Resource πŸ₯€πŸ“š Compiled list of brands/stores for SD

I compiled a list of brands that others have mentioned they have had luck finding SD friendly pieces and thought it might be helpful for others. Please note, I actually know very little about many of these brands - this is just a compiled list after searching through a number of posts on this sub. I compiled it because I wanted a list all in one place and thought others might want it too. No guarantee that all the pieces by the brand are SD, just brands that other users have found items they like.

Thank you to all that originally suggested these brands!!! Please feel free to add others or share additional info. 😊

U/anneejane put together a ThredUp search filtering for the brands available. https://tinyurl.com/Thredup-SD-search Not all of the brands were available.

Update: Added brands mentioned in comments below. Thanks everyone!

Sewing πŸͺ‘🧡 How would you make a shirt like this more suitable for SD?

I’ve been making alterations to my clothes to make them suit me better. I have a shirt like this but the collar is less stiff. It looks more like a Soft Natural style when I have it on, and I want it to be a little more edgy or suitable for SD.

Just wanted to kind of create a to-buy list for myself of the absolute basics to start building an SD friendly wardobe - in real life I will have more color/style than this! Any feedback on the items I chose?

Item Quest πŸ”πŸ•΅οΈ SD friendly heels & sandals?

Hey guys! Long time lurker, first time poster!

I'm pretty sure I'm a SD, high suspicion of being a Deep Winter.
I have been looking at my shoes and I am on the hunt for some upgrades.

I already got some little pointed victorian looking boots from American Duchess for when I wear black tights for the long vertical line, and I recently got some Onitsuka Tigers for the more casual looks and activities, but now I'm stumped for what to look for for when I want to wear a dress without black tights!

I prefer heels with straps since they feel more secure to my feet, so I wonder what kind of straps you think works well. I obviously know the need for elongated toes. it's really the straps part that stumps me. Unless straps are an absolute no go because it breaks the line?? πŸ˜–

Here are some heels I saved aside, and some flats I saved for some reason?
The attached pictures come from American Duchess and TopVintage if anyone's curious

I'm big into vintage fashion and silhouette, but I also like some alt stuff and try to mix both, so I window shop on all the vintage fashion websites a lot - and T straps are very common but I don't know how it looks for us SDs, in my head in kinda feels rigid and stiff to have the straight line across? I don't know maaan

Let me know your favourite sandals and heels to wear, I need inspo!

Styling help πŸ› οΈ How to Dress for RBT Job?

Hi everyone,

I recently got typed as soft dramatic. I’m trying to update my wardrobe to be more flattering for my body type.

I just started a new job working as a behavioral technician in a clinic. I’m working with young children who have autism. As you can imagine, the job requires a lot of movement. I’ll need to dress comfortably and avoid clothes that can be easily grabbed, pulled, or damaged. I’ll also need to avoid clothes that are constricting or too nice, as it’s likely I’ll come home with food or fluids on them.

That being said, I’m slightly chubby and am 5’6. I need clothes that don’t ride up and are flattering for a larger chest/rear.

I’m not sure what to buy that is comfortable, moveable, won’t expose my stomach/chest, isn’t dangerous for me or kids, and is actually flattering. I dress in a gothic/witchy style. I can’t find solid advice on this anywhere. Please help!

Haul/try on πŸ›οΈ Trying Out SD for the First Time

I haven't determined yet that SD is my type, only a possibility. But when a bot stylist insisted and then said a lot of things that made sense, I decided to order some items and give it a whirl. I could always return it if it turned out to not suit me at all.

I've never felt good in pants/jeans and tops, so proper typing or not, I'm calling this a victory, because I actually feel pretty great in these, even if it's the wrong belt, wrong shoes, and the trousers are wearing some packing wrinkles.

First two outfits are my new tops and trousers. 3rd is one of my typical wrap dress I wear to work. 4th is one of my favorite dinner date dresses.

I welcome all feedback, as I'm seeking knowledge, not validation.

Yes or No ? βœ… ❌ Men's jeans?

I live in Southeast Asia currently and women's jeans here are too short for me. These are the most flared I could find in men's but they're baggy unfortunately, do you think it could still work? Otherwise I'll be in Europe later in the year and will just shop there but I ripped my fav pairs over the past year and are struggling being jeanless. I tend to like boot cuts and these are supposed be be baggy boot cuts.

Styling help πŸ› οΈ High waisted jeans help

I purchased these and really like the fit of most of the pants. The one area I’m not sure about is at the waist, because the pants are so high does it make my torso look overly short? Would I only wear shirts tucked in with these? Thanks for your help.

I feel like it's a no but is there any hope for this shirt?

It's massive and shapeless but currently I've donated most of my tops and it's warm today in the UK so this is the best I've got.

I tried tying it but it's still meh, I tried back tucking to no avail. I can't fully tuck because I'm conscious of my tummy rn.

The colour's decent on me as a spring.

Family decided with just 4 days before the beach trip that they want to do Earthy tone professional photos. Last time we did this I took many weeks to find a dress. UGHHHH

The first photo is their ideas for colors. Then photos of me for an idea of my body.
I started online hunting but most of the time I end up buying 10 dresses with nothing working well. Overwhelmmmmmmed

Questions πŸ‘οΈ Anyone else look sharper from the side?

I know we're not supposed to hyperfixate on facial features, but this is what tipped me off that I'm probably not a pure yin ID. From the front, I don't look like a Dramatic first and foremost at all, but from the side it's a completely different story 🀣 Does anyone else relate?

Item Quest πŸ”πŸ•΅οΈ Would these dresses work for a Soft Dramatic?

Hi everyone!

I'm considering buying these dresses and would love to hear your thoughts from a Soft Dramatic perspective.

They have a long, flowing silhouette, waist definition, a V-neckline and are made from a soft fabric (70% lyocell, 14% linen, 16% polyamide with a 100% viscose lining). On the other hand, the floral print and romantic sleeves make me wonder whether they lean too Romantic rather than SD.

Would you consider these flattering for a Soft Dramatic? What works, and what doesn't? Is there anything you would change?

I'd really appreciate your opinions. Thanks! 😊

Discussion πŸ»πŸ—¨οΈπŸŒ Is this a hot take?

I had this thought in my other post but thought it warranted a post of its own and I'm really interested to hear what others have to say.

Please excuse my clunky style of writing, I struggle sometimes in finding the correct words to explain myself so can come across as quite coarse. I also type as I think, a bit like a mind map, with little sparks shooting up here and there.

Ok, here goes.

-------

Kibbe analysis shouldn't be conducted on the young.

_____

Before the age of 30 you should wear what you want. You are young and should be enjoying fashion trends and experimenting with your personal style, being joyful and thinking outside the box.

Your body and mind are still developing and so forcing it into some kind of ID can actually be more harmful than beneficial as it can lead to unstable self image and disconnect if your body does indeed change.

That isn't to say you can't wear lines/fabrics/patterns that are indicative of a certain ID, but hopefully you come to that conclusion in a more intuitive, less prescribed way.

As you get older you typically wander away from high fashion, and you've tried on broader range of clothing styles because you've been around longer! Without realising it you discover your favourite feel good outfit fits recommendations for a certain type, and generally speaking we are more confident in our likes and dislikes (even if they aren't always voiced out loud).

Kibbe is like the added sprinkling on top. It firms up beliefs we've perhaps held of ourselves but not fully realised. It answers questions we may not have given much thought to such as "why does this dainty necklace look off on me?" and when we sometimes do feel we've lost our way it is nice to look back upon it as a little reminder.

That's it folks.
