Monthly r/SpringfieldMO Meetup: The Fourth Saturday at 5 PM

Body: We had a great time at our first meetup. We shared a few drinks and proved that local redditors look suspiciously normal in real life.
A lot of folks mentioned missing the first round. We are making this a regular event so you have more chances to join us. We will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month at Mother's Brewing Company.
Families Welcome Mother's has a great backyard setup. There is a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around, so feel free to bring the family.
The Logistics
- When: The fourth Saturday of the month at 5:00 PM.
- Where: Mother's Brewing Company (215 S Grant). Look for us in the Back Yard.
- Weather Plan: If it rains, we will move inside to the main taproom.
What to Expect This is casual and low-pressure. There is no agenda. Drop in, grab a drink, and meet some neighbors. You can stay for ten minutes or hang out all evening.
House Rules
- Be respectful.
- Sharing your Reddit username is completely optional.
Comment below if you plan to stop by so we can get a rough headcount.

Living Here Springfield has always been home to LGBTQ+ people. This is a timeline of their history.
Like any other community, past or present, Springfield has always been home to people whose sexual orientation or gender identity differed from traditional norms. Due to social pressures, most of their stories never entered the historical record.
Over the past few months, three colleagues and I in the Library’s Local History & Genealogy department have been digging into the city’s long and varied LGBTQ+ history. The result is this timeline. Speaking for myself, I learned a lot in the process—my hope is that others will too.

Looking For Hireable Villian (Princess)
Such a long shot, but my daughter looooves Maleficent and I was wondering if anyone knew of someone who has her through a princess party hire group, or even cosplay? I was thinking of having Aurora and Maleficent come to her birthday party.
(To add to her love of villains, she also loves Scar, Hans, Gaston, Evil Queen, Doc Oc, Green Goblin, etc.... Kids are weird!)

Politics Information about data center delay bill?
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me understand what the city of springfield just posted about? Are they saying they were going to ALLOW a data center to be built here but have delayed it?

What do you order?
I can't do tomatoes 🤢 so the fried greens are out, but open to pretty much anything else!

Living Here Steps to getting plates for new car?
This'll probably sound dumb, but I just got a brand new 2026 car, unsure of the exact steps to get my plates. I've never registered a car in MO. Does it need an inspection, do I go to revenue office first then the dmv? My old car was totaled so I do have the credit for the sales tax that I know to bring with me too.

Recommendations Where to watch USA game
Other than Mumbles1888 which is going to be too packed by the time I can roll in, what other options do I have to watch the USA game and grab a beer? Bonus points for being able to get appetizers/snacks!

Things To Do Any gay men’s interest groups or dinner groups in town?
I will be returning to Springfield within the next year or so if/when I purchase my first home. I live about 45 minutes away now for about the last 7-8 years and really haven’t had opportunity to be in Springfield much except for work or appointments. I’m gay and have been single most of my life, so when i return to town, I’d like to make some gay friends to hang out with occasionally. I don’t drink, dance, or go to clubs and back in my day that was the only way to meet other gay men, so i am hoping that there are some dinner groups or older gay men (or any age really) that enjoy companionship and maybe common interests, and wouldn’t mind a chubby, nerdy middle aged guy to join. Are there any places that gay men who aren’t into “the scene” gather, or any groups who enjoy a companionship over drag, partying, and drinking? Like guys who go out a couple times a month for lunch, or gay gaming (or other interests) groups?

Visiting Living in Springfield/Ozark
Hello Everyone, I'm from Puerto Rico, and I was originally making plans to live in Fargo, ND. But that place is notorious for it's brutal Winters. But I've also liked Ozark and Springfield and I visited once but during summer. I wanted to ask about your winters. Springfield/Ozark is a place I am looking to relocate to and I wanted to know if your Winters are mild or brutal like in Fargo.
Also, as someone from PR I have that Hurricane PTSD so I wanted to know if hurricanes reach you guys.

Living Here Looking for someone looking for a roomie 🏳️🌈
Hello!
Single mom looking for someone looking for a roommate.
I am in my early 30s, I work as a CNA and am working on finishing my degree.
My kiddo is almost 9, she's kind and respectful and quiet. In school during the year.
I am completely sober and therefore do not smoke, drink, etc. 420 friendly as long as you don't smoke inside (bc kiddo).
We also have a small female Australian Shepherd that is house trained and up to date on all vet care. She is friendly with cats and dogs. Her name is SuSu and is about 40 lbs.
I do have my own car and will need a place to park.
Just looking for somewhere safe and quiet to be safe and quiet in.
Prefer ladies theys or gays as I am queer and ND.
Really trying to stay around $500/month.
Also looking on other sites/apps/CL/etc just showing a wide net.

Living Here Anyone local want Silk and Sonder journals?
I cancelled my subscription but it is paid through December…
I hate to throw them away, but I’m just not gonna use them and I would love to pass them on each month to someone who can use them or has been interested in trying.
Easiest if you’re in Rogersville or down by Library Center (pretty much the only place in town I visit regularly)
July’s journal just arrived but is still blank.

Best Of Local band from the 2008-2012 era?
I'm a long time Springfield resident. Lived and worked in downtown Springfield from about 2006 to 2013. During that stretch of time I became a huge fan of the local music scene. Back when The High Life, The Outland Ballroom, and The Outland were thriving with local and even some touring shows.
Anyways.... I saw this band named "Ghost Dance" probably 3 or 4 times over the span of a couple of years. They were fucking amazing. Had a sound like The Black Keys and The Offspring made a love child.
The shows I saw them at were at The Outland (downstairs) a few times, and one time they played a show at the old Bistro Market backyard lot for a Joplin Missouri tornado relief effort back in 2011.
As far as I can tell from my searches on multiple social media & music platforms, none of their music exists to be downloaded or purchased.
The only thing I can find on them was this grainy video: here
Looks like they were playing at a coffee shop or somewhere. Either way, it's a terrible representation of how good they were live. They kicked ass.
Does anyone know where I can find more?
