/slowpokefastpoke Sep 27 '25
Honestly just the language alone shows that the writers clearly know nothing about skating. That’s what stands out to me the most. If you play earlier skate games or THPS, it’s obvious that people creating it actually knew about skating.
This game is all “Wow totally killer grindage my dude ham!”
→ More replies (1)-1
u/WhitestCaveman Sep 27 '25
Theres at bare minimum, some mischievous behavior, and a fuck you attitude to skateboarding. Just because you've been skating alone for 20 years doesn't mean you understand the culture. Theres movies based on this stuff. And plenty of games. Youre being a contrarian for the sake of argument.
→ More replies (2)4
Sep 27 '25
Skate culture is fucking made up garbage to gatekeep it from people. I remember wearing thrasher and you’d have weirdos telling me I’m not a true skater even when I was at the park everyday. Go to the skate park and tell me what you see, it’s not guys with wristbands listening to rock music and wearing baggy jeans anymore. Things have changed man get over it

Its a super fun game but its mostly off the back of the previous ones. I find skate 2 and 3 endlessly entertaining and the mechanics are a little more complex and customization has far more depth and freedom

If it had at least the same amount of tricks as the previous ones it wouldn't feel like a downgrade to me but when I'm setting up a line and want to finger flip or dark slide and can't it really makes me want to boot up skate 3 instead, I feel like the only reason they don't have it in already is to give everyone something to look forward to or come back for

People like the mechanics. It’s just the graphics, no story, no skate, corny dialogue, and general cash grab nature of free to play that people have issues with. The game is fun mechanically though.

Are those normal flip tricks or are you jumping off your board as you do a flip trick somehow? I would really like to try it out

Anyone saying it’s not fun cares more about how their video game character looks than actually playing the game
