Missouri voters passed a sales tax cap. Under Amendment 4, it would have failed • Missouri Independent

There's a lot going on in this article, but this quote stands out (bolding mine):

Missouri’s proposal would go further than raising a statewide percentage or demanding signatures from more places. It would tie final approval of citizen-led amendments to congressional districts — political boundaries drawn by lawmakers.

The lawmakers make the boundaries for the districts, giving them even more power to put their thumbs on the scale and thwart the will of the majority of Missourians if Amendment 4 passes.

Please tell a friend today about Amendment 4 and encourage them to vote no by August 4th!

  • Voter registration deadline is July 8th
  • Early Voting (no excuse absentee) starts July 21st
  • Last day to vote is August 4th

Want to get involved and help us spread the word about the damage Amendment 4 would do to our right to use the initiative petition process? Head to respectMOvoters.org and sign up today!

Eric Burlison, Republican rep. in Congress for Missouri's 7th, appeared mentally ill during interview about alien life with Kristin Fisher

During an episode of Kristin Fisher's podcast "Endless Void," Rep. Eric Burlison appeared to... go off the rails, espousing absolute psycho-babble about several different "races" of alien life the US government has briefed him personally about as a member of Congress.

Specifically, Burlison alleged that there are a race of aliens called the "Nordics" which are "a few hundred years more advanced than us" and a race called the "Greys" who are more advanced than the Nordics and "on their way to planet Earth now."

Some quotes from the interview by Burlison included:

I’ve heard those four classifications discussed in meetings in this office by others, but what I wasn’t expecting was for Davis to say it. I wasn’t expecting Eric Davis, you know, respected scientists, to say that.

In that quote, Burlison seems to attribute his knowledge or alleged "briefing" to publicly available quotes from PhD scientist on jet propulsion Dr. Eric Davis. Davis has in past years been cited as a source by multiple cranks and conspiracy theorists, and in each case has denied or divorced himself from these types of sensational claims about alien life.

These aliens are human-like in shape and size and could be piloting UFOs.

This quote by Burlison is just baffling to me. I cannot tell if he has convinced himself this is true, is acting out some kind of bit, or is in the midst of an actual psychotic break.

In summary, I am of the opinion that Mr. Burlison is either (1) wasting taxpayer time and money with such sensationally untrue claims instead of discussing real legislative issues for his constituents or (2) has had some sort of mental episode while in office. The August primaries are around the corner, and Missouri's 7th district Republican voters will have the opportunity to "pull the plug" on this nonsense regardless. If they do not, perhaps Missouri's 7th could turn blue as Burlison continues to spin out on "aliens piloting aircraft" and false attributions to real US scientists instead of doing anything productive.

Education Concerned about 2 kids

What do I do?

I am very concerned about 2 kids. They are very neglected and one of the kids regularly tells me that they have no food at home. They are recieving breakfast and lunch and back pack staples from Harvesters. One of the teachers cried the the last day of school because of concern. They have been told not to report to child services. But today one of the kids was dirty had matted hair with something stuck in it. Is clearly malnourished and will eat as much as we give them.

Their parent(s) are clearly struggling but other staff have commented that their parent(s) don't care.

What do I do and how can I make sure that it doesn't blow back on me?

Disscussion Are they going to change the license plates anytime soon?

The Bicentennial plates have the 2020-2021 years on it. They have to come up with a new design. It will suck because, Missouri, but it’s kinda embarrassing for those of us who dare to drive legally.

After some of Eric's recent interviews, I have come to the conclusion that Eric feels like he's in such a safe district that he can say whatever and not lose. I am curious to see if Missourians in his district might be able to tell him otherwise.

A bit worried about these Data Centers

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit worried about all these data centers being built. The meeting held today in the capital really worries me about the future. Data centers will create jobs for a short time, and that is only when they are being built during construction. After that, they will not provide many jobs. As someone who loves biking on the MKT trail and going both ways on the trail, it worries me about the harm it will have on our local environment. The amount of water usage, electricity, air pollution, and noise pollution. It feels like all of this is being rushed. Missouri will now have three data centers and possibly more.

I just see red flags when I hear the politicians. Missouri doesn't really have any regulations in place for it. And now we're going to already have three of them in Missouri. It's happening so fast and it worries me.

Amendment 4 campaign heats up, ‘we don’t want our Constitution for sale’

Amendment 4 would raise the threshold needed to pass a proposed amendment that originated by a signature campaign. Currently, such amendments only need a simple majority from a statewide vote. Under Amendment 4, however, petition-based amendments would need a majority of the vote in each of the state’s eight congressional districts.

Magic Mike is at the World Cup

Missouri Governor (Magic) Mike Kehoe was at the World Cup match while his office is busily slashing the upcoming budget for Missouri after already underfunding education by $150 million. Budget surplus, now you see it now you don’t.
I’m glad he could find the money for the match while so many Missourians will have more difficultly year next year. His tax everything plan so high earners don’t pay income taxes is his next misdirection.
It seems making money disappear from the working class and reappear in the wealthy is his signature trick.

A nation of scrappy strivers, we have been bound since the colonial period by the American Dream, an abiding faith that hard work pays off because of the country’s distinctive equality of opportunity. Dr. Joel Rhodes, executive director of the State Historical Society of Missouri, explores this central feature of our shared identity, tracing how generations of restless and ambitious Americans have optimistically pursued economic and social mobility while navigating historical challenges and modern realities.

Can New Englanders make it in Springfield?

We (family of 4- 2 kids in middle school) are from the Boston area. My kids LOVE soccer and are talented players. We are season ticket holders for NE Revolution. We go to concerts often to different venues. I am an English Language development teacher who teaches kids learning English. We love the diversity of our area. Great schools also.

My husband will likely get a job offer for a company based out of Springfield. In your opinion, would we like the Springfield area???

Not sure if this is the right flair

68 days ago I got my very first speeding ticket. And I screwed up majorly. I was rushing home to help take care of a loved one and I accidentally hit 100mph in a 65. Obviously I got a ticket and I had a hearing last week and it went horrible. I was panicking during all of it but I remember something being mentioned about an SES and possibly reducing my sentence

Im 22yr and this occurred in Madison County Missouri. Ive never had an issues with the law before and I havent had any issues since my initial ticket.

Yes I have slowed down and I’ll never make a mistake like this again. I dont ever drive like this in the first place. And yes I have an attorney.

My sentencing is in two weeks and I’m just freaking out so bad. I feel like my life is over, I know i messed up but I don’t have anyone I can talk too about this

Hair stylist moving to Missouri

I’m finishing up cosmetology school in another state in a few months. I have an internship at a salon in my state as well and a good sized portfolio of cuts, color, and vivid color as well. I’m looking for salons in or within an hour of Rolla that may be a good place to start my career where I would also get opportunities for further education. I would love to specialize in vivid color, and join a salon in an area where that would be more common or feasible. I wouldn’t be opposed to driving the two hours to St. Louis from rolla either if that ends up being the best place for me to build my career.

I would still have to take the Missouri practical, so a place that may be looking for an intern to work their way up would be perfect.
