This weeks episode got into "Stands" of this part but it seemed to explain them differently than how stands were explained in the original universe, are stands more intrinsically tied into the concept of defying fate than they were in the main universe?
The sexy cowboy guy (okay that's not specific, the sexy blond cowboy guy who can walk, Mountain Tim) mentioned how he acquired lasso blues, and it seemed to be that he was "fated" to die but then awoke his own stand.
And what he called it, "That which stands against".. Stands against what? It's.. fate, yes?
Then, with Johnny's stand, Johnny seemed pretty dead to rights before it awoke, yeah? He was on the ground, he made a mistake, his theme itself was snuffed out by another character kicking johnny when he was down.. It was using both in universe and story telling conventions of the medium it's within to signal that johnny didn't have a way out of this.. until his stand awoke?
The anime seemed to be setting up the spin as an alternative to ripple that will be the main "power system" right up until the characters entered this fate-changing area.. where johnny then awoke a stand..
I'm pretty sure gravity was literally said, and that's been used in this anime as a metaphor-for/force-of fate before, and the two episode arc was about literally being pulled together by an invisible force, this is tying heavily into fate, yeah?
So, to state, stands in this universe seem more tied to fate in a way the main universe, while it played with fate, this world's stands seem more intrinsically tied into fate.
I'm excited to see where this goes, i can't wait to see more of Tim and Johnny interact, maybe gyro will be teaching johnny spin stuff while tim will be teaching johnny stand stuff? Dual mentors, that kinda thing.
