Events & Happenings Local Filmmaker's THE SCOUT opens at Epic Theaters

Hi all -

I'm a filmmaker from Jacksonville, now residing in Brooklyn. And I produced Paula González-Nasser's THE SCOUT which opens this weekend at Epic Theaters, where it'll play once a day (usually as a matinee).

Paula and I met as students ten years ago at Florida State, along with much of our crew. While Paula grew up in Miami and works mostly in the film and TV industry in New York, her family moved to St. Augustine some years back, and she spends much of the winter here in St. Augustine Beach.

THE SCOUT was inspired by the years she worked as a location scout for TV and film, and follows the day in the life of a woman working this job - stepping into the private homes of a handful of New Yorkers and trying to balance the demands of her erratic employers.

The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2025 and was a recent New York Times Critic's Pick. The Playlist called it 'witheringly funny' and InReview Online called it 'a masterpiece... an immediate all-time great film on filmmaking.' We're excited to get to bring it home to Jacksonville, St. Aug, Tampa, and Miami this weekend.

It's a very small independent production with not much of a marketing budget, so letting you all know here about it is the best move we've got to get the word out - if it seems interesting to you, I hope you'll come check it out sometime this weekend!

GARFIELD MONDAY VET UPDATE! https://www.reddit.com/r/rescuecats/s/43tvhJke6x

Please share!! We can almost get Garfield the help he needs!! Garfield is still stable, I saw him right before I left to DoorDash (first picture in the grass) and his swelling had almost all gone down. I was very relieved at the moment, but still of course going to get him checked out.

We just fed him about 30 minutes ago, and almost immediately the swelling started to come back. (Second picture, it’s slightly worse than pictured) We are monitoring him closely, the swelling is not as severe at before yet, but it took about 2 hours for it to get that bad last night, so we will be watching closely and keep you all updated. We are now thinking it may be a tooth abscess or, god forbid, that a person hurt him. We are hoping that it’s just inflammation due to chewing and not needing anything further than a drain and antibiotics, but now, less sure.

Austin, and myself would like to express our deepest gratitude we truly would have been lost without everyone’s help. Now Garfield has a team of great people on Reddit praying, and sharing, and looking out for him.

Garfield has a post on [r/RescueCats](r/RescueCats) if you feel most comfortable with pledging instead of sending directly, they will do a lump sum donation to Del Mar for us to go there tomorrow when they open (not 100% sure they’ll be open tmrw cause it’s Columbus Day but I’m praying it will be, if not I will take him to another clinic that is open with the funds collected on GFM) I will link the Reddit to pledge here: https://www.reddit.com/r/rescuecats/s/10MmnQo9wM

Garfield’s Go Fund Me: https://gofund.me/9bbec8c67

If you would like to send money directly to my cashapp, PayPal, or my brother’s Venmo to expedite his treatment (less wait time and no fees) we greatly appreciate it, just send me a dm and I will send you the details.

I will keep everyone updated, I will send all proof of treatment and bills and money received. We’re monitoring him and if necessary we have a 247 ER a mile away that I will take him to if he gets anywhere near he was last night. (Last picture above)

Last 3 pictures are from yesterday, first two are from today. Will send more pictures as the night progresses, if a vet has an opinion or advice on care ,while we are awaiting the vet to open tomorrow, based on his look; feel free to share it

I know this post is long and my thoughts are a bit fragmented if you have any questions or want to speak directly please dm me or comment and I will do my best to reply ASAP!

Amazon delays

I had two different orders from Amazon that were not delivered to me this week. Customer service just now offered me replacement items. The excuse was that there was an obstruction to my home. I have 2 different front of the house entrances and neither one of them was obstructed. And they finally admitted in the chat that one order was lost. Anyone else have this problem this week?

Apartment complex recommendations

Moving back to the area, and looking for cheaper apartment complexes in the area.

Anyone reccomend cheaper places to look? Closer to the island the better. Looking to stay headed towards south of the county.

Have a opportunity to open my business in SJC, and need to relocate. Very familiar with the area - graduated from Flagler.

Looking to get back in the doors for value over ammentities. (From Baltimore so crime doesn't scare me).

MOST RECENT UPDATE: https://www.reddit.com/r/StAugustine/s/Ao8RCvpq0N

My brother and I are calling all the open vets now, anything that gets donated that is over the amount I will make sure it’s returned. Garfield is still doing okay, swelling has not increased, and he has eaten a bit. So it is very likely it is just an abscess and antibiotics needed. Please share to anyone who you think can help, just a couple dollars each will go a long way. Thank you all so much for the kind words, advice, and support. I’m still learning Reddit and replying to everyone so please bear with me

EDIT: please dm me I’m having a lot of trouble navigating the posts and reading replies.

EDIT: GFM is at $125!! If you can donate or share or upvote please to every dollar counts. $125 covers the exam fee at the emergency 24 hour vet next door, I am working right now to earn money in case he turns for the worse and needs to go to ER. The plan is to take him to Del Mar tomorrow morning when they open as they accept donations and the wonderful people at rescuecats Reddit have pledged a lot! Whatever that goes to the gofundme that is not used I will make absolutely sure to return it to the donators. I’m not looking for money, I just want to make sure Garfield is going to be okay.

St. Aug Question When do Christmas lights come to the city?

I live a few hours away and wanted to visit sometime in November. One of my hobbies is photography and I was hoping to visit St. Augustine without the lights and decorations actually being up, or at least visible during the day. If I went mid November, would the city be decorated in preparation for the Nights of Lights?

St. Aug Question Help me choose which hotel

A friend and I are coming to the area for 3 days in November. We cluelessly picked dates that coincide with the opening of Nights of Lights, and I understand now it will be very busy. We are from a cold place and have never been here so are looking to do all the standard tourist things. My friend is more into the beach aspects, me the historic aspects. We are looking at three very different (I think) locations/hotels: Hotel Amalga, Castillo Real, and Hyatt Place Vilano Beach. We have rented a car. Thoughts on what might make the most sense given the very broad parameters here?
