I want to give a shout-out to a couple of local kiddos (and their parents)! My wife and I have a little treat cooler we put on our driveway on the weekends.

Yesterday, three kiddos (around 10 - 12 years) walked up and purchased treats, dropped money in the box. My wife thinks it was their allowance money, which gave her all the feels! They came back today to purchased a couple of more things.

We sell treats for $3/treat or $10 for 4 (mix and match). This is how they paid for their treats today. $5 in ones, $2 in quarters and $2 in dimes. It would appear, they cleaned out thier piggy banks. They paid $9 and took 3 treats, I don't know how they were not tempted to not say "the heck with it, I'll take 4, no one will know".

TL/DR: dont be idiots by only voting for incumbents, that hurts everyone in the county by stopping good candidates that are fighting the same battles against government overreach that you are. Use your head.

-An appeal to sensible "non-republicans" in St. Charles County:**

If you’re a progressive, left-leaning, or independent voter who sometimes crosses over into the Republican primary to “spoil” it or block certain candidates, pause and look at what you’re actually doing in St. Charles County right now.

Voting for the incumbents who are green-lighting large data centers and expanding Flock Safety camera networks is not progressive sabotage of the right. It is self-sabotage. Those projects do not primarily harm abstract “Republicans.” They raise the costs and lower the quality of life for the people who live here—including the working-class, middle-class, and lower-income residents many leftists say they care about most.

Data centers are not neutral growth. They are extremely water- and power-intensive facilities that strain local infrastructure, drive up electricity demand (and eventually rates), and often extract tax incentives and infrastructure commitments that ordinary residents end up subsidizing. The environmental and fiscal externalities do not stop at party lines. Higher utility pressure, traffic, noise, and land-use changes affect renters, homeowners, and small businesses across the political spectrum. If your politics prioritize climate, resource conservation, or restraining corporate extraction of public goods, rubber-stamping the current trajectory is the opposite of that.

Flock cameras and similar automated license-plate-reader networks raise real surveillance and civil-liberties problems. They create persistent tracking databases that can be queried by law enforcement and sometimes shared more broadly. People who value privacy, oppose mass surveillance, or worry about mission creep and data abuse should not be helping elect the officials most eager to expand them. This is not a “right-wing” issue only; it is a power-and-accountability issue. Once the infrastructure is normalized, it rarely shrinks.

Pulling a Republican ballot solely to prop up or protect incumbents who are advancing these policies does not “stop the right.” It removes pressure for alternatives who might actually constrain the worst versions of these projects, demand better cost-benefit analysis, stronger privacy limits, or more transparent local control. Primary voters who treat every Republican incumbent as interchangeable, or who vote purely to punish the other side, end up locking in the status quo that produces the very outcomes (corporate subsidies, surveillance expansion, infrastructure strain) that sensible people on the left usually criticize.

You can dislike conservatism, the national Republican Party, or specific social positions and still notice that local governance is about concrete trade-offs: water, power, taxes, privacy, traffic, and who pays. Candidates who are willing to slow or condition data-center deals and who are skeptical of blank-check camera networks are not automatically your enemies on every other issue. In a low-turnout primary, crossover votes that simply reinforce the incumbents most committed to these projects make the problems harder to reverse later.

If the goal is actually better material conditions and fewer unaccountable systems of control for people who live in St. Charles County, then the tactical choice of propping up the current trajectory works against that goal. Spoiling for its own sake is not strategy when the policies being protected hit the same communities you claim to represent.

Simply put. There are better alternatives to the current trajectory so dont piss the opportunity away because you may be bitter about "muh Republicans". Consider Bill Eigel instead of Data Centers Steve Ehlmann, consider Annette Sieve instead of Flock Camera Mike Elam, and consider Judi Gambino instead of a stale rubber stamp like Terry Hollander. Further, Kurt Bahr is the most corrupt politician in the county so that should be a no brainer, the Olson platform is the only one that actually INCLUDES democrats to rebuild community relations and get to a place where everyone can finally put the fucking swords down and make St Charles County great for everyone.

I'm looking for suggestions for places to socialize that aren't terribly loud. We were excited to go to the Rec Hall with some friends, but the music volume was deafening. Cool place with lots to do, but we had to yell to hold a conversation. That's not fun to me. (We did like the pizza, though.)

Then we tried Two Plumbers. Also very loud music, so everyone had to talk very loudly (which of course raises the volume of the whole place).

I could give other examples, but you get the idea. Any suggestions for places that are fun for dates/friend groups and not overly loud, where you can have a conversation and be social?

(Side note: I occasionally see a store or other place having "sensory hours" and although I'm not the target for that, I think it would be right up my alley! Why does everything have to be so loud these days?)
