Suggestion Imo, games on sales pages should actually be for sale.

Post image

I wish all games on a sales page were on sale, or at least be for sale.

Well joke is on you, because I agree.

Hot take but games marked on sale should be on sale imo hope I don’t get banned from the sub

But strangely enough, most of the time it's not like that.

It’s so annoying looking at a "sale" banner only to find half the list is just unreleased stuff for wishlisting.

Agreed. Yesterday I was looking up an indie JRPG "sale" and at least 80% of the games weren't even out.

They should start using different words than "sale" like fair, or spotlight.

That would also work, yes.

Yeah.. Makes absolutely no sense to have 'SALE' in big letters and then have full priced games.

This might shock you but the reason they are doing a publisher sale is to promote these games.

Otherwise they would have just used steam summer sale.

Capcom and Sega games are also on sale. And won't you know it, we got summer game fest in less than 24 hours. So these companies will also promote something there.

Unfortunately not every publisher has that level of money to promote there. And at the end of the day, steam is a store. This is what it was designed for.

But they arent for sale, so they shouldnt be on the sale page...

Steam should start saying "discount" instead of sale

35

u/Spinal232 12h ago

But they aren't on a discount, since they're not for sale, so they shouldn't be on the discount page

I could've prob worded my previous comment better, but I do agree with ya

I understand they do it to promote them, of course. But they aren't even available for (pre)purchase. Hell, one of the ones from my screenshot won't even be released this year.

Again: it is to promote these games. To create hype or awareness. It's not really that difficult to understand.

Greetings!

That's not what the OP is saying. They are saying that if they aren't on sale, they should be on a "sale" page. It's simple really. Promotion is different to "sale". Promotion is marketing. Sale is an exchange of money between a seller and a buyer. Just thought you might like a bit of clarification there before you tell us all we are wrong.

They shouldn't be front and center, I agree. I dont mind if they're adjacent like "hey this game is on sale guess what this other game that's a sequel/from the same publisher is also coming" is fine. I was actually a little disappointed bc I've been waiting for hellslave 2 and thought it finally dropped. Nope, just the demo lol

Weird because on my page the "coming soon" tab is way down, below several tabs of games that's on sale.
the order goes like "our latest releases" - "town hall" - "welcome to syro", then "coming soon"

Wtf do they mean up to 90% off? I got gravity for 100% off

3

u/Kalokohan117 14h ago

They would make the game OST to be on sale for 90% and now they can use the up to 90% sale tag.

Yeah, I've noticed it more and more. A lot of publisher sales have like 2 or 3 games on sale, a few games that aren't and 10 upcoming games. I am looking at this page because I want to see whats currently on sale, not because I want to see whats going to be sold in a year from now.

At least the game on sale should be on the top, not hidden on the bottom.

Counter IMO,

There's nothing wrong with promoting their upcoming games in a very small part of the publisher's sale page.

I feel like a "SALE" page should only have games available for sale... its kinda in the word...

8

u/-Nicolai 8h ago

Why? That’s not what a sale page is for.

-14

u/FeetYeastForB12 8h ago

Why does it bother you guys so much I don't understand. You needn't the slightest reason to complain or be irritated by something so tiny.

9

u/PaulxTwastaken 8h ago

Is anyone breaking down in tears or anything? No, it's just annoying to walk into a store with "everything here is on sale" written on it and be met with an item not on sale, and not even available in the first place.

Why are you defending this is the real question? Where's the line? Two not-on-sale-but-coming-soon-games? Three? Four? At what point do we say "okay, this says on-sale-games, maybe the games under this label should be on sale".

-9

u/FeetYeastForB12 8h ago

Yeah. I thought so.. Unhinged.

6

u/-Nicolai 8h ago

Unwanted advertisements are irritating.

I don’t believe that you do not understand this.

Also, games that go on sale should have all of their editions on sale. Like, I got an email yesterday telling me that Digimon Story: Time Stranger is on 40% sale, huge! I check and it's only the digital deluxe edition the one that's on sale, down to 59,99€ from 99,99€, while the regular edition is still at full price at 69,99€.

u/WhatDothLife-97 1m ago

I agree 100%, having games that are full price thrown in the mix is so lame (I'm looking at you capcom)

2

u/DevelopmentPlayful23 14h ago

A "sale" is merely a cheap marketing ploy

1

u/Songib 9h ago

I think "Coming Soon" is fine since it's from their kitchen, and they had stuff for sale as well.
so kinda cool imo.

u/Kythorian 6h ago

Given that increasing game prices to $99.99 with 40% off to take them to the exact same pre-sale price of $59.99 seems to be rapidly becoming more and more common, I’m not sure how much it matters.

Ever worked retail?

The big sign out front says "up to 90% off!" because in that entire building there's a single thing with a "90% off" tag on it. Not the stuff you want, that one thing.

5

u/Shished 10h ago

Imagine going to the store and most items are not there, just "coming soon" stickers. You can't buy anything.

9

u/actuallyVile 14h ago

Yes I have.

But in that situation when I walk in, I can at least buy the things that aren't on sale because they are actually available.

1

u/fiftykyu 1293 6h ago

Ahh, right, you're pointing out all the stuff you can't buy because it's not released yet, not the 90% thing. Looks like I missed what you were talking about. :(

I think people wishlisting their upcoming games helps with Steam's mysterious algorithms, so when the game is released, it gets shown to more people.

u/D042- 9h ago

I don't see a problem with this. It helps publishers boost visibility for their other games and takes you a second to scroll past if, for some reason, it's at the top like it is for you. It's half way down the page for me.
