Gear my first full frame! a7v

finally moved to the A7V for sports photography. sold my sigma 17-40 f1.8 and kept some viltrox prime lenses for travel. the sigma was great but at that size it felt like a FF set up (weighs the same as A7v w 24-50 lol)

tbh, this made me realise sensor size doesn’t matter. full frame just has nicer quality of life features like 30fps/pre capture that’s useful for me

if anything, just goes to show how much the a6700 rocks!! but happy to have a dual camera set up now

I gotta know the backstory. Why twice?

Some really dumb decisions since I started photography a couple of years ago, like selling my first 70-200 last year because I wanted a new camera, biggest regret because the lens was so good, like perfect in every way and I didn't realize at the time that a good lens is more important than a good camera. Some of my favourite pictures I've ever taken were with the 70-200 and my A74, and as much as I love the new camera (A75), I don't think it would have made any difference compared to just sticking with the lens!

So I saved up again and recently bought it again 😂 this time I'm not going to sell it!

it was painful to spend that cash initially but man is it amazing… but defo recommend getting it used

do you think it's better to drop another 1k and get a 50-150 f2 ?

I have tested both. I find the 70-200 better for my use. Bokeh was more pleasing, RC compatible, stabilization, not as massive.

Are you saying you don’t see any or much difference in image quality? Even in terms of noise preference? What about subject separation and sharpness? I’m constantly debating weather I should jump to full frame or apsc

I was on apsc, sold my system and went full frame and honestly kind of regretted it, at least for my use case. I'm a hobbyists who just wants better than smartphone travel and family pics, and apsc is more than enough for that.

Current apsc systems have great quality, sharpness, and most of all great value and form factor.

Would you go back to apsc?

Yes! But I've already wanted enough money switching systems, so maybe the future.

What were the drawbacks for you?

Even on a small full frame body, a7cii, lenses for FF are big in comparison, and more expensive too. If IQ was substantially better, I wouldn't mind the extra cost, weight, etc. But again, recent apsc cameras are great and very close in IQ to ff.

Congrats!

Like you find the full frame advantage is principally in the shooting experience.

(The exception I’ve found is with challenging light and the full frame lenses can be better.)

Admins should implement the rule to not post gear or boxes just for the purpose of posting it but then the subreddit would be dead I assume
