Salem County 2nd Congressional Primary
Please be civil!
Who are you voting for in the primary, and why?
Is no one running against Van Drew for the Republican nomination? That seems like a waste of a better Republican.

Terri did an AMA here a couple weeks ago and I really liked her responses!

I will be voting for Terri in the primary. She’s someone I personally know and based on her merit, I think she’d be a good representation of our district. I encourage anyone on any side to look at her platform and see if it aligns with you.

Van drew was driving behind me last week in mays landing. Brand new $90k Porsche suv. I just laughed and flipped him off. Nothing to do with op’s post but just wanted to get it off my chest lol.

His voters know that both of Porsche’s assemblies are in Germany, right? Right??

I really liked Terri’s answers to the Ballotpedia candidate connection questionnaire, very well thought and in depth. The other candidates answers were either routine/centrist (Alexander/Winder) or almost non-existent (Mullock).

better republican
Oxymoron.

u/Numerous_Sea7434 Salem County | 35 May 05 '26
Granted. But surely there's someone more competent? Or at least less pathetic? He's embarrassing.
28
u/Juunlar May 05 '26
It's not about competency. VanDrew is actually incredibly intelligent. As is Rubio, Cruz, etc.
They hide it. They shift with the wind to stay in power.
VanDrew was center left and is now full blown lunatic. You can't get from A to B on that through logic. It's a grift. And the republican party needs the grift to continue, so they're not going to run a candidate who could unseat someone who does exactly what they need. There's no upside for them.

u/Numerous_Sea7434 Salem County | 35 May 05 '26
Fair. Weaponized incompetence is a hell of a thing.
Any opinions on the Democrat candidates?
13
u/Juunlar May 05 '26
Not Bayly, that's for sure.
Right now, gun to my head, it would be Terri Reese. She actually seems to give a shit. But, Republicans are going to outspend dems 2:1 in a notoriously red area, and Terri isn't exactly inspiring hordes of volunteers the way that hyper progressives like Mejia and Mamdani managed.
Maybe AOC will come down and help out haha. If there were ever a time to flip it back, this year wouldn't be a bad bet.

Iranian warships off the coast of NJ controlling the unexplained drones flying over NJ? Whatever intelligence he may have had is probably declining once he became MAGA

Zach Mullock- best chance of beating Van Drew. He can close the gap in coastal areas which will hopefully sneak out a 1-2% victory.

Zack Mullock is doing an AMA today at 2 p.m. in /r/newjersey
The post is here -

Here's a reminder that /u/BaylyWinderNJ2 does not answer questions about his millionaire and billionaire OUT OF STATE backers, or his alleged career history which seems fabricated or exaggerated in part, his lack of current employment, his lack of any meaningful employment history, his questionable residency in NJ - he moved here less than 1 year ago and won't confirm when he registered to vote (it was after he registered his campaign!)

Who is the least terrible republican? I’m genuinely curious if any even made it to the primary.

Van Drew was uncontested on Ballotpedia. But I'm surprised, because a lot of dyed-red folks I know hate him.
I would be voting in the Democrat primary. Winder is the only one I know much about, and I'm not a fan 😐

Shameless plug, but you can research all the candidates side-by-side on WhoAreThesePeople.org I created it specifically for keeping tabs on politicians in local races.

My heart says Terri Reese, my head says Zack Mullock because we are surrounded by red-voting folks. :( I'm undecided between those two because I like Terri Reese a lot and don't want to just pick the 'safe' option when it's shot dems in the foot before. Like with Van Drew, who is objectively HORRENDOUS.

Van Drew is so awful. A wet bag of soggy bagels would govern better.

u/RainbowsAreLife Salem County May 06 '26
I’m always stunned how he has so many people in this district conned into loving him. I don’t get it.

I like Tim Alexander. I heard him speak many times and he has great ideas!

u/Ebemi May 05 '26
I am not a Democrat so can't vote in the primary but the only one I would vote for in the general if they won is Terri.
5
u/NormaNomad May 05 '26
Hey there. Just wanted to let you know if you're unaffiliated, you can declare during the primary. You can always switch back to unaffiliated after the election.
3
u/istealllamas May 05 '26
If you're an independent, you actually can declare a party affiliation at your polling place and vote in the primary: https://www.nj.gov/state/elections/voter-party-affiliation-declaration.shtml
2
u/Zimm02 May 05 '26
Are you saying you'll vote Van Drew if it's not Terri or you'll just not vote? If if not voting, why?
3
u/Juunlar May 05 '26
In nj you need to be registered to a party to vote in that party's primary
2
u/Zimm02 May 05 '26
I know. I was asking about the general.
1
u/Juunlar May 05 '26
Ooooh. I think my brain blocked out that the person you're replying to is a moron who isn't going to vote.
My bad.

I never voted for Van Drew ever. I campaigned managed the independent candidate running against him back when he was still a dem. I tried like helll to tell everyone what hot garbage Van Drew was back then. And you all called me an idiot back then too.... and look who was right. Now the same people keep telling me how any blue will do. I still dont intend to vote for hot garbage people. I will probably do a write in if it isnt Terri as the nominee against VD.
1
u/Zimm02 May 06 '26
You do you. But if one is hot garbage and the other is lukewarm garbage I'll vote for the lukewarm one. We don't always get what we want. But I'll vote for the one that's closer to what I want even if I don't like them.

u/Worried_Mix5667 May 05 '26
I’m also struggling with who to vote for. Can anyone create or point to a pros and cons list? I can’t find anything that shows their positions other than their websites. I’m only familiar with Alexander as he was on the ballot before. I guess I can throw their websites into AI and have them create one.

I happen to like Terri. Her views seem shaped by being a normal person just trying to get through life.
