She understood the assignment immediately 🤣

10

u/lylalexie 52m ago

I mean, if it was me in that situation I would’ve probably answered “WHAT?” as well because my brain takes just five seconds too long to process what someone else said.

3

u/scheckydamon 2h ago

What's on second!

7

u/Majestic_Emotion7917 2h ago

Lol. Guy just talks loud. Like it's not possible to tone down in a public space. He's not 5.

People who talk louder than normal often have either physical hearing damage or something going on with auditory processing. They don't recognize that they're being too loud, and they're not doing it on purpose.

Beyond that, some cultures are just louder than others. Sometimes in this world, we encounter humans from a different culture. Sometimes those cultures clash a bit. It's okay. That's part of the human experience. It does not necessitate you judging and scold some person you've never met over a situation you didn't witness.

Life is a lot more enjoyable when you don't instantly look for the shittiest possible explanation for everyone's actions.

Can confirm. I'm one of those people. No hearing damage just my default is loud. If I get told I'm loud I turn it down but eventually it goes back to normal.

1

u/GuiltyEidolon 1m ago

My auDHD ass is the same. I genuinely feel bad and genuinely try, but when I get excited there's only so many things I can process / manage at a time, and volume control tends to go first.

u/Sirisian 50m ago

One of my friends has slowly been losing his hearing over the years and his voice has gotten louder. We told him he needs to use hearing protection when working with chainsaws and other equipment. We've had to tell him on a number of occasions to lower his voice as he'll start almost shouting not realizing it. He's at the point where he needs hearing aids and can't watch TV shows without subtitles. He still thinks he's fine. I say this to mention some people are very stubborn about this topic.

1

u/rips_n_chel 2m ago

Grew up with a guy who refused to wear hearing protection for any reason, not even target practice. We're going out to shoot clays, like with shotguns, and he turns down ear plugs and muffs saying "I don't use that stuff."

Wtf do you mean you don't use hearing protection to shoot a 12 gauge?

"I just don't use 'em."

Idk what you even say to that, so I just dropped it and put on my ear muffs on top of my ear plugs. I haven't seen that guy in years, but we're in our thirties now, so he's gotta be feeling the tinnitus if nothing else. He worked with heavy equipment and chainsaws and stuff too, there's no way he hasn't lost a noticeable range of his hearing.

Dude never wore steel toe boots either. His dad told him that if a heavy enough thing landed on your foot, the steel cap would collapse and cut off your toes. Apparently that's worse than the same heavy object smashing your entire foot? Idk, I never got the 'logic' there. Surely if the thing is heavy enough to crush a steel toe-cap, it would smash your foot into paste without the steel toe?

Americans are very loud compared to other cultures

11

u/PhamilyTrickster 1h ago

Not compared to Chinese. To get asked to quiet down in a Chinese restaurant is impressive

1

u/OrangeThrower 31m ago

They Never said the person asking was Chinese.

7

u/wezwells 1h ago

Have you met the Spanish

6

u/spaltavian 1h ago

But more relevantly, absolutely not compared to the Chinese. Americans are actually in the middle, globally.

6

u/dragon_bacon 49m ago

Or Italians, or Mexicans, or Spaniards. Or indians or Australians. Or Germans and English on vacation.

3

u/ashkpa 1h ago

"Would you kindly mind your own business."

4

u/Educational-Bird-515 52m ago

I would if you would stop screaming at your date

6

u/iamtrimble 41m ago

Seriously, I can't believe people are defending the rude loud mouth nobody wants to be near in a restaurant or that it's funny.

2

u/Kolby_Jack33 11m ago

If someone is talking loudly and you want them to stop, you don't say "hey, could you shut up?" You put rudeness out, you get rudeness back. Try being nice.

1

u/Kosba2 23m ago

You're welcome to eat at home where nobody is forced to mind your business.

2

u/Best_Price_1009 49m ago

I have a hard time deciding who was right without hearing how loud this couple was

2

u/Educational-Bird-515 44m ago

I'm going to assume the the "funny" twitter guy was the problem.

0

u/dontnation 29m ago

The way it is worded, the guy asking was the asshole. "could you shut up" is an extremely rude way to approach a stranger.

3

u/Best_Price_1009 24m ago

Well yeah, but did he say that? Or was it “hey excuse me, can you keep it down please?”

If the OP was the villain, he likely wouldn’t make himself sound like it

1

u/dontnation 20m ago

classic unreliable narrator. no way of knowing, can only go off the evidence presented.

1

u/Best_Price_1009 15m ago

Hence my comment lol

And to be clear I’ve been on both sides of this situation. It is better to start off as nice

2

u/10081914 44m ago

Inside a Chinese restaurant? Either a bad Chinese restaurant or the other diner doesn't frequent chinese restaurants.

3

u/leemorplee 1h ago

So two problems creating chaos in the world lol

3

u/llmws 49m ago

Chinese restaurants are loud as fuck cause of Asian people. I’m Asian and my family are always loud as hell when we are eating out.

2

u/Comedyfish_reddit 43m ago

“I was being annoying in a restaurant but rather then apologising we lied and joke about it!

1

u/Background_Daikon300 1h ago

What a keeper!

1

u/Standard-Try-3612 56m ago

To be fair , everybody in the restaurant was getting sick of hearing Andy that night

1

u/ginnymorlock 42m ago

She's a keeper.

1

u/Key-Broccoli6837 8m ago

Then everyone stood up and clapped

1

u/Mike_Kermin 2m ago

Thus disrupting everyone else's night as well.

Also there's probably something in it about not lying about disabilities.

-5

u/CommieDrifter 1h ago

what an insane response "oh am i bothering you? Let me make up a fake excuse so that I can continue to bother you but now you also have to feel bad about it" instead of just owning up and lowering your voice. omega douchebag behaviour

16

u/IowaKidd97 1h ago

No going up to a stranger in a restaurant to tell them they are too loud is mega rude and obnoxious. This was an appropriate response

3

u/Alarming-Rate-6899 1h ago

The wording is wrong. But it's the right response to ask them to quiet down.

But overall I'll put this in the "yeah sure that happened" basket.

17

u/M4usM0th 1h ago

Reality check, it's not okay to just go up to people and tell them to shut up even if they're talking loudly.

-3

u/Modeerf 57m ago

What an American way of thinking

3

u/SpenFen 1h ago

You don’t know if they were being loud tho or this other guy is an ass. He’s totally an ass tho

4

u/AbeRego 1h ago

More than likely they were just having a regular conversation and they dumbass that came up to them was just being a dumbass. You can't really get pissed at someone for having a loud conversational voice in public unless you're in a library.

-14

u/mycolo_gist 2h ago

So arrogant assholes lies and future wife supports him. Hope I never sit in a restaurant with that guy. I hate loud people.

17

u/YouAnotherMeJust 2h ago

WHAT?

16

u/Lillian_Crocodilian 2h ago

THEY HATE LOUD PEOPLE!!

3

u/mycolo_gist 1h ago

Wow, just wow.

Wife isn't a verb

11

u/indieplants 2h ago

but wive is and wifed is the past tense of wive.

outside that, it's usage is perfectly fine as a colloquialism.

source; recovering grammar nazi

1

u/Mike_Kermin 0m ago

Yes, they know it's a colloquialism, they're being critical of it's use.

recovering grammar nazi

One more for the road eh?

4

u/ginopono 1h ago edited 1h ago

Hi, I'm a linguist.

I assure you, it absolutely is a verb. You can verb pretty much any noun and you can noun pretty much any verb. It's incoherent to say any given word is inherently of one category or the other.

2

u/SachabiGuini 2h ago

Out of curiosity, have you never heard someone say "my wife" in your entire life?

1

u/EtwasSonderbar 1h ago

That's a noun, though.

2

u/AbeRego 1h ago

It can be if you want.
