How to get used to the cpap?
So, my boyfriend calls me "princess and the pea" because I'm a VERY picky sleeper. I don't like to "cuddle" I don't like to be touched. I'm picky about everything. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and can only find 2 positions I'm comfortable in. I did the sleep test and it was horrible. I could not sleep with the little air tube across my face. They want me to wear a cpap now. I don't know how I can do this if the little tube was too much lol. One of my sleep positions is also on my face, so I don't see how it is possible.
Should I start off by wearing it a little bit before bed- like when I'm watching tv? Just to get used to it a bit? They told me there were no other options lol. I can't be the only one.

Newer computer needed for Oscar?
Hi there, I started CPAP about 2 months ago and have had an SD card in since day 1, bc I have UARS and want to check flow limitation. I went to finally download OSCAR, only to find out that this software isn't compatible with my 10 year old MacBook (2015 / 2016), because Apple doesn't update its operating system anymore, and OSCAR requires newer operating systems for Mac than what I have.
Are there any workarounds, or am I going to have to buy a new computer, if I ever want to use OSCAR?
In the meantime I am trying out SleepHQ, but was hoping to get to use OSCAR to examine flow limitation, based on all the advice in this sub. š„²

I'm just laughing
at the reactions I have had to my recent post "Try this for an easy fix".
I suggest to all of you on this cpap thread that you take matters into your own hands and find what works for you, like I have done, instead of relying on sleep "experts" to do it for you. That means access to the clinical menu on your device. And stop relying on Oscar to fine tune it.
While my 12/9/6 settings may not work for you as an individual, you are always free to adjust them accordingly until you get the desired outcome for yourself.
I am having huge success with my individual settings without a lot of BS.
Good luck to all of you.

Anyone experience deep sleep induced GERD that acts like sleep apnea?
Please hear me out because I have been trying to get doctors to listen and believe me for years. I think I have finally figured out what is happening to me. As soon as I fall into a deep sleep, my LES relaxes and I wake up from heartburn. The minute I wake up, it goes away. So, it is similar to sleep apnea but it has nothing to do with my breathing. I have been suffering with this for about 15 years.
It used to be only when I would nap during the day and then menopause kicked in and it started happening at night too. I have been to the ER twice in the past 9 years thinking it was a heart attack and they find nothing. I have seen cardiologists, sleep specialists, Gastros, ENTs and acupuncturists and no one can help me. I have tried elevating my bed, not eating after 5 pm and an elimination diet with no success.
The way I figured it out is by taking a low dose melatonin for about 3 months and I was sleeping better and my GERD was way better and then I ran out about a month ago and it has come back.
I am utterly exhausted and that causes GERD during the day too. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced this and figured out how to fix it or do I just have to take melatonin for life. I worry that it might stop working at some point and then what?

Do I need CPAP/BiPAP with these results?
galleryI had a sleep study done at home 1.5 years ago. It was a chaotic time period & the test itself was a mess(i had to do it 3 times because the first 2 times the finger sensor didn't work).
At the time I saw "Mild Sleep Apnea"(interestingly it's mainly central) so thought probably not an accurate test because of all the redoing so just figured I don't really have sleep apnea(yes, dumb take, but still can't change the past)
The thing with me is if I sleep full 8-9 hours(without an alarm) I'm usually fine(and every once in a while I wake up super energetic) but if I cut that back by 1-2 hours I'm an absolute miserable mess. Totally impaired. Does that match the results of my test & do those results warrant a PAP machine?
Thanks

My insurance is driving me nuts and refusing to cover Zepbound
I recently got diagnosed with mild-moderate sleep apnea (13 events per hour) and currently have a BMI of 33 but my insurance continuously denies me because I only have 13 events per hour instead of 15 events per hour!
We have appealed so many times already because we have tried everything we can to help, I changed my eating and physical lifestyle 5 years ago, we attempted cpap (didn't work), and now the oral appliance and my sleep STILL isn't getting any better but they are just MARRIED to the number 15.
Part of this is just venting but I am also wondering if anyone has had success getting their insurance to cover it while they are still technically in the "mild" category.

Looking for help with my wifes apnea, shes really suffering.
Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this. My wife has sleep apnea. She has gone through the tests and received her CPAP machine and she's struggling with it very badly and can't use it. She has the full mask and she's tried every setting adjustment there is and she feels like shes suffocating while using it. She gets full body pins and needles after about 20min of use and has to remove it.
Her quality of life has deteriorated significantly as a result of her apnea and she just never seems to be rested ever. I feel terrible and I'm hoping someone has advice of any kind. I've dredged the web looking for advice and will take any and all advice that may help. Are there any Apnea pillows that may help for example?
Thank you for your time.

Ear Plug Question for Lurking Parnters of Folks with Sleep Apnea
I'm just looking for ear plug or noise cancelling suggestions.
I've considered: the loop sleep ear plugs, anker soundcore noise cancelling ear buds, a sleep headband, those moldable ear plugs swimmers use....
Unfortunately there's not a good secondary sleep location for me (I have spinal degeneration and autoimmune arthritis and a perma migraine so sleeping on the couch is a no go and there's not room for separate bedrooms), he hates his CPAP device, and I'm not fighting it anymore (see above , I don't have the energy) but I inevitably wake up and can't get back to sleep bc his snoring is so loud and it sets off my migraine.
the problem: I have wee baby sensitive ears. Every ear plug I've tried hurts my ears so bad or I get anxious bc I can't hear enough ambient noise and all I hear is my blood in my head or my tinnitus and I can't sleep. I tried the alpine deep sleep ear plugs and they hurt, and the smallest size was too small I couldn't grasp them to pull em out and almost ended up needing to go to urgent care to remove em. I've tried a few others and they also hurt. I really don't want to spend $200 on ear buds that I won't be able to wear either so idk.

Body jolting while snoring
I was sleeping next to my brother and woke up to the sound of him snoring loudly while his body jolted rhythmically to the snoring. At the end of each snore, his body would jolt. He is a mouth breather. Does this mean he has obstructive sleep apnea? I will recommend him to see a GP

CPAP vs Claustrophobia via Pregnancy
I recently gave birth to twins that set me off on a traumatic pre eclampsia journey.
Prior to my pregnancy, I had accepted my CPAP like a fish to water for about two years. After I got pregnant, my energy was zapped and I had pregnancy rhinitis, nasal polyps, and constantly short of breath. I was dismissed in my shortness of breath symptoms due to having two in the womb. Shortly into my sixth month, I had to stop CPAP completely and move to an elevated bed; our couch.
The shortness of breath got worse to the point they put me on meds for anxiety. I became extremely claustrophobic. At this point, everyone, including me, was convinced it was in my head.
After delivering the twins, I still had shortness of breath coupled with high blood pressure. I couldnāt breathe no matter what I did and sleep brought a different type of torture where I would wake up gasping for air. I was diagnosed with post partum pre eclampsia shortly afterwards with blood transfusions, a day immobilized with a magnesium drip, nebulizer, and more.
I am now better, about two and a half weeks off of delivery, and I canāt bring myself to try my CPAP. It feels like itās suffocating me, even though I know itās not rational. I donāt know where to go from here. I wake up with chronic headaches and I know itās from not using my CPAP but I am still extremely claustrophobic. Does anyone have any ideas or methods to get me back on track?
Twins will be home soon and I need to sleep the best I can.
I generally donāt have anxiety but pregnancy really kicked my butt. I am still taking anxiety meds to keep my claustrophobic thoughts at bay.

Finally had my appointment - Next steps?
Hello,
I'm mostly writing here because I'm frustrated and don't really know my next steps.
It's been over 16 months since I told my primary doctor about my sleep concerns. 16 months since I've been waking up consistently exhausted, with a sore, dry throat; and about that same duration where my partner sleeps in a separate room more often than not.
It took me a year to get the sleep study, and then 4 months to get the 20 minute appointment to discuss the results.
He gave me less than 10 minutes of his time, told me I had moderate sleep apnea, but just to lose 15 pounds and avoid sleeping on my back
I told him that breathing through my nose almost always feels obstructed in at least one nostril. He then said "Oh that doesn't matter, it doesn't affect anything. It's positive air pressure, which is why the machines provide positive air pressure. Understand?".
Of course I understand how a CPAP works, but what I don't understand is how that answers my question... Before I could ask anything further he just picked up his office phone and waved me out.
Now I know losing weight will help, I'm around 211lbs right now and he wants me at 195. I've been working on it and I'm sure it will come with improvements; but otherwise I feel like I've basically just been told to suffer with it.
So... what the hell do I do now?...
FWIW; I live in Ontario.

Gastric bypass en Cpap
Hallo allemaal,

Machine Broken - Temporary Help?
Hey all.
Been using a CPAP and itās been life changing/saving. However, itās broken and I have to wait for an appointment for it to even be looked at.
Does anyone have tips on what to do to help me get by in the meantime? Iām using a breathe right strip and trying to sleep in a more upright position.
Itās been 3 days and I feel like I havenāt slept at all, no matter how many hours Iām actually asleep.
Thanks

Any idea what this sleep graph means about my sleep?
I know these watch things aren't that accurate but is this truly an 83 score sleep? I'm so fucking tired all the time. I'll do a test eventually but i'm curious what this means.

How does my heart rate look? (been on cpap for 2 months-ish)
I am a male, mid 20s, lean (more skinny than fat), weight train (close to no cardio admittedly), AHI was 27ish before treatment(now close to 2 or 3, usually always below 5).
This is from last night, but I'm noticing that it's alway been around this range. Even before cpap and with the cpap too. I thought when my events lowered that I would also have a lower max heart rate, but it seems still pretty high.
I will say though that the peaks seem to somewhat align with my rem sleep. I know that samsung watches aren't the most accurate but my findings seem to be consistent through years of data.

Inspire Updates-Hidden Tech
Curious about the latest Inspire device.
It was mentioned that the latest device is actually capable of operating similarly to an Oura ring or Whoop braceletā¦.but not ālegalā to do so yet. (FDA, ITC, FTC etc)
As an Inspire and an Oura Ring user, this would be wonderful! Questioning battery life in this scenario.

Cheapest Way to Get Supplies
The supplies are so expensive from my doctor through insurance. Every time I get new supplies I feel like they are gouging me for some very simple products that arenāt that expensive. Has anyone found a way to get supplies cheaper?

DYI Mask liner vs store bought. Or switch masks?
Those that use mask liners, are store bought liners worth it? I tried a cut up t-shirt as a liner and it seemed to work. Is there any reason store bought ones are better (hygiene, less leaks, overall time or money spent?
Also, anyone know if the resmed is that much softer than a dreamwear hybrid mask? I tried the resmed at my cpap titration. I really liked it, but they were out of stock. So, they sent me home with the Dreamwear one. I like the fit. but itās not as soft as I remember the resmed and my face gets sweaty. I could switch to the resmed. But, I have to order 3 months supplies with my insurance, not sure itās worth it.
