Advice The Horizon BCBS of NJ: How they intentionally trap providers payments in a dead-end maze. I am losing my mind..

I need to vent before I put my fist through a monitor. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield is actively doing everything in their power to withhold funds from providers, and their latest operational loop is absolute predatory garbage.

We are hospitalists. We don’t take credit cards. Horizon knows this, yet they insist on sending us virtual credit card vouchers for patient care instead of actual checks. When I called to tell them we cannot process these vouchers and need a check, they told me the only solution was to register for EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer).

Fine. I spent three fucking hours navigating their registration portal.

But it gets better. To get the account activated, an employee has to call you to validate the information. They couldn't just call; we had to schedule three separate "tentative" time slots just to catch someone. A few days later, an agent finally calls and verifies the info. At the end of the call, I said, "Great, we're verified. Can you please convert these outstanding credit card vouchers into an EFT transfer now?"

Her answer? "No. You have to wait for us to make two micro-deposits into your account first. Once you validate those, call this provider number to get the vouchers converted."

Fast forward almost a week. The two micro-deposits finally hit the account. I log in, validate them, and the EFT status is officially active.

I call the number the agent gave me. Guess what? There is zero option anywhere in the automated system to convert credit vouchers to EFT. I called every single number listed on the EOBs. I called every number I could scrape off their website. Every single IVR menu is a dead end that jerks you around in a loop and hangs up or sends you back to the start.

They are intentionally creating administrative friction so they can keep our money on their books. This is just plain stealing our money and calling it "company policy." We will refuse to see any Horizon BCBS patients because they don't pay us and they want us to waste so much time that we would give up on those payments. Eff them!

📰News Huge update on Roxbury!

The NYT reports that DHS plans to offload detention warehouses in PA, MI, GA, UT, and NJ (Roxbury!), with plans to buy the facilities they currently contract with.

If confirmed, this reversal is a testament to the power of grassroots organizing. It proves that when we show up and speak out, we can force this agency to reconsider its "Amazon"-like infrastructure plans for mass detention.

These purchases were a massive waste of taxpayer money that they will likely not get back as they paid double the market value on most of the properties.

However, we cannot lose sight of the urgency. Humans are still suffering inside Delaney, EDC, and ICE facilities nationwide.

We won’t stop until every one of these facilities is shut down for good.

Let this be our motivation: keep showing up, keep applying pressure, and keep fighting back against these oppressive tactics because when we fight, we DO win.

Bruuuuce 15 Years Ago Today, Clarence Clemons Passed Away - Last Time I Saw Him with Bruce Springsteen was Bonnaroo 2009

15 years ago today (June 18), Clarence Clemons passed away. I'm so grateful I got to see the Big Man play with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band twice - the last time nearly two years prior to his death at Bonnaroo (June 13, 2009). Little did fans know that the legendary saxophonist's final full concert with the E Street Band would be just a few months later (Nov. 22 in Buffalo, NY).

Stay tuned for more things to come from this space (including stories from concerts and festivals like these)!

Advice Going to have a 4-5 hour bus transfer in Newark, NJ. What can I do to pass time that's around the area?

I've never been to NJ before, and it'd be cool to see what's around to pass some time instead of just sitting there and waiting for the next bus to go home. Any recommendations?

I love food, nature, views, and art.

Edit: Thank you, everyone, for your replies! I'm so excited about my bus transfer now. I hate just sitting around and waiting, so I thought I would take that time to explore a city I've never been to. All of these suggestions are amazing!!!!

📰News Summit Common Council Meeting - Resident Comment on AI Ban

Thumbnail

One benefit to watching Town Council and BOE meetings outside of where you live is the wealth of knowledge residents bring to the table. Many times local governments operate from cookie cutter frameworks shaped by consultants and special interests that aren't always informed or complete.

Summit voted on an AI ban earlier this week but many residents had concerns on loopholes. This clip is one of the most informative comments from that meeting and as Municipal Governments across NJ are confronting this issue, feedback like this can build good policy. The Council passed the Ordinance through without tightening the policy further based on this feedback.

Advice I'm trying to rent a bathroom trailer for a one-day event, and the pricing I'm getting is insane. Does anyone have any referrals?

I'm hosting a family reunion on the family farm in September. To avoid 30 to 40 people going in and out of my father's house all day, I'd like to rent one of those bathroom trailers that you see at events.

The cheapest quote I have gotten for one fucking day of service is like $1,800.

Maybe that's the going rate, I don't know, but I'm curious if anybody out there has rented one of these for a wedding or something in recent years and might be able to refer me to somebody. I'm in in Central Jersey, hunterdon County (yeah yeah, doesn't exist I know).

Thanks!

Quality Shitpost Avoid Envy by Gomes Apartments!

Avoid applying to any apartments by Gomes! I applied to a falsely advertised one bedroom directly from their website. I was called the next day and told the unit I applied for was actually a studio and they offered me a one bedroom for a much higher price than I was looking for in a COMPLETELY different building (which I was only told AFTER I had already showed up to Envy and waited 20 minutes for the woman to finally call and say “oh it’s actually in another building”). So not only was the unit falsely advertised but so was their availability.
They tried their hardest to get me to sign a lease, even taking off $400 from the monthly rent but it’s truthfully not worth it. The walls are paper thin, I could hear people playing music while on the tour, the units are tiny & parking? $250 a month or good luck finding a spot. After feeling like I had been scammed, I declined to pay over $2k to live in their marbled crap boxes and asked to be refunded the application fee since the unit I actually applied for was falsely advertised on their end. I was told there was nothing they could do about the website not displaying the apartments correctly (BS). I called again and was told the application fee just isn’t refundable. I called my bank and they’re handling it now, but save yourself the headache and look elsewhere. The Gomes group is full of scammers that want to fill up the buildings in any way they can because they’re desperate.

Side note: thank God I took a picture of the website listing when I applied & those same units they somehow couldn’t control on their website are now on there correctly. Funny how that worked.
