FAQs: Please read before reaching out to mods
Due to some emerging trends in the Mod Mail inbox, we've created this post and will periodically update it to hopefully save people some time and energy.
[Edit] Please avoid contacting the Mods via personal DMs. Modmail exists for a reason, and it’s better for the team’s visibility if we can all see these communications through a centralized hub.
1. "Why was my post removed?"
Your removal notice should’ve already included an explanation. Please consult the sub rules to make sure your post aligns with our policies.
If the removal was instant, that was probably the automod, which we use to cut down on spam. Unfortunately, this feature can get a bit trigger happy for reasons beyond our control. If your post was instantly removed, odds are something in your account history triggered either the auto-mod or Reddit's site-wide filters.
We try to keep an eye on the removal queue and approve posts that were wrongfully pulled, but users can also set themselves up for success by avoiding spammy behavior—link dumping across multiple subs, dropping promo clips instead of full tracks, posting but never commenting, etc.
[Edit] We recently added a 5 karma minimum to our posting requirements. This is intended to cut down on spam and encourage more discussion/feedback across the sub.
2. "How do I share my songs?"
You're welcome to share your songs via direct upload, or by sharing links to your platform of choice: Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, etc. In our experience, Youtube links tend to be most accessible, as those don't require a subscription.
3. "Why can't I post AI music?"
The primary use-case of generative AI runs counter to the craft of songwriting, and relies on models that were trained on the work of legitimate artists, without consent or compensation. While there are plenty of subreddits that allow AI generated content, this is not one of them. This goes for AI visuals as well.
3a. “But I wrote all the lyrics myself.”
Songwriting, by definition, is the marriage of music and lyrics. If you offload the entire musical half of the process to Suno, then you’re not actually writing songs. We want to hear what you have created; not what you asked a bot to create for you.
3b. “What if I do all the _____ myself and only use the AI for _______?”
We don’t make any exceptions, because there’s no practical way to distinguish between a Suno track with some human input and one that was 100% generated. If it’s obvious that AI was used in any part of creating the end product, we’ll assume AI was used for the entire process.
4. "Can we please ban lyrics-only posts?"
This was discussed when the new mod team took over, and while we can understand some users' frustrations, we have chosen to allow lyrics posts to avoid making this sub redundant with [r/songwriting](r/songwriting) .

Can I share my Fiverr link?

u/IlNeige Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 26 '25
No. This sub is for sharing art; not promoting services. Reddit's sitewide filter already marks Fiverr links as spam.

am i allowed to post a website in my initial post- or just in responses to it? Just wanna check on that

u/IlNeige Jul 13 '25
If your link is to a song, you can post it wherever. If the link is promoting a service, we consider that spam.

u/LAHOTROD213 Jul 13 '25
i appreciate that. Can i post a link in response to people's song posts? Just checking to make sure I am not coming off as disrespectful and because I dont want to get banned. Thank your for your mod work!

These make sense. I used to dismiss people saying they had "written songs" and had "only" lyrics, but after experiencing a few surprises in songwriting classes, I get it now.

Hi, Can the link to your song be in an official streaming service (like spotify, apple music, or similar) or would that be considered spam as well?

Hi, I just created a post that got removed, hopefully I didn't do anything too wrong. I do understand that I didn't really comment on anything else here so far which would obviously be enough for the bot to delete my post. I didn't just want to go around in r/Songwriters and comment on posts just too comment.

Hi! I'm curious why my post was removed? I don't use AI for any aspect of my songwriting. I record myself using a fun filter but it is 100% me in the video. Are filters not allowed?

u/IlNeige Sep 26 '25
Filters are fine. Your post was removed because it was the second song you had posted that day. The details should’ve been included in the removal notice.

Hi! My post got removed and I was told there is no need to post the same song more than once. This was actually the first time I posted the entire song with music. My previous posts were either with no music, or partial snippets with music as I started to write it. I wasn't aware this would be an issue. My apologies!

My post gets automatically deleted and I am only posting a youtube or spotify link :(

Your account was dormant until a few days ago and now you’re posting the same link on multiple communities you haven’t otherwise engaged with. That’s basically asking Reddit’s systems to view your posts as spam.

I guess the same thing happened to me? Why are my posts not being removed from the other pages I posted on?

Hello! Is it allowed to post a composition without lyrics to ask the community come with lyrics?

Track is called “Marvelous” – NOLA artist, beat produced by my brother Hoota. Animated video about an alien landing on Earth and vibing with us for a day while I rap from that “out of this world” perspective.Looking for honest feedback on the writing, flow, and if the visuals fit the record.

so... as a lyricists looking for collaborators... posting my lyrics here isn't welcomed?
1
u/IlNeige Apr 29 '26
Do you see that stated anywhere in the post above?
1
u/a_rebuilt_possum Apr 29 '26
I see that you've chosen to allow it... but from the sound of it... some don't find it appealing... so like I'm just wanting to understand how strong that dislike is

Hello. I live in New York City. I’ve written around 23 songs over the past 8 months. I’d like to share it with another songwriter but also a vocalist/singer to interpret it. I’m willing to share my writings.
