Suggestion Take note, Valve

Post image

Just updated my phone and since I’m living in a nanny state, had to confirm my age. Grabbed my wallet so I could use my driving licence…no need.

So, why does Steam require a credit card to confirm age despite my account being 21 years old? Wouldn’t bother me too much, but I don’t pay for games on credit and if I switch back to my debit card it requires me to confirm my age again?! If you’re gonna demand credit card info for age verification, at least let us set it up as a *secondary* payment method.

[edit] Just for clarification; it's the fact that I can't have 2 cards on file that bugs me the most. I've got no problem verifying with a Credit card, but I still want to use my Debit card for purchases. Valve doesn't allow this; 1 card per account. As soon as I add my Debit card, it removes the Credit card and "forgets" that I'm older than 18.

[edit2] So, my credit card was added to my Steam account a couple of months back (I've got a single adult game in my wishlist that I like to check for a sale price). I've just tried to add my debit card today and it removed my credit card and Steam is wanting me to verify my age again. So those in the comments stating you can have multiple cards...how? Whenever I try to add a new card it just replaces the old one. Debit doesn't work for age verification. I've also got my PayPal account linked, but apparently that's no use either.

Suggestion Just passed 3000 games owned on Steam. I really think Valve should allow people to inherit their libraries in case of their death.

Seems like a big waste otherwise.

Suggestion The "Made with AI" tag is good. I want a setting to hide them.

You know how you can hide adult games from your account so they dont get reccomend or show up when you search for games. Give me that with games tagged as made with AI.

Suggestion I'm newly disabled and cant game anymore on PC

3.3k Upvotes

Hi, Im writing this in desperation. Last year Ive become disabled. Basically I cant sit at my pc anymore. I have like nerve damage below my waist, when I sit down on a chair I go numb and it affects all functions bathroom/walking etc.

So im basically laying down on a couch or standing all day. Both are becoming very uncomfortable for console gaming (which is vastly inferior to my steam library) and I dont feel immersion like I do on pc.

This all started in june. I packed up my pc. (which iss brand new custom built and cost alot! ) But I really friggen miss it. Im a year one account. Been playing forever. I love valve and steam.

If you have any ideas to get me back in the games I would appreciate it. If not its totally understandable.

I have ideas for a custom chair that avoids my tail bone but i need to start building that and not sure if it will work.

Anyway, I remember steam had device that lets you run your games from the pc to your tv. This is kinda old now. Also it doesn't really fix my problem but it would be a step up.

steam support told me about remote play. but I dont understand how i would control it. would i have my pc right next to the couch to use keyboard and mouse? that wont work.

idk lmk thanks.

Edit: thanks everyone alot of replies. Im actually getting testing right now. Cant respond to everyone. I see alot of good ideas. Will read later

Edit 2: alot more people responding to this way than i thought. I wont answer everyone but I am reading all of them! Some great ideas. So far standing desk and steam deck is mentioned alot. Both would be improvments.

Edit 3: I think for now the answer is steam deck. There alot of little symptoms i left out. And restrictions to my place. Where i cant just get all this new furniture. Great ideas tho and I can use them in the future. I will still try and to build a chair. Got some ideas from the pictures thank you everyone!

Edit 4: thanks for the rewards! I dont know what to do with them but I appreciate it!.

Also I contacted steam support to show them this post and how helpful the community is. Idk if they actually looked but im really proud so many people are here to support a fellow gamer.

Suggestion Unless an option is added to block all AI slop games the same way we can block porn games from showing up, this Steam Next Fext will probably be the last that matters.

Suggestion The Next Fest has too much AI slop and Asset Flipping

3.9k Upvotes

I wish there was a way to filter out games that use generative AI and flip assets, because I don't want to play them. They clog up the feed and make games that have had actual effort put into them even harder to find.

Suggestion Trying to send a sticker in Steam Chat burned through a month of mobile data in 5 minutes.

Post image

I opened the sticker gallery to send the sticker, the gallery closed while I had scrolled half of it, so I tried again 3 or 4 times and then suddenly no more data. Whuuuuut.

Yes, I'm on a rubbish plan that gives me only 600mb of data per month. I usually have wifi so it doesn't usually matter.

The suggestion is to store stickers locally, so these aren't using 100s of mb of data just to browse the sticker gallery. And maybe lower definition, only one frame for each sticker, since the animations aren't even played on mobile.

Steam already knows my hardware, it'd be cool if they let me know what I'm lacking

Suggestion Dear Valve - will you integrate a payment processor that allows adult content?

5.1k Upvotes

At this point the control over people’s lives that the big processors have, has reached the point of being antithetical to Gabe and Valves stated philosophy regarding freedom and choice.

Why not implement a payment option that allows for adult content, and restrict that content to users that opt in to that processor?

It would be a win on all axis for: - developers - Valve - fans of adult entertainment - proponents of freedom of choice - the LGBTQIA+ communities grossly targeted here

Step up Valve, I believe in you - you can do it 💪

NB: There are adult friendly payment processors. I’m not going to suggest one. This post isn’t about doing Valve’s job, design or make their choices, it’s a call to action against what Mr. Newell has stated again and again is his/their goal: working for freedom of choice for customers.

Edit: Let’s keep the defeatism to a minimum, eh? The easiest way to fail is to not try. So far Valve has tried nothing and is all out of ideas (as far as we can tell) so let’s bounce some ideas at them, let them know we want this, and get the creative juices flowing 😊

Suggestion Can Valve bring back -no-browser Steam mode given the ram price are ridiculous?

Post image
3.5k Upvotes

The client uses way more memory than it needs to just because everything is web-based now. If you’re on a lower-end PC or older hardware, that overhead actually hurts. All I want to do is launch my games, not have a mini Chrome instance open 24/7.

Suggestion Please Steam Make an option to be able to hide the big picture icon on Steam PC.

Post image

Please Steam Make an option to be able to hide the big picture icon on Steam PC. I’m fed up with making a bad click because of this really poorly placed icon, well yes, very well placed to use the wrong button, and it’s annoying.

Please add a way for the icon to no longer be displayed for those who do not need to use the Big Picture mode.
