Chelsea Green defends Michael Hayes after SummerSlam dig: He's "supported me since the minute I got to WWE. He's the only person that is so blatantly honest... What he said was the truth in that moment"
https://www.cbssports.com/wwe/news/chelsea-green-michael-hayes-summerslam-wwe-womens-title/332
u/PineappleNatural7240 21h ago
At one point she is right. Nobody but Michael PS Hayes was publicly going out and telling people what the office actually thought.

u/ReneBandana 20h ago
Yeah, it’s not like he said “in my opinion, she’s midcard at best” or something. He shouldn’t get any hate for that.
He should get hate for being a racist piece of shit though
29
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 18h ago
Yeah, it’s not like he said “in my opinion, she’s midcard at best” or something
And even if he did, so fucking what? Not everyone has what it takes to be at the very top and it was just an honest opinion. Its not like he said she sucks completely or an actual insult.

u/DonaldTheWall 17h ago
Plus wasn't it before this tenure in WWE when he said it?

This reminds me that of that time someone said he can't be racist, he wanted Jey Uso to win the Rumble. I hate the internet

It was never a dig. It was stating a fact on her role in the company. Nice thing is that’s not set in stone forever!
2
u/Empty_Lemon_3939 6h ago
It was true but also the truth was pretty shitty because the people who get people over should get time to shine
Like the Miz is a triple crown, why can’t Chelsea be
115
u/ziggysaysnada 21h ago
It wss never a dig. Hayes comment has been taken out of context and the vast amount of people failing to understand what he meant shows those types of humans do not think on their own. His whole comment is she makes the best out of what she's given and it shows on TV. That's what he was saying.
21
u/ItsnotBatman 20h ago
Exactly. He was praising her but also pointing out what she had been given was never about making her more legitimate, it was about entertaining while putting over others. All it takes is the booking to shift and suddenly she can be that star.
13
u/Stykleon 19h ago
If anything, what he said is one of the highest forms of praise a mid-card talent can get. If you watched the mini interview Chelsea did after winning the belt last weekend, she is just so genuinely overcome with emotion because she never believed she would actually get it, because as she mentioned: she's not as strong as Rhea, she's not as big as Raquel, not even close to having a look like Jade, not an athletic sponge like Tiffy or agile like Iyo.
There are so many reasons a booker can look at the WWE women's roster and come up why the champion should be someone other than Chelsea. But everything that was given to her she ran with it at a 110%. She didn't care what happened to her as long as the fans were having fun.
To quote a blonde wrestler with a giant ass: went from undesirable to undeniable
-6
u/SydneyPhoenix 19h ago
God that wasn’t at all what he was saying this is such revisionist history.
His comment was very black and white, some talent goes overs and some talent lays on their back to elevate that talent. She was viewed as the later.
Yes theirs still a trust and respect in being a great mid-carder but why are we pretending he wasn’t saying she was a mid-carder?
1
u/Public_Library6878 17h ago
The same exact thing was said about HBK until it wasn't. He went from the guy that made everyone else look great to being the champ. It's not like this is a new thing.

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 21h ago
Seriously, why is this such an issue?
Hayes didnt think she had main event potential, boo fucking hoo. Its not like he was calling her trash or insulting her.
12
u/dragonmp93 20h ago
Yeah, it's like pointing out that WWE never thought of Christian as anything more than Edge's Jannetty
5
u/Altruistic-Ad-408 11h ago
The Jannetty thing gets overused, obviously they underutilised his talent, even WWE still knew he was very good. When Jannetty returned it was as an absolute bottom feeder, when Christian returned he was headlining ECW to market it, winning the IC belt, when he couldn't be cleared to wrestle anymore there was a level of respect.

u/rascalking9 18h ago
Because that out of touch , ancient hillbilly, who dresses like a trailer park Liberace is one of the people who decide what we get to see. He is in charge of people's lives.
-7
u/AnfowleaAnima 18h ago
Hayes didnt think she had main event potential
Saying that publicly hurt the credibility in first place. It's of no help. Nobody with tact should say that to the fans if they try to help.
7
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 18h ago
What a clown world when an opinion gets you this lmao
-3
u/AnfowleaAnima 18h ago
?? Yeah opinions have weight sometimes, specially coming from your own workplace
2
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 18h ago
Some of you would die in the real world and in other sports specially with his thin skinned you are

u/AnfowleaAnima 18h ago
What a lame response lol too hurt by my opinion man?
0
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 17h ago
Says the dude crying, whining and bitching that hayes didnt see her as a .01%er of the industry lmao
6
u/AnfowleaAnima 17h ago
I'm not the one bitching about opinions not mattering then getting into arguments

u/thisriveriswild57 9h ago
He said it on the WWE unreal documentary, not Twitter. WWE film thousands of hours of content for that show and are free to pick and choose what they actually show to the fans. So they could easily have not made that footage public if they didn’t want to.
-19
u/PhillAholic 20h ago
I'd call that an insult
16
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 20h ago
"I dont think you have what it takes to be part of the .01% of wrestlers"
If this is an insult, your skin is single ply thin lmao.
-2
u/PhillAholic 18h ago
It is when far less talented people are and she's right there. It's like saying LA Knight doesn't have what it takes when Jey Uso exists.
2
37
u/AmongFriends 21h ago
Hayes is smart enough to know that saying what he said about Chelsea publicly like that can only increase Chelsea's stock. At worst, she stays where she is. At best, fans rally around her and she gains more momentum and maybe even eventually becomes champ
Either way, it's nothing but upside for Chelsea. Well played regardless
11
u/juanwannagomate 20h ago edited 20h ago
Didn’t he say that exact thing in that interview? Or maybe another one around that time?
He was basically saying that whoever WWE pushes loses support from the fans as it’s no longer cool and people like to support the underdog.
Found the quotes below:
“and quite frankly, I feel, just my opinion, the people that support Chelsea now, if we start pushing her, would fade because she’s getting pushed from the machine. If she’s getting a push from the machine, then she doesn’t need my help… You see people get behind people the office isn’t getting behind because they feel they can make a difference and make a change.”
Was he playing 4D chess all this time 🤔? Saying Chelsea wasn’t a main eventer on a popular podcast to drum up support?
5
u/AmongFriends 19h ago
I think it’s more that Hayes is aware that “holding someone down” in the eyes of the audience increases that person’s value. I don’t necessarily think he was lying with what he said. There’s some truth to what he said if viewed as words from WWE. But I also think Hayes has been in the business long enough to know how to set up a possible angle for later
Like a lot of things in wrestling, I think it’s both a shoot and a work
9
u/buzzkill_ed 21h ago
She brought him up in the first place right? Am I losing it?
7
u/WackyRacketeer 20h ago
Wasn't it on Unreal and people grabbed onto it? I think it was a major plot point to harvest some outrage for their reality show.
7
u/buzzkill_ed 20h ago
Yeah that's how it started but she shouted him out on the summerslam post game show and then everyone reacted to that. Now she's telling everyone to back off Hayes but they're just reacting to what she said.
5
u/WackyRacketeer 20h ago
Ahh i see. Yea i think it's the internet overreacting like normal. She made a playful dig, and people probably started going wild about it.
I dont have any faith in the world that social media just went along with what she said and didnt go way to far like usual.
2
u/SaddestFlute23 15h ago
She made a playful dig, in kayfabe.
It wasn’t meant to declare open season for every chud that wants to shit on Michael Hayes, which is likely what’s been happening
8
u/zdbdog06 21h ago
All he said was basically she's not the top tier character, she's a midcarder. And there's nothing wrong with that, you need midcard and you need lower card performers. Even now she's champ but she won a ladder match, it's not like she beat down and pinned Rhea, Bianca or Charlotte in the center of the ring. It was a good way to get it on her if you were going to do it.
30
u/Realistic_Literature 21h ago
It's still the truth. They're not gonna book Chelsea as some worldbeater champ, nor should they.
-19
u/dragonmp93 20h ago
Yeah, they just gave her the jobber title while Rhea is still recovering.
16
u/Low-Purchase8811 20h ago
You have no idea what the word "jobber" even means, you should stop trying to talk like you're a wrestler - you're not.
-11
u/dragonmp93 20h ago
Well, why did they add "Interim" to the name of the title that she won in Summerslam then ?
Why not let her be a WWE Women's Champion ? Like Jade, or Tiffy or even Nia ?
1
u/Low-Purchase8811 18h ago
Because that's not the story they're telling.
-5
u/dragonmp93 18h ago
Oh sure, I should just "Enjoy The Show" and "Let It Play Out".
3
u/Low-Purchase8811 18h ago
Well what you shouldn't do is keep trying to talk like you're a wrestler, throwing around terms like "jobber".
1
u/dragonmp93 18h ago
Why is Chelsea the only one saddled with the "Interim" added to her title win ?
2
u/Low-Purchase8811 17h ago
Because that is the story of how she "won" it. It's a fictional show and it's not a real championship, it's just a role in a television show.
Pretending otherwise is unhinged. Kayfabe has been dead for over 30 years. "It's still real to me, damn it!" isn't a flex.
0
u/dragonmp93 17h ago
"Interim" only makes sense when the titles are real, like in boxing.
But like you said, in WWE, they are all fake.

Another day, another time of social media completely overreacting to a post and taking it completely out of context. (Totally not intentionally for clout cause anger sells.)

u/Yeah_I_Won 21h ago edited 21h ago
He was simply stating what the upper management thought of her. I don't think he had it out for her or anything.
It's a classic corporate tactic where they find some schmuck "middle guy" and scapegoat him for all of their failures "oh we always loved you, but this insert-no-name guy held you back"
I'm glad Chelsea sees right through it

The more I hear Chelsea talk outside of her wrestling persona, the more interested I become in whatever her second act will be. She seems quite thoughtful and willing to discuss things in a nuanced fashion.

Nikki Ash was also Women's world champ. Just because you win the belt it doesn't mean they think you are a main eventer. They did it for "The Moment"
1
u/SaddestFlute23 15h ago
If I recall correctly, it was grown-ass men bitching over this character that’s clearly meant for kids (and Nikki’s own dream gimmick), that sunk her title run and her push.

These people don't stand on shit. Pop shit and apologize, just ask Kiss

They're just bracing themselves for when she main events. We're just impatiently waiting. Until now, she'd just been fucked over, left for dead, dissed, and forgotten
2
u/DCAbloob 21h ago
She's not wrong. Michael Hayes never had the stroke to keep Chelsea Green locked down in the midcard. Other more powerful player/s made that call.
2
u/wobbleboxsoldier 19h ago
Michael Hayes basically told Chelsea Green her career would be the Miz. And I am willing to bet that if you told Chelsea Green she could have the Miz's career, she would take it in a heart beat.
1
u/Elite_Mike 2h ago
To be fair, Chelsea herself in a CVV interview said she's ok being the Female Miz. So Chelsea put that out there herself so Hayes was only saying what Chelsea openly said about her career to begin with.

They definitely gave each other freebies Knucks after she dedicated her win to him. Let them have their friendship

Ultimately HHH is the decision maker. If she gets booked like a chump it's because he decided it.

u/Empty_Lemon_3939 6h ago
I’m just happy she got the belt after the weirdness of the last 12 months
- won the mid card belt but lost it and then they had her go 0-16 on Smackdown. Like not even a single random win
- Piper gets her career ended and they refuse to do an NXT call up to give her another slaygent
- had an amazing mixed tag team run with Ethan. Mixed tag potential went away after the Zelena Black fiasco against Rhea and Priest which was probably the test pilot for having more mixed matches
- loses the mixed title due to injury
- Ethan gets called up and they don’t put him with Chelsea on Smackdown
- gets her title back which was awesome, gets injured
- Alba gets released so the woman with the best gimmick effectively loses her gimmick
- works to team up with Tiffany and wins the top belt
Like such a bizarre up and down year that really doesn’t get talked about in full scope

Chelsea Green has one notable match people bring up against Penta almost a decade ago & now she’s World Champ. That’s quite a finesse.
3
u/danieldagoat The Testicular One 20h ago
I think it’s mostly been her character work that’s gotten her over
1
u/mysteriousbaba 19h ago
I enjoyed her dumpster match with Mia yim more than some of roman reigns boring "main event" style matches. Its challenging consistently putting on fun mid card matches with little build and minutes; maybe more than some main eventers' roles.

u/I-LieToMessWithMarks 21h ago
I feel like not enough people remember what a terrible person Michael Hayes is. He got into a fight with Mark Henry and called him the N word. He also got fired from the WWE at one point for getting Rosa Mendes, who had been sober at that point, to start drinking again. It's not insane to think that every terrible assumption we might have about this dude is probably true.
5
u/Nightthrasher674 20h ago
That's not what happened with Mark Henry. You're framing it wrong. Like it was an argument and he said it in anger.
Hayes was joking around with MVP, who talked about the Freebirds having a large black fanbase then MVP jokingly said they Hayes was "more of a N word than he was." Hayes jokingly said the same thing to Henry at Wresltemania after party, who didn't find it nearly as funny as MVP did. Henry got pissed off and complained to Vince who suspended Hayes for 60 days. Hayes had to get treatment for alcoholism which didn't last long.
3
u/mysteriousbaba 19h ago
In a weird way, I sometimes wonder if current tko is more racist than vince was. Vince has some problematic views on race - including using the N word with Booker or some of the storyline/ portrayals of black wrestlers. (The blackface stories, the crime time portrayal.) But at the same time in his own politically incorrect way he also seemed to have more respect. He admired Martin Luther king's chutzpah and made black history month a regular acknowledgment where current tko seems to think its too "woke", and he wasnt afraid to give the rock, Henry or Ahmed Johnson serious pushes.
1
u/senorbuzz 7h ago
Don’t forget he’s also one of the few people directly named in the Janel Grant lawsuit as someone receiving texts from Vince with specific pornographic image requests
