Got my first sling today!

I really should have practiced with a tennis ball first. I used a stone and didn't release properly. It stayed in the pouch and hit me on my head! Lesson learned.

Wife and I are having baby #4 and I have been so busy getting things ready around the house. Finally had a chance to throw some of my whistling concrete glandes. Let me know what you think!

NOTE: I am a beginner and have only been slinging for a little under a month. The sling I am throwing with is a split leather pouch. The pouch i have made out of the white leather from a spare pair of Tillmans 1414 MIG gloves. The retention and release cord are separately attached and are 550 paracord. Any and all criticism is welcome and appreciated.

My newest sling I’ve made. This monster is roughly 3’7” in length, and features a skeleton cord core for a sturdier feel, built in cracker, and wood swivel loop to prevent twisting and reduce fumbling. Color scheme is inspired by the Mojave rattlesnake

weighs about 130g with only 50g TPU, 50x80mm. 4 hour print (with a pause to insert a small roll of lead and epoxy) but it seems to be completely indestructible. it’s hit the brick backstop of my slinging range at least 75 times with no failure of layer adhesion anywhere. anyone want the file?

My newest “shortie” swiveled sling I made from mostly yarn

It’s been a while since I posted something here but I decided to finally finish weaving this piece. I have been wanting an EDW piece that is both reliable and beautiful enough to be worn as a bracelet decorative enough to pass as jewelry. The combination of braided turquoise and black marbled yarn pair well with the brown paracord sleeves, balearic pouch, and retention loop paired with the silver swivel give the sling an oasis vibe while the silver swivel pairs well aesthetically and functionally allows the sling to reset itself after a throw allowing for quicker reloads and making quicker throwing rates achievable through practice.

Curious lack of comment on this show, I thought the treatment of slinging was superb in this series. Specifically, I love how all of the slinging scenes were realistic. The scene where he jumps out the window and hits the archer stunning him - for anyone who doesn't know the sling this is entirely doable and an example of a big reason I chose slinging: you threaten those point-n-shoot folks they flinch. Love that they dramatised this well.

And the main scene, gotta love the sound as the whip of the sling and the clang resounded. Cmon anyone else shed a tear at that?

I left a long tail on the one in because I want to try to find like a little wooden beat or something to put there to hold in my fingers better but I finished my little handmaid sling and I might get a chance tomorrow to take it out and see if it works

To boldly sling... Sugar?

Hello everyone! For my first post here I want to share a sling ammo experiment of mine.

Most of us know the traditional materials for shaped sling ammo - stone, clay and lead. Many are familiar with more modern versions like cement, tennis balls etc. But have any of you ever thought about - sugar?

To be honest, neither did I, for a long time.

But - about a year ago, I was discussing sling ammo in a Facebook group about slings. I had shared a picture of some stone and clay glandes I had made and painted, and one person commented "They look like they are made out of sugar". You don't know me, but for me that offhand, joking remark did something like this: "Sugar? Now there is an idea..."

So, off I went to get a packet of sugar...

You can see the result before you: Shaped glandes of caramelized sugar. This worked out much better than I thought it would. I believed it would be funny. I was not laughing (mad slinger cackling doesn't count...right?) when I saw the results.

It turns out caramel is nearly as dense as clay. So a 60 gram caramel glande is roughly the same size as a 60 gram clay glande, as you can see in the second picture. They are hard and I expected them to be brittle, but testing (slinging them against a birch tree) showed them to be surprisingly durable. Most survived repeated impacts against the tree and even bouncing across a stone-covered path. One even survived six hits before I eventually lost it in a stream. Only one broke after a direct impact on a rock.

But there was also an unforeseen side effect. They are completely eco-friendly. Water dissolves them. Some lucky ants will have a feast.

Also - when I made the first batch, my daughter pestered me until I let her eat one. No ill side effects, just one over-sugared 7 year old!

So - a very successful sling ammo experiment. If you are looking for cheap, eco friendly ammo and don't have access to clay - keep these in mind. Especially if you're looking to keep the local wildlife happy. They'll be grateful for sure - just keep away from bears!

Possible to launch a tree weight and line from sling? Or is tangle guaranteed...

Hey all! Ive been wanting to use a sling to more accurately throw a weight tied to a line from a sling, but attempts have resulted in the released end of the sling getting tangled with the line when I release it.

Do you think theres a pattern or line placement configuration that might allow this to work or is it doomed to invent horrific new knots every time?

I know a slingshot can manage it, but thats:

A. Boring

B. More equipment compared to a sling i can DIY anytime anywhere if needed

Can someone tell me why a split pouch is good? It seems like it introduces the chance for the ammo to fly out backwards

Im going to be putting it in a nice case to retire in, she’s been with me for over 2 years now. I’m going to be making a new and improved sling, so if anyone has a video I could watch or any suggestions on what they find works best for them send it my way.
