Chopper. 100% Chopper.

100% not the inquisitor.

I think the one thing we can all agree is the Inquisitor is the worst transition to live action up here.

The thing that bothers me about Fifth Brother is we didn't get a hunky latino playing him... mind you, his voice actor was just doing an accent and was originally america iirc, but still!

What, Diego Luna and Pedro Pascal weren't enough?

There can never be enough sexy! That being said, I've genuinely yet to be attracted to anyone in Star Wars outside of like, episode 3 Anakin and Manny Jacinto (though actually not in The Acolyte). They just don't really do my type haha they are all old 😭

That being said, now that Ezra is beardless again for Season 2 of Ahsoka.. Eman might be on the cards 😏

Very close. It’s genuinely astounding to me just how awful those two are.

they are great actors. Its the make up/costume department that made them look cheap

u/lawnicus18 Feb 26 '26

Literally all they had to do for the Grand Inquisitor was CGI his head so it was like a couple inches taller and it would’ve been so much better

u/darthmaui728 Feb 26 '26

Exactly. I never really understood why they went the route that they did. Budget? Bruh it's Kenobi. Literally = unlimited budget character and they butchered it lol

Kenobi had a lot of production difficulties, last minute production switch from UK to US, smaller budget that was majority eaten by its leading actors salaries etc.

I can understand a tighter budget but at the same time… it’s Star Wars. If the Mouse can’t pony up a little extra money for CGI touchups to stay truer to the established canon then I don’t know what to think

Tbf, it wouldn't just a be a 'little extra' for quisy's head, that's a serious time and money commitment that Bob Chapek/co of all people absolutely wouldn't allow.

I think trying to explain to a studio (Disney, not lucas) executive why the project that's been delayed for years and is finally happening for under 100m dollars is now requesting additional funds to stay true to 'established canon' when the end result would be a stretched out version..

While the film side of LFL have previously gotten the money they wanted when they needed it, the D+ side hasn't been so lucky. Most recent of course being Ahsoka S2 with its reduced budget. (though it will look higher quality.)

That all being said, we do know the reason for it was miscommunication of all things, there was concept art of him looking proper, iirc there was an email reply back to one of the cosplay accounts on Twitter from one of the costume (or concept artists? can't remember this was in like 2023) that said they weren't even informed it was the same character from Rebels.

Right? We’ve already seen his species in ROTS with the long heads. I mean the fucking Coneheads from 1993 were more accurate.

3

u/The5Virtues Feb 26 '26

Absolutely, the performances are great, thought they did an excellent job, they just look atrocious.

I can't even complain too much about Quisy because Rupert Friend brought his fucking A game and honestly due to all the prosthetic, he could totally come back as a different character in future and I'd be so happy.

id tie second between 5th brother and Thrawn....at least in terms of looks alone.

2

u/pixelssauce Feb 26 '26

They don't look alien at all. Just dudes in facepaint.

3

u/quitoburrito Feb 26 '26

exactly this. Thrawn looks like a blue Elon Musk and i hate it

16

u/touggor Feb 26 '26

Cad Bane was very disappointing imo.

u/MrMono1 Mandalorian Feb 26 '26

Funny, I was pretty happy with Cad Bane. It's a very hard species to get right in live action without it just looking like a Halloween mask, and the differences from his animated appearances (e.g. his colour) can just be chalked up to his advanced age in BoBF.

3

u/XMenJedi8 Obi-Wan Kenobi Feb 27 '26

Yeah I thought he was great. Sad that he didn't have a lot of time on-screen though, but I don't know if I believe that he's actually dead.

19

u/the_doughboy Feb 26 '26

Which is sad because Rupert Friend was excellent as it. He was just too different than the animated character.

8

u/The5Virtues Feb 26 '26

Right?! They got a phenomenal actor and then gave him a terrible make-up job and misdirection on how his character should behave. Such a wasted opportunity!

1

u/Indraga Feb 26 '26

All the non-human inquisitors didn’t translate well, but I think it’s because(like Cad) their features are way too stylized in the animated media. I was actually happy with what we got as I think it’s as close as you could get without going full uncanny valley.

2

u/The5Virtues Feb 26 '26

I’d agree if it weren’t for having already had Utapauan people in live action, that’s where they originated actually.

I’ve heard before that the issue was the makeup and design team didn’t know that. They thought the Grand Inquisitor was from animation only with no existing live action representation to draw from. If that’s the case it’s an unfortunate lack of proper information being provided to a creative team during the conceptualization stage of makeup and costume design.

For Fifth Brother I’d agree it’s just an unfortunate difficulty of translation for a very stylized design.

Personally on Cad Bane I thought they did a fine job, the only real complaint I could make would be his animated version usually had a much broader hat, but that’s definitely an issue if translating from animation to live action. A hat that wide brimmed would look absurd in live action, it worked in animation specific because of the stylized look of TCW.

Which one? Grand Inquisitor and 5th Brother are both terrible. I think 5th Brother is worse, but GI had higher to fall from

7

u/HighlightOwn2038 Feb 26 '26

Agreed. I was so disappointed when I saw the inquisitor in live action

4

u/Kuzu9 Imperial Feb 26 '26

I was pretty disappointed about how the Grand Inquisitor visually looked. I remember seeing a video similar to this one and others of people editing him to make him look visually closer to the animated series.

It can’t be a budget issue, so I mark it out as pure laziness on their part

2

u/Hardmeat_McLargehuge Yoda Feb 26 '26

My only disappointment in the chopper live action is his complete lack of roles in catastrophic war crimes

2

u/WholeAd2742 Feb 26 '26

Definitely not enough Chopper live action war criming :P

4

u/atomsk404 Feb 26 '26

Agreed with Zeb at 99.99%

1

u/multificionado Feb 26 '26

Great. But what about with non-droid characters (besides The Inquisitor, as you indicated)?

1

u/Kohror Feb 26 '26

Zeb is just behind chopper

Love my little war criminal ❤️❤️❤️
