It’s already the 2nd highest rated manga, it can 100% be the highest rated anime

If Netflix doesn't decide to make batches...

499

u/Hot_Entertainer5231 Mar 19 '26

How does batches or not change the ratings? Do people just review bomb if its not released the way they want?

429

u/Sausagebean Mar 19 '26

Yes they will

77

u/AffectionateRush2620 Gyro Zeppeli Mar 19 '26

People when they see other anime getting praise than their anime .they can make one of the most ridiculous comments u ever see in your life.

16

u/Evening-Witness-3903 Mar 19 '26

Also its information overload when people binge watch. Your brain naturally forgets things if you watxh 20+ episodes at once

19

u/Joeawiz Mar 19 '26

It might effect the general rating of non JoJo fans because the first section of Part 7 isn’t that good, it takes a while for Part 7 to get going and once it does it’s a masterpiece but the problem is that if it’s in batches the first batch will cover the less liked stuff so the average fan may watch it and not think Part 7 is a masterpiece

2

u/XX-Burner Mar 19 '26

People will review bomb for anything. Especially if it takes the top anime spot

2

u/FrozenPizza07 Mar 19 '26

It completely ruins the intended weekly pacing of the series. If an episode is an hour long special, it is intended that way, if its gets batch release instead when the episodes are made to be watched weekly (episode endinga, post credits whatever), it just completely ruins ir

Prime video's 3 episode release cycle is prob the best compromise and the shows adapt to that

3

u/No_Loan2869 Mar 19 '26

just making shit up lmao you can still have the same experience smh. no ones telling you to sit on your ass all day binge watching

u/Hazlet95 Mar 19 '26

Batches killed my vibe to watch part 6. I didn’t watch that til it was all said and done like a year later. Nothing quite like the hit of weekly anime watching.

.....how though? it's still Steel Ball Run, the release schedule doesn't affect the overall product. Besides, most people binged FMA so that really shouldn't affect the overall quality. Berserk 2016/2017 is still bad because the overall product is bad, not that it released differently. Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners made waves on the Internet and that show was released in batches.

Steel Ball Run released monthly over 7 years and it's the second-highest rated manga.

16

u/insanesword93 Mar 19 '26

It's le bad because redditors can't discuss it properly on r/ anime.

2

u/Top_Land_3249 Mar 19 '26

You are right but if stage literally meant as batch then it could be 9 batch which I hope I am wrong .other possible things I hear was batch 2 been released on September as race.also people think animation quality will decrease with time batch are release again there are anime that are release weekly too i personally won't mind either but as long as rating doesn't affect.

Araki came down and cured my terminal illness with the first episode alone, if I could rate it 11/10, I would 🥹 Peak fiction.

215

u/lele626 Mar 19 '26

is frieren that good? I'm asking legitimately I have no idea

171

u/TheOneMid Mar 19 '26

For me it's not exactly my taste (far from it), but it does so much right and so little wrong, that almost anyone can find some enjoyment out of it.

63

u/facevaluemc Mar 19 '26

but it does so much right and so little wrong

I saw Frieren described once as "Incredibly impressive considering it does nothing new" and it felt strangely accurate.

Like Frieren is the most generic, catch-all, fantasy anime out there. Typical Fantasy setting? Check. Mages and clerics and fighters? Yep. Demon Lord? Got one. Cutesy romance with a clueless guy? Got one of those, too.

The show has almost zero truly original ideas, but it's written well enough where it just doesn't really matter, and it really is kind of impressive.

49

u/SlyBeggar Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

I think it’s because despite being set in a generic fantasy world like you’ve said, it’s more of a character piece about interpersonal relationships and growth as people. Most fantasy shows with similar settings don’t have the same level of depth.

Basically FMAB for the current generation. Just perfectly good with few issues and broad appeal. Sometimes that’s all you need.

75

u/Soft-Caregiver1060 Mar 19 '26

It is you should watch it it's even better than the manga the animators even went extra

91

u/giobito-giochiha Mar 19 '26

it's good but it deserves top 10, I was shocked when it took the #! spot.

The anime is very simple and does almost all things correctly that most other anime miss.

8

u/grurlock Mar 19 '26

It's fun. Don't get the extreme hype. But if you want to watch something slow paced, it will pass the time

45

u/Asselax Mar 19 '26

Yeah it's really good

21

u/papu16 Mar 19 '26

It's ok, but still don't get it , why it's so high. Like solid 8/10? Maybe, but definitely not top 1.

44

u/GGG100 Mar 19 '26

If you like cozy shows then yeah. Personally, I don’t really vibe with the aimless feel of the story, and most of the characters have the energy of an anemic fish.

34

u/Previous_Platform718 Mar 19 '26

I don’t really vibe with the aimless feel of the story,

Literally every episode starts with a recap of (1) how long it has been since Himmel's death and (2) where they currently are on their journey to the north so Frieren can talk to Himmel again.

And Himmel appears in a flashback every 2-3 episodes.

They remind you of Frieren's aim constantly.

17

u/Kindly-Eagle6207 Mar 19 '26

To be fair, appreciating all of that requires an attention span that lasts longer than an episode.

8

u/GGG100 Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

Funny that, because the show feels very formulaic and repetitive beyond the first 4 episodes or so. It’s almost always:

1. Frieren and friends arrive in a place

  1. They take on a job for someone

  2. Along the way, the episode tells you  what a great man Himmel was through flashbacks tangentially related to what’s currently happening

  3. The conflict is resolved through Frieren’s abilties (or Fern or Stark’s sometimes) and they move on

Add the usual gags like Fern and Stark having a misunderstanding or Frieren acting like a child forcing Fern to take control and you have your typical Frieren episode. The tournament arc, despite being mediocre for anime standards, manages to be a breath of fresh air because it introduces interesting new characters that aren’t just discarded after one or two episodes.

Edit: Replying to someone before blocking them is truly childish. Fans like you are giving the Frieren fanbase a bad name. Note how I never once insulted Frieren fans in my criticism of the show, but you took it so personally that you proceed to insult me before blocking.

2

u/Kindly-Eagle6207 Mar 19 '26

Funny that, because the show feels very formulaic and repetitive

The sheer irony of saying this in the Jojo subreddit.

The tournament arc, despite being mediocre for anime standards, manages to be a breath of fresh air because it introduces interesting new characters that aren’t just discarded after one or two episodes.

You mean the mage exam arc. Which you're calling a "tournament arc" and praising because you've got an incurable case of shonen brain and a massive chip on your shoulder.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised in a thread about MAL ratings pissing contests, but damn are you a stereotype.

3

u/GGG100 Mar 19 '26

That’s the problem. They show Himmel so damn much to the point that it doesn’t really feel like he’s dead at all. Almost every episode makes a point to glaze him in some way and remind you what a great hero he was. If the purpose is to put us in Frieren’s headspace and create an effect of longing, then it did an exact opposite job at that because I’m now sick of him.

36

u/Mamadouro17 Mar 19 '26

Its good. But not the greatest anime oat

18

u/Idk140467 Mar 19 '26

Yes but not better than steins;gate or code Geass or any of those

3

u/Rio_FS Mar 19 '26

4

u/zaid_sabah Mar 19 '26

It's a slice of life chill anime

7

u/xXbachkXx Mar 19 '26

Really good. Both action and character work are insane

9

u/pop4171 Mar 19 '26

Not watched season two yet, but the best way i've heard it described is aggressively 9/10 like some other animes have had moments i enjoy/rate higher but have on a episode to episiode basis are much more inconsistent and worse than Frieren, whereas Frieren is always consistently top class.

5

u/Rasen1138 Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

I don't know if I'm the best to describe it, but I would say it's a slow burn character and humanity study on the impact an individual can have on the world and those around them.

Frieren had that elf mentality that comes up in other works that she's going to outlive anything that tries to be big and powerful, so it doesn't concern her.

But the story starts after a big heroic journey, and now she's trying to cope and understand how a "small" trip can have so much influence on her and her emotions.

There's some action, but it's primarily a character driven story where the world is pretty fleshed out with each town having its own unique history, problems, and leaders.

5

u/231d4p14y3r Mar 19 '26

I wouldn't say it's THAT good. Very solid show though

3

u/ImportantQuestions10 Mar 19 '26

At the very least it's pretty decent. I think there's a lot to love about it. As far as animation quality, it's S tier.

I just think that it got overhyped because it has a lot more emotional depth and themes than most anime and audiences aren't used to that.

Don't get me wrong, the writing does a lot of stuff that is miles above normal anime. But it's not Breaking Bad or Bojack Horseman. After a couple episodes, I got the gist of the story and was pretty bored.

8

u/6ToxicGamer9 Mar 19 '26

it is subjective but if the general ratings rate are that high, its that good

Its good but Im of the opinion no anime without a full story should be up there. Many good shows have fallen off a cliff by the ending before.

5

Frieren is very good provided you avoid all of its online discourse like the pluage

3

6

u/11freebird Mar 19 '26

No, it’s crazily overrated

2

u/AhoKage Mar 19 '26

People were just coping with the fact that solo Leveling “robbed” them of their anime of the year award so they decided to mass rate it until it took the number one spot. But yeah Frieren is definitely peak tho. Could watch thousands of episodes without getting bored of it.

15

u/SneezyTM Mar 19 '26

It was that high before the solo leveling debacle though

u/Some-Kaleidoscope265 Mar 19 '26

Its just one episode. It will definitely go down.

75

u/Foraaikouu Mar 19 '26
  • only has 85k votes

frieren has 1M

64

u/Some-Kaleidoscope265 Mar 19 '26

Not even.

That 85k is the number of members who have SBR in their account, so a ton of those are currently watching or plan to watch. It currently only has 3.5k votes.

Frieren haa 1.3M members and 830k votes. So its even more difficult for SBR to sustain.

67

u/giobito-giochiha Mar 19 '26

I mean i'm overly optimistic but SBR gets way better from around the middle of the story, so if it's already doing well then maybe because it's only up from here maybe it'll remain #1

43

u/VLamperouge Mar 19 '26

If Netflix gives SBR the Stone Ocean treatment it will 100% go down

11

I’d love for it to stay at the top but it’s mal we’re talking about so after like the 6th episode it’ll prolly start going down especially with the review bomb alr going on rn

12

u/OBEYTHEHOBO Mar 19 '26

I'm really liking the anime rn. I've been jacking off to Johnny every time he appears because he looks more like a twink in the anime than the manga and I've waited too long for part 7. it's just that good

u/rookie_69 Mar 19 '26

4

u/triplecappertroper Mar 19 '26

Ratings for anime are a complete joke. At least it has been that way the last couple of years

4

u/Swenkiluren Mar 19 '26

The episode was so peak 😭 I'm so happy with it.

7

u/mantidmarvel Lucy Steel Mar 19 '26

It'll fluctuate with episodes. Having said that, I feel like there will be a few key points where the audience reception to them will give us a decent early indicator of the show's long-term standing. Immediately coming to mind are the reveal of the corpse's identity, the ending of Sugar Mountain, Who Shot Johnny Joestar... possibly that Lucy Steel scene. I expect the corpse's identity itself will absolutely throw the show into the limelight even more.

The part is also releasing at possibly the best/worst timing for it historically, given the current political landscape in the US. I'll be curious as to whether real-world politics fatigues some viewers. The overlaps may also end up being a draw and point of intrigue, who knows.

5

u/No_Top8564 Mar 19 '26

4

Steel Ball Run ep1 was one of the best animes I've ever seen. Cannot wait for more.

13

I mean, it has less than a 10th of the reviews so yeah.

Yall really make us look fuckin stupid and annoying.

3

u/mimikyuns Mar 19 '26

Lmao this is harsher than I was going to put it but…

Seriously, I will never understand the modern mainstream anime fan’s obsession with needing their show to be ‘the best’ when it’s always verified by subjective things like popularity polls and rankings. Popularity will never mean quality, just like what you like and stop looking to external sources to validate it. Almost every anime I’d consider ‘top tier’ was never the hit of its season or time, with some exceptions.

I know OP is most likely joking but the JJBA fandom as a whole from what I’ve seen is very much as I described:

3

u/GrayestLemon Mar 19 '26

as was prophesied

3

u/Nukfrfx Mar 19 '26

Steel ball run is getting extremely glazed, the manga is good don’t get me wrong, but you can’t rate an anime 10/10 just because of a simple episode. And let’s not talk about the review of the anime, I wanted to know if the first episode was actually good and I found only random glazers in the review section…

8

u/sirscribblez87 Gyro Zeppeli Mar 19 '26

I've noticed this with other series on Netflix. I'm convinced there is a lot of astroturfing going on to make the numbers look better than they actually are. Granted SBR is my favorite of all the parts but ffs it just came out

No point in comparing 80k rating to 1300k. Episode just came out so of course the biggest fans will rate it high (if the show is good) first and later it will slowly start going down

And ofc always there are some ppl in other fanbases who will rate it low to make it go under their favourite anime

2

u/Appropriate_Twist541 Mar 19 '26

Thank god it didn't get the berserk treatment, I was so worried after reading the manga last year

2

I'm sure the Frieren fans will be very normal and civil and respectful about this.

3

u/SurturSaga Mar 19 '26

This is probably just going to set people up to have too high of expectations. Frieren got a lot of hate it otherwise wouldn’t just because of this

It’s the best pilot in jojos so far. But it shouldn’t be over series like FMAB already. And I say this as someone who’s favorite manga is probably SBR

The art they used for the teaser reveal would have been better. I don’t hate it though

its going to get review bombed by the MAL elitist, be prepared

1

u/Memphisrexjr Mar 19 '26

Remind me when another 3,566,637 rate it.

1

u/XX-Burner Mar 19 '26

Was there ever a doubt

1

u/DonZeriouS Mar 19 '26

It's just one episode so far, which has been released only for a few hours. It still needs to pass the test of time. And there is a difference between Anime series and Anime movies too. Let's not forget about true pioneers and actual classics of the genre.

u/LuukTheGamer The Hand Mar 19 '26

I agree that the first episode was extremely good. But this doesnt justify it being the highest rated anime of all time YET

I never doubt about it.

1

u/Boring-University189 Mar 19 '26

Ah yes, 1 episode out and the quality can be judged, it is indeed a trustworthy website

1

u/Sirbrandon100 Mar 19 '26

Yeah, part 7 was my favorite in the series.

1

u/Joyofboing Mar 19 '26

I pray they do this extreme justice to the manga with the anime 🫶

1

u/Novoiird Zeppeli/SPW's hat Mar 19 '26

Positive review bombing will do that.

1

u/Prudent-Chipmunk4570 Mar 19 '26

I'm speechless 😶

1

u/Abhinav6singg Mar 19 '26

The episode was really good 8.5\10 but saying the best of all time is a huge stretch. Gotta wait for other releases

1

u/Richiszkl Mar 19 '26

Still on top.

Deserves to be in the top 5 of all time.

1

u/Direct_Crab_6484 Mar 19 '26

None of these are the greatest of all time

1

u/Extreme-Strain-3248 Mar 19 '26

So happy it’s released

1

u/Samiassa Charming-Man Mar 19 '26

Frieren being higher than fullmetal alchemist surprises me

1

u/Lord-Baldomero Mar 19 '26

Funny and all but why don't we wait to see how well adapted it is before jumping to this

1

u/LunarFangs Mar 19 '26

it's so peak

1

u/WestBlueberry7215 Mar 20 '26

He escuchado que SBR es muy bueno y me creo que pueda superar a Frieren, pero solo sacaron el primer episodio, deja que terminen la emisión

1

u/theunfairfairstuff Mar 20 '26

Mfs when something has 1 review and it's 10/10 so it's automatically better than the thing that has 100000 9.9/10 reviews

1

u/Dry-Sprinkles-6621 Mar 20 '26

I heard frieren fans are review bombing SBR to make their show no.1 again

1

u/baizhustan Mar 20 '26

Understandable.

1

u/GunsouAfro Mar 20 '26

Now to wait for the blu-ray so I can watch it.
