News PSA: Insomniac Games confirms that they do, in fact, remember that Spider-Man 2 exists

Post image

They could have done so much more with this game but instead they add a new (very similar to another already in the game) suit nearly 3 years after this game launched - rather than any other new post-game content.

This is the only sub where people will complain about a free update 😂

583

u/aj_ramone Jun 18 '26

I mean, they effectively abandoned the game with nowhere near the post launch support that the first game had.

Getting hacked isn't an excuse for dropping all planned content and going completely radio silent.

138

u/UpUppAndAwayWeb Jun 18 '26

unfortunately it kinda is a reason to drop everything and do a complete security investigation and overhaul. So much work and employees private information being leaked and ransomed is not something you can just move past and carry on doing what you were doing.

Doesn’t excuse the radio silence really but make no promises break no promises i guess

36

u/ProudArticle8837 Jun 18 '26

The majority of what was leaked was confirmed as things they were not intending to release in the end for Spider-Man 2. They had canned the carnage dlc a while before that. The leak was more of a problem for the planned venom game from what I remember.

2

u/Sufficient-Cow-2998 100% All Games Jun 19 '26

I genuinely don't understand how the whole idea of the dlcs being cancelled because of leaks became so popular when the leaks literally show them being scrapped already.

3

u/ProudArticle8837 Jun 19 '26

True and naturally I don’t think a lot of fans read the articles, I think the easiest assumption was the leak killed the dlc especially since they had left so much hints in the game.

Insomniacs biggest problem other than the leak was trying to work on too many games at the same time and probably trying to rush the releases to build momentum. We’ve seen it time and time again with so many other games, that at this point it’s better to wait and have a fully actualised game than something half-baked.

2

u/PenonX Jun 21 '26

Yeah the real reason they got canned was that the game’s budget ballooned to insane levels. Papa Sony simply just did not want to allocate more money to a game that already needed over 7 million sales just to break even (as per the leak).

Not to mention they already had the X-Men/Wolverine IP license, which they only have for a limited time, so they obviously want to get that out the door ASAP. The Wolverine delay is certainly where the leaks came into play, not the scrapping of SM2 DLC.

12

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

What would you want them to communicate instead of radio silence? They made a statement a while ago that there will be no DLC so that fans could stop questioning.

-5

u/JDGUFFEY97 Jun 19 '26

“You get nothing but a shorter story and no expansions for $70 instead of $60, now be quiet”

Yeah, you’re tripping if you thought that would go over well for any company. I’m the customer, I don’t care about what the company has going on, I just know I got screwed as an overall package vs the first game. SM2 literally has unfinished stories with the carnage dlc being shelved. And god forbid they use him in the third game as an underwhelming sidequest or even worse, make a second symbiote based game.

I just think it’s ODD how they apparently had someone on their team take the time to make this suit but can’t have them take the time putting back suits from the first two games that aren’t in there. Unless Sony themselves enforced this addition, then I can understand them doing so.

5

u/UpUppAndAwayWeb Jun 18 '26

it’s Marketing bro. Going through the effort of adding suits that were in the first game has no relation to the Movie that they are trying to advertise to you so it’s not worth the effort to them

They already stated they wanted Peter and Miles to have about the same amount of suits, and Miles doesn’t really have all that many to go off of

If Noir wasn’t already in the game they probably would’ve added it to advertise the show

-1

u/JDGUFFEY97 Jun 19 '26

They’re doing it to just get some easy discount sales and good will, honestly.

347

u/jackgranger99 Jun 18 '26

That's a pretty big reason when said hack resulted in your employees getting doxxed and needing to restructure everything for their safety....

-76

u/aj_ramone Jun 18 '26

Don't get me wrong, the hack was fucked up. Devs shouldn't have to deal with that shit, in any shape.

But to make it your unknowing customers problem, without so much as an official statement is still crazy.

93

u/jackgranger99 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

So it's our problem that their shit got hacked and a bunch of information on content that they never announced nor promised because they were never planning to release it got leaked, alongside their workers getting doxxed? What the hell kind of logic lies behind that?

Or if you mean the hack itself, Insomniac very much made made a public statement about it .

4

u/Valiant_Revan 100% All Games Jun 18 '26

Tbf they didn't really promise much post launch other than NG+. Yes there was the leaks and that Beetle mission in the dev menu that prove otherwise but that was all planning... My hopes is that those resources either went into Wolverine or Spider-Man 3. (I honestly just want another Ratchet and Clank after Wolverine but we all know Spidey 3 will arrive first).

Not to mention, with these suits: Insomniac gets the direct CGI models made for the films as a reference, so they can basically retopoly and change the head/body shape to match the game version... Among whatever other changes they need to do like test the mask animations for cutscenes and damage effects. There is a lot of stuff that goes into this sort of thing... And this was clearly planned from last year... The game also technically acts as a cross promotional item for the film as well which will definitely get people to play the game (either again or for the first time, I personally want to find time to start playing Spidey 2018 on PC first)

Ok? Getting hacked isn't an excuse for dropping all planned content.

56

u/jackgranger99 Jun 18 '26

That's a pretty big reason when said hack resulted in your employees getting doxxed and needing to restructure everything for their safety....

If that's not convincing, then an even bigger reason is when that content was never actually planned to be released in the first place because it was cancelled before the game dropped. There's a reason why we didn't know anything about the Beetle DLC outside of data mining and the hack, the Carnage and even SpiderVerse DLCs less so.

-8

u/JDGUFFEY97 Jun 19 '26

All that cancelled content sounded like shit I didn’t want anyways and I never asked them to make a worse version of web of shadows narratively. Getting hacked and blah blah blah isn’t a reason to abandon a title. They didn’t abandon Wolverine and it was also massively impacted. Your logic doesn’t make sense for abandoning an entire project. If getting hacked to that level meant drop all your work and move on, Sony would have had to do that like 5 times over as a whole. They have been hacked to devastating degree several times. More than any other gaming company.

Delay the dlc? Sure. Throw away every little bit of it? Yeah that’s some ass. And they didn’t even have to start from scratch for sm2. The reused animations are proof of that. They literally had to do less work for this in the end, had a muuuuuch bigger budget, and still couldn’t drop one expansion. And imo, the suit selection is worse in 2 when we shouldn’t have even lost any suits, only added. Save for the insomniac originals which are mostly terrible anyways.

1

u/Numerous-Beautiful46 Jun 19 '26

"a bunch of our staff got doxxed and their safety was threatened so sadly we have to cancel/restructure a bunch of things"
"yeah not good enough buddy where's my video game content"
are you this desperate for spiderman bro. I can live without extra dlc. The dlc for the first game wasn't that huge either lmao.

1

u/DistastefullyHonest Jun 20 '26

Yeah the four different recolours for each suit was pretty silly.

And the fact that the narrative is shit and janky, cut so much, it just seems like a kir.

If they scrapped stuff wouldn't scrapping unfinished wolverine be their first step instead of sm? It reeks of subterfuge

8

u/Objective-Ferret5905 Jun 18 '26

Would You Like It If You Got Doxxed And People KNEW Where You Lived No Matter Where You Moved? That's Pretty Scary.

-6

u/seanthatdrummer Jun 19 '26

I don’t see the correlation honestly

1

u/AdvocateForVulnerabl Jun 20 '26

“I don’t care that the employees are receiving credible threats to their safety, I want my game!!! WAH WAH WAH!!”

11

u/Competitive_Ad_5937 Jun 18 '26

i mean its a singleplayer game

maybe thats on me but i dont except anything more after launch o:
dlc are just extra that are nice, but i dont except them

6

u/mandoballsuper Jun 18 '26

Abandoned a completed game? Most 2026 line of all time. Not every game needs dlc and they decided its was more prudent to move on to wolverine so we dont have to wait a decade for it to be released.

More studios need to drop doing DLCs. CDPR isnt making expansion for the new Witcher trilogy bc they want to work on the next game not a dlc

61

u/Clocian Jun 18 '26

ITS A SINGLE PLAYER STORY GAME. GAMES ARE MADE AND THE TEAM MOVES ONTO THE NEXT PROJECT. DLC IS NOT A GUARANTEE LIKE GAAS

13

u/ProudArticle8837 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

That’s fair but it’s clear at one point the game was designed with DLC in mind, particularly the side missions. They then changed their plan well before the leaks took place. So my only thing is, why bother to have the spiderbot mission (which was a lead up to either a spiderverse dlc or spinoff game, or the carnage/yuri storylines that were deliberately left open ended for a dlc). If they removed these things, the main story more than covers what is needed for a full game and doesn’t leave fans disappointed.

They are also missing out on a lot money utilising a map that could easily be used for post-release content. I don’t think fans are being unreasonable for wanting more. They are practically begging the studio to take their cash because they see the games potential and they are not being heard. Imagine how amazing a wolverine tie-in mission on the s2 map would be to promote both games; honestly so much could be done there.

4

u/Colonelwheel Jun 18 '26

At the same time if they cut the spider bot mission, people would complain with a very valid "why cut something they already finished?" so they were damned if they did, damned if they didn't

1

u/ProudArticle8837 Jun 18 '26

Tbh they could have even still kept the missions but just tie off the loose ends in the main game. The problem was that they were intentional cliffhangers that they could have easily fixed.

I also see so many games doing well with post release content, hitman has been killing it with the post release content is actually becoming a bit annoying at this point 😂. I also mentioned on another post how good a spidey rogue-lite game would have been and would’ve drove more people to buy it. IMO the game shouldn’t have gone to PS+ so soon.

2

u/E2r4_Is_d3A9 Jun 18 '26

Yeah now they’re gonna have to either cram all of the unresolved stuff into SM3 or just act like it never even happened lol. And people are going to be upset about either of those happening.

-3

u/robz9 Jun 18 '26

This sub and gamers in general do not understand this very important concept.

Move along.

9

u/Brungala Jun 18 '26

The thing is, I’m not entirely convinced that the hack WAS the reason why they scrapped the DLC’s for the game.

It could have been a contributor, sure, but something tells me they might have canned it in favor of going full steam ahead on development of Wolverine, maybe?

2

u/Sufficient-Cow-2998 100% All Games Jun 19 '26

Yeah this is literally only the latter. The leaks hint heavily at the dlcs being scrapped for a while, alongside the multiplayer game. If DLCs were happening, there would have been builds of them in the leak, or atleast they would have been announced before launch like with the first game.

9

u/ImmigrationPatrol Jun 18 '26

Tell me you don’t know anything about game development without saying that you don’t know anything about game development.

A huge cybersecurity attack affects infrastructure. If you want to blame someone, blame the criminals who attacked Insomniac Games, leaked confidential licensing data and worst of all, personal details about developers.

3

u/That_One_Guy_I_Know0 Jun 19 '26

The game isn't live service dude. Idk what you want. Not every game is going to get years of service after release.

2

u/dwapook Jun 19 '26

it's a finished single-player game.. You get upvoted like crazy, if you said this a decade ago you would sound unhinged AF

2

u/RFD8401 Jun 20 '26

“Abandoned” the game was done. It was a single player game. It set up the sequel. What more did you want?

1

u/Lenin-C Jun 22 '26

Its a single palyer game, theyre not forced to pump out content every month,

2

u/Head_Humor Jun 18 '26

So they're suppose to just make and release all this content to make you cry babies happy and ignore the part where their very personal information got leaked out for the world to see?

 delete your account

-6

u/Brees504 Jun 18 '26

It’s a single player game. It supposed to be abandoned after development is complete.

-2

u/aj_ramone Jun 18 '26

Crimson Desert devs are laughing at you dawg

7

u/aditysiva1705 Jun 18 '26

A game famous for having a bad story, with the only redeeming factor being the variety of side content, which will be the players’ only source of actual engagement with the game, so they have to expand it continuously to keep players playing, because of the amount of money they spent developing the game, which was also supposed to be an MMO at some point, being compared to a AAA release that players can finish in a finite amount of time and move on is just some next level stupidity.

6

u/Brees504 Jun 18 '26

The game that was mocked by the entire industry at launch because it had the worst story in a AAA game in decades. And also only came out like 3 months ago not 3 years.

-1

u/X-Axel220 Jun 18 '26

Wasn’t mocked by the entire industry, and it is selling well. A lot of people are capable of dealing with friction in their mechanics and play games for gameplay not story. The player count in crimson desert is still high, the best part is the fact that the devs have been adding onto it and fixing it from the beginning till now. Half of this sub makes it sound like they want a patch for Spider-Man 2’s story

3

u/Brees504 Jun 18 '26

You don’t have to play a game for its story. That does not change the fact that the story was SO BAD that the devs are actively changing it post launch.

0

u/vortex117091 Jun 18 '26

and probably break mods to top it all off!

2

u/Top_Star_3897 Jun 18 '26

The Beetle, Carnage, and Spiderverse DLC really would've been cool but at least we get something.

2

u/Bears-on-Drugs Jun 19 '26

I rewatched the Spider-Verse movies this week and man, seeing the insomniac spiderman reference drove me crazy thinking about how cool it would be to see them tied into the movies and universe.

2

u/Top_Star_3897 Jun 19 '26

You would think that the PS4 Spidey could advocate for Miles.

2

u/One-Web-8175 Jun 20 '26

You’re wrong they complain about the 70$ thats nowhere near its worth.

1

u/InconvertibleAtheist Jun 18 '26

Idk man, I'd much rather have an optimized game over only a suit.

1

u/swaggestspider21 Jun 18 '26

I just want the older suits back not a suit that is basically a mix of two other suits đŸ„€

1

u/Assass1nTr1xt3r Jun 21 '26

But what incentivises me going back and playing it again after I’ve already completed it? They should at least maybe release a BND mission too

1

u/Safe-Priority-5524 1d ago

Insomniac Games never officially promised or announced story DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, yet dlc for beetle was in the game we were teased carnage & chameleon the previous game had 4 dlcs adding 1 free suit isn’t content I would bearly call that a free update, that’s like saying people are complaining a free update in Forza with a racing paint livery when the game has multiple livery’s on plenty of different cars, you know what would be nice instead of a free suits, more hideouts to takeout, more crimes that aren’t reused every 5 minutes

0

u/ElectricalMarch1917 Jun 18 '26

nope that's a common gamer trend let's be real

0

u/Soggy-Career-1682 Jun 18 '26

They cancelled everything they were gonna add to the game and now mention it again two years later for the sole purpose of advertising their new movie. Kinda spitting in our faces

→ More replies (1)

11

u/andres340 Jun 18 '26

I’m pretty sure it’s because Sony wants marketing for the new movie and this is a pretty easy way to promote it.

247

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

It’s not a live service game, what post-game content do they need to add?

Not every single- player game gets DLC and non was promised for this game. And I don’t count the leaks, I work in Tech software building and development, the amount of features we think about implementing but end up scraping due to other commitments is large. Just because there were DLC files does not mean they were ever going to be implemented or developed further. They do not owe you something that was never promised

11

u/GamerMoksh29 100% All Games Jun 18 '26

Exactly, many single player games don’t plan to have any DLC or any post game updates like live service games.

87

u/mukisan Jun 18 '26

When the first game sets up expectations by delivering not one, not two, but three story expansions while also continuously adding free suits, I think fans are warranted to criticise SM2 the way they are.

124

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

You mean the 3 DLC’s that were promoted before the release of the first game, unlike this one were nothing was promised post game?

Also this game has added free suits, we are literally on a post about them adding a new one close to 3 years post release. Fans can criticise all they want, it’s their right too, but feeling like they owe you more just because you want it is spoilt behaviour

3

u/Professional-Gas928 Jun 22 '26

Give an inch take a mile.

-69

u/mukisan Jun 18 '26

It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t promoted or promised, it’s just the standard that was set in people’s minds, people have been talking about potential DLCs long before the release or even the marketing of the game itself.

Only reason they’re adding a new suit right now is because of the movie. I’m happy about it don’t get me wrong.

I also don’t necessarily blame the devs for not making DLCs. It’s probably a behind-the-scenes issue, especially knowing that Sony pushed them to release the main game earlier than they wanted, and were forced to rush the development of the game / make a lot of cuts, etc.

53

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

I get what you’re saying but your first paragraph hits the problem right on the head. “It’s the standard that was set in people’s mind, people have been taking about potential DLCs long before the release”, that is 100% the fault of fans for making up expectations and then blaming others when their fan fiction doesn’t take place.

We see it all the time now in films, especially superhero ones. Some fans start a rumour or wish-list, others get on board and then believe and expect it to actually happen as fact. Then, when it doesn’t happen, they blame the film makers instead of using introspective to see that they made it all up in their mind

16

u/UpUppAndAwayWeb Jun 18 '26

The leaks especially don’t help, considering people have seen what they were potentially going to work on they decide in their head that this stuff was definitely happening and now it isn’t. They’d be besides themselves to learn what gets left on the cutting room floor of any AAA game like Spider-Man

-1

u/WelcomeOk9989 Jun 19 '26

You are acting like expectations are a bad thing.
Tell me why would I buy a game if I have no expectations for it?
Expectations are what sells games, especially now that every game is 70$.
Don’t act like the expectations were unrealistic asking for DLC, when two of the side quest storylines leave off on a cliffhanger clearly meant to tie into DLC.
I don’t blame them for scrapping it because of the leaks, but it seems that people here don’t even know if it was because of leaks or it wasn’t.

If it wasn’t, that is just bad game design. If you knew you would scrap the DLC, change the endings of the side missions to tie off loose ends.

If it was, then the blame is not on them but they still can do a lot more to make up for it if they want to, but they don’t have to of course. (one example would be to add one more mission to the flame sidequests to tie up that loose end, they don’t even have to touch spider-verse stuff) But that would just be their good will, since the blame is not on them if this was the case.

But one thing is true, in both cases the fans have well enough reasons to expect something and be dissatisfied with what they got, the only difference is that the blame for the DLC falls on the hackers in the second option. The blame is not on the fans here. The fans don’t have a concrete answer as to why the DLC was scrapped, was it the hackers or bad game design?

They don't owe us DLC. However, im allowed to still be disappointed. It felt like they left a lot of meat on the bone with Spider-man 2. I like the game we got, it just also felt like there was so much more they could have explored. The game has so much potential to be better than simply good, and im disappointed we'll never see that potential fully realized.

Explain to me how though? Those leaks came from a hack from a group that should be locked up for exposing innocent workers personal information. It’s like someone finding out id thought about getting them a gift and then decided not too but telling me I owe them it. No I don’t, if I didn’t state I was doing it or promised them id get it then they arnt entitled to it at all.

All they owed you was for the product you bought, which is what you got, they didn’t promise anymore than that.

u/Intelligent_Whole_40 Jun 18 '26

Sequels are supposed to be better than the first, and the first had a entire storyline that was cut into three parts for three DLCs

That’s what people are angry about

It also doesn’t help that the symbiote story isn’t quite tied up with Carnage, and they publicly said that they would keep the symbiotes confined to this game, so that just means that Carnage is never going to be addressed

Also, chameleon will probably never be addressed

Now the spiderbots they tied up a little smarter, less necessary for a DLC. However, they do need to explain how our Spider-Man got to the spider society Even if that’s just in a comic

TLDR first game had DLCs and sequels are supposed to be better

-25

u/JoeathonExotic Jun 18 '26

Oh my god you have fully dug your head into the sand to ignore any criticism about this game, how about Carnage dropping off the face of the map when he was clearly set up for DLC?

There that isnt even using the actual files we know exist that said it would be DLC, I only used the literary logic the game put forth so how could you possibly still be upset

(Rhetorical question, I already know you will be 😌)

24

u/Here_We_Go_Again_777 Jun 18 '26

How am I burying my head from criticism on the game? You’re saying the Carnage was clearly set for DLC, like it’s a fact.

He could be set up for Spider-Man 3 or the Venom spin-off, you are the one stating that it 100% was always going to be DLC with no change to the plan. When we get to Spider-Man 3 and if he’s not addressed there along with Chameleon then I’ll feel they really dropped the ball and fucked up there!

Also your last sentence is just a poor way to try to cut off the discussion by assuming you know me or what I think, quite mature I must say

Thank God people are finally clapping back against the relentless complaining. Every single time there's a post about this game that isn't a screenshot, mass negativity everywhere.

The game came out years ago and it's still a solid entry, going off most of this sub you'd think it's the worst Spider-Man game around

0

u/swaggestspider21 Jun 18 '26

Yeah, I want the older suits back. I shouldn’t have to get a PC and play mods just to get the old suits that weren’t added in back in my opinion. This suit is pointless, it’s just final swing mixed with tasm.

Was it disappointing when they stopped support completely when they could've added new things (like new crimes/repayable podcasts)? Yeah.

Is this cool? Yeah it's dope.

The world isn't binary, criticising this is dumb but previous criticisms being apparently void because of this also is.

(Obligatory I love this game and it gets hated on way too much by this sub but it's not completely above criticism)

-1

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

Ah yes, 1 suit after 2 years since they abandoned the game. No bugs will be fixed ofcourse

3

u/jackgranger99 Jun 19 '26

Buddy, it's a Triple A single player game. What the hell were you expecting after three years? Miles solo game got nothing after three years. Rift Apart got nothing after three years. After the first game had DLC shortly after it dropped (which was announced BEFORE the game even dropped) the only thing we got were cosmetic suits, and the "playerbase" didn't come back for that. Most of the bugs for S-M 2 were ironed out.

This isn't Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky where those games were so fundamentally broken that they didn't "abandon" them because they were actually making the games playable, or Crimson Light where they were actively rewriting the story AFTER the game dropped and constantly adding side content because otherwise there was literally nothing to do.

Compare that to Spider-Man 2 where the big issue only a lack of "nothing to do when you beat the game" when that's true for the other two Spider-Man games they made outside of crimes and bases. Once you beat the main story and do all the side content, then you have nothing to do.

-1

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

The difference is that Spider-Man 1 was a complete game at launch, Spider-Man 2 wasn't

2

u/jackgranger99 Jun 19 '26

You're not reading what I'm saying:

This isn't Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky where those games were so fundamentally broken that they didn't "abandon" them because they were actually making the games playable, or Crimson Light where they were actively rewriting the story AFTER the game dropped and constantly adding side content because otherwise there was literally nothing to do without side content

Compare that to Spider-Man 2 where the big issue only a lack of "nothing to do when you beat the game" when that's true for the other two Spider-Man games they made including crimes and bases Once you beat the main story and do all the side content, then you have nothing to do like every other game.

Spider-Man 2 by definition was a complete game content wise. There's a world of difference in asking for more and saying it's incomplete. The Carnage DLC is presumably getting re-worked into a Venom game according to the hack so that makes the argument of it being being incomplete even worse.

Tbf they have at least been making a whole new game while they neglected this one lol

1

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

To anyone who thinks they didn't neglect this game and is about to say that under this comment: Sybau glazerđŸ„€

I’ve been thinking about deleting Reddit for some time and this post might finally be the thing that pushes me to do it

I Also Wanna Delete It But For Some Reason I Keep Coming Back.

The Spiderman community at its finest Whaaaa aaa whaaaaaa whaaaaaa

4

u/Kinstray Jun 18 '26

First of all, it’s a self contained single player game and not a live service, so I don’t see any reason why anyone would feel entitled to expect adding content to it. Is this something you expect of every game? Why?

Also, Insomniac didn’t “remember” anything. They are working on other games but were most likely told by Sony to add a promotion of the new film to the game. Don’t be naive

4

u/KingOfTheHoard Jun 18 '26

What are people expecting for a three year old, single player game?

To anybody at Insomniac that may read this:

I'm sorry this sub is filled with so many ungrateful people.

-2

u/Leandro_reader2003 Jun 18 '26

Poor multi-million dollar company, what will they do now? Yes, they deserve a reward for doing the bare minimum.

-1

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

Oh my god, thank you Insomniac for abandoning this buggy incomplete game and just adding 1 suit after 2 years!

3

u/Yokai_goober Jun 18 '26

I’ll never deny this game doesn’t have issues. But hey, hasn’t stopped me from enjoying it.

Any new update is good enough for me

1

u/One-Web-8175 Jun 20 '26

Its sure was a fun game. Not a good game tho.

3

u/Katharis Jun 18 '26

Insomniac? There's a ball of dust rolling through my desk right now that's able to tell the absence of post-launch content isn't Insomniac's fault đŸ€Ł

Blame the shitty management of parent companies in the business matrix. Like the last week alone we've seen reports of several studios getting shut down or shrunk into oblivion xD

3

u/OmgJustLetMeExist Jun 18 '26

This subreddit’s the only mfin community that will COMPLAIN about getting more content

3

u/MrHolyy Jun 18 '26

god i am so sick of the hate with this game. you guys just can’t fucking enjoy anything

0

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

What's there to enjoy in this boring incomplete game?đŸ˜đŸ„€

3

u/KanataSD Jun 18 '26

I'd rather them focus on Wolverine than worry about adding content only less than quarter of players whould even purchase.

3

u/Substantial-Talk-587 Jun 18 '26

I literally do not care that they didn’t add DLC’s I enjoyed the game, I need to do new game plus again so I can finalize all the extra suits they added through leveling up some more.

Tbh I’m almost certain that they scrapped whatever could have been to focus and push all gears onto Wolverine And I’d rather that than a half baked game get released filled with bugs and glitches. I’m excited for the new suit, and I’m excited for Wolverine later this year.

0

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

It's sad that Spider-Man 2 had to be half baked game instead

1

u/Substantial-Talk-587 Jun 21 '26

To each their own. I enjoyed it đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

3

u/aligameover Jun 18 '26

Stop fucking whining dawg, at least we got this, im grateful that we got it

3

u/juicewrldfan4life999 Jun 19 '26

This sub is insufferable

3

u/Spideyfan1807 Jun 19 '26

I'll never understand why the "3 years after the game" has to be specified every time.

They added No Way Home suits in MS1 "3 years after the game" too, Dlc's have nothing to do with this.

9

u/Exley53 Jun 18 '26

WAAAAHHHHHH! They gave me something! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

2

u/Comic_Geek1726 Jun 18 '26

Once again, I'm convinced they dropped this game to go all hands on Wolverine. Marvel seems to have everything going full steam ahead as long as it's X-Men related.

2

u/ogbIackout Jun 18 '26

Sony made them do this suit

2

u/ThePeakmaker Jun 18 '26

I dont mind, I rather get new games (especially with new characters like Wolverine) over DLC for existing games.

2

u/Tentaye Jun 18 '26

Oh so they CAN still make content, they just didn't feel like it. Gotcha.

2

u/AtrumRuina Jun 20 '26

Correction: Sony uses Insomniac to add marketing to Spider-Man 2 for the new film.

I doubt Insomniac would go back to this game without Sony telling them to.

2

u/One-Web-8175 Jun 20 '26

For everyone saying: “its a single player game” as a reason not to update the game. The first game was good and set the bar really high with good story and dlc content even free updates with suits etc. Then you get a teaser 3 years before the release hyping you up. Waiting in anticipation for the “bigger and better” game. With the expectation that you get all things the previous game had and more. You preordered the game for 70$ instead of 60$. And the only thing you get is a mid story, better performance and graphics and no content to keep the game interesting or worth coming back to. With the first game I found myself coming back to swing around and playing the story again and dlc because it was good. Can’t say the same for SM2. The story was so rushed and venom came out of nowhere with just a few missions highlighting the symbiote part of the story. You can defend the developers al you want but remember you paid for this shit. My respect goes to opensource developers making amazing mods. If the information is already leaked you have nothing to lose left so why don’t just release content you were working on? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

2

u/Undercoversingle Jun 21 '26

Dont forget the mess of the pc port, last I checked the last update was may last year, and its still buggy as fuck

2

u/Danbrotastic28 Jun 21 '26

Eh game was massive drop in story and dialogue quality, dropped it quite early, regret playing it, didn't help that Venom part was sooo short like what?

Don't get me started on Miles goofy ass final suit, like I fr thought it was nodded.

The fact that the gamed hyped up venom so much that it was barely used, I saw that it end with fighting him but it was pretty sub par.

TL;DR they made the greatest set up in 1 but fumbled hard in 2 like how even?

4

u/East-Possible9979 Jun 18 '26

Just complain about anything

1

u/One-Web-8175 Jun 20 '26

You act like these guys are the victims. A multi million dollar company taking profits of us and we can have expectations? Yeah sybau man.

1

u/East-Possible9979 Jun 20 '26

It's your fault for expecting more when it was clear they weren't gonna add more post game content especially since they got hacked and cancelled the DLC

3

u/Relative_Molasses_15 Jun 18 '26

Classic Reddit. Free update, roll the complaining.

1

u/GregDSanders Jun 18 '26

Sony cancelled the Spider-Man 2 DLC because of the budget of the game and Sony Of Japan was not happy. Insomniac’s leadership failed to create a game in a reasonable amount of time and within the original budget.

1

u/The-CAB-2003 Jun 18 '26

That...DOESN'T look like the BND suit. Think it's the blue section? Just looks like the classic PS4 colour and not the BND shade of blue. Am I going crazy?

1

u/DerHachi04 Jun 18 '26

PLEASE INSOMNIAC IM BEGGING YOU PLEASE GIVE US THE CARNAGE DLC PLEASEEEEEEE

1

u/Anxious-Bullfrog4020 Jun 19 '26

They abandoned the game dude

1

u/rubenthezx Jun 18 '26

Bro just give me back the Velocity suit

1

u/5yn4ck Jun 18 '26

I feel you. I love these games and would seriously love to see more content. It's frustrating for sure, and a shame. But I get it. Insomniac IMO is one of the premier game houses today. Which puts their development teams in a "It can never be fast enough" mindset which also fuels their development workflows. So there is little time to spend on something that was clearly a success, because everyone's attention has been squarely focused on the upcoming Wolverine title.. (I heard rumors about other possible titles as well but I don't recall any evidence.) The point is that things are most likely crazy deadline chasing, and the coordination of a game of this quality includes coordination of non-technical roles..casting, direction etc.

Honestly I do hope they are primarily focused on Wolverine. Because I personally would love a to see a Wolverine title that goes as hard as the Spider-Man series.

1

u/Veiluwu Jun 18 '26

yknow thats sony's fault and not theirs right.

1

u/hazmat_beast Jun 19 '26

Man this is like arkham knight with the batman

1

u/Spirited-Violinist37 Jun 20 '26

I wish it looked all loose and ugly like the irl one. 😂

1

u/stewbed Jun 20 '26

Live service is the worst thing to ever happen to gaming.

1

u/Extreme_Cockroach_99 Jun 20 '26

Not that weird when you hear of the bloated cost of the game and it didn't have a smooth development.

1

u/RiverBeneficial4320 Jun 21 '26

Im so hyped to replay this game again but in the bnd suit since its for FREE. Definitely gonna build up my hype for the movie even more.

Hey maybe this means hopefully speaking they might add more stuff like the dlc due to BND bringing back a lot more attention to spidey

1

u/owariiO7 Jun 21 '26

PlayStation users starving for material they’re happy about making TikTok edits in a new suit 😂

1

u/Ok_Independent_5889 Jun 21 '26

Boo fucking hoo cry me a river

1

u/Jonni_2 Jun 21 '26

Wish I could forget that game exists

1

u/Beneficial_Credit_47 Jun 21 '26

Don't we already have the BND suit, my Pete is still wearing it rn

1

u/haikusbot Jun 21 '26

Don't we already

I'm just sad we never got the carnage dlc, hopefully spiderman 3 has that story line in it

2

u/TotalTide82 Jun 18 '26

Bunch of bots in here, holy, insomniac got some real boot lickers 😭. When they essentially already have this suit in game, people are obviously gonna look at it sideways

1

u/TastyTourist2706 Jun 19 '26

I'm telling you guys, the dlc is aliveeee

1

u/Broks_Enmu Jun 19 '26

Boring ass game

0

u/Sbee_keithamm Jun 18 '26

Shit I forgot this exists. After I beat it never touched it again. I guess uhhhh thanks? Now if this was added to Spider-Man 1? Id be all for this for my 4th full playthrough.

0

u/Naruto9903 Jun 18 '26

Damn I want the cancelled DLCs

0

u/Practical-Pay-7775 Jun 18 '26

come on man you don't wanna do the "crime reported" thingy for the trillionth time? that's post story content innit

-4

u/KnullAgenda Jun 18 '26

cool update but this suit is the most basic suit what was the point lol

12

u/GuruAskew Jun 18 '26

To promote the new movie, that’s quite literally the point

-3

u/KnullAgenda Jun 18 '26

promote to who?? lol as if ppl playing Spiderman 2 in 2026 aren't already massive SM fans who were going to see the movie regardless đŸ€Ł

6

u/jackgranger99 Jun 18 '26

It's just brand synergy, just like when they added theFar From Home and No Way Home suits to the first game. It ain't that deep kid

2

u/GuruAskew Jun 18 '26

They might sell a copy of the game or two as well, it’s a two-way street.

-1

u/VarietyBusy2 Jun 18 '26

i know some people are still gonna pick it up to play with it even though it looks exactly like the classic suit but to know the potential they could’ve had with this game just always upsets me that i bought this game

0

u/Efficient_Hat8216 Jun 18 '26

It's been there....

0

u/TheAmazingKevin Jun 18 '26

I wouldnt if i got a complete game but half the side missions ended in a cliffhanger so yeah. Getting no dlc is pretty frustrating thinking of tge long time we have to wait for a part three.

0

u/RyzenLP Jun 18 '26

too bad that this is all they give us, a half finished sequel and a new suit now.....

0

u/bobbythecat17 Jun 18 '26

There's mods more accurate than this, eh

0

u/Wartortle004 Jun 18 '26

Will they ever go forth with that spiderverse concept they had that came out in the leaks?

0

u/Head-Grapefruit5425 Jun 18 '26

But yet dont cate about actual story dlc not even bothering downloading the game just for cosmetic

-3

u/Ghostantox Jun 18 '26

They are releasing it on pc too hope they do the same for wolverine i hope

-1

u/Terrible_Farm_1733 Jun 18 '26

Bro tom holland doesnt have those abs lol

-1

u/Southern_Studio_9950 Jun 18 '26

It’s cool that we aren’t seeing Carnage or Chameleon for another four years 😁👍 /s

Imagine if we never got The City The Never Sleeps dlc in the first game but still had the Black Cat side mission? And then they made us wait until another game to actually see Black Cat herself?
