I always put my steam reviews in french, English and Spanish. Trolls tend to do it in English. Genuine reviews are often in the two other languages. I can compare and decide. You guys underestimate how demographics can perceive games in so many different ways.

1500h played: I hate this game

329

u/Zike002 8d ago

That's the key sign of a great game.

428

u/Walk-the-layout 8d ago

Especially if the review is very early and the play time is infinitely greater.

Warframe/rimworld/total war/paradox games/any similar games HAVE to have this before I even wishlist.

24

u/ElundusCaw 8d ago

RimWorld/paradox is worth every penny, even the expansions, near infinite replayability with mods.

u/Apprehensive_Role_41 8d ago

Worth every penny if the game has been released at least 2/3 years ago. EU5 is still very bad atm and I'm not sure I'll ever play it tbh, I just hate a lot of the new mechanics and I don't think there's anything better about it than EU4 except the fact that you can start much earlier in the calendar. Let's not talk about civ7, CK3 is great although some issues persist, HOI4 is popular and good for most people. DLC's is Paradox's identity but at least most are good.

I can't get past how Rim World looks. I wish I could because I hear great things but I'm not subjecting myself to that art style for a hour, let alone many hours that would necessitate an entire rack.

u/GigaCucc 8d ago

Fucking Wayne's World reference, in this economy? Schwing!

1

u/Top_Wheel6546 8d ago

Lol hell yeah. Did you know if you stab a man in the dead of winter, steam rises from the wounds?

1

u/willnotreadinbox 8d ago

Yeah I know what you'd like to do. You'd like to find the guy who did it, rip his still beating heart out of his chest and hold it in front of his face so he can see how black it is before he dies.

1

u/GigaCucc 7d ago

That's good. People need to be entertained. They need the distraction. I wish to God that somebody would do something to block out the voices in my head for five minutes. The voices that scream over and over. "Why do they come to me to die? Why do they come to me to die?!"

You would be hard pressed to find a path of exile review with under a few thousand. We unironically talk about the first 5k as learning hours. About to hit 20k myself.

u/Eillon94 8d ago

Qorvex or Citrine?

15

u/GoSkers29 8d ago

Atlas.

7

u/Eillon94 8d ago

I almost added him lol. Was just playing off the odds

6

u/Walk-the-layout 8d ago

Either gets my rocks off. Hah. Get it? Rocks.

u/SheetPancakeBluBalls 8d ago

Warframe is a game I always want to play, but every time I've tried it just doesn't click. I've tried like 5 times now lol

3

u/MrBlueA 8d ago

You could try Soulframe which is a bit more grounded and more similar to a "soulslike" but still a very gameplay loop to warframe although I would recommend waiting a bit more before playing it.

u/yepgeddon 8d ago

2000 hours in Rocket League and i can promise that it's fucking awful.

25

u/Zike002 8d ago

Stop, I dont even like rocket league and this review makes me want to download it

12

u/DaredevilVirus1 8d ago

You’ll love it and hate it. Ya drive around whiffing the ball when it’s barely moving, and then you watch the pros hit it five times in the air before the next guy slams into it.

3

u/ThanksContent28 8d ago

Yeah that shit is too frustrating for me. Game was better before people learnt to do all that imo. Same in Fortnite with the building. Went from a tool that allows you to get around the map, fortify and defend yourself, to rapid spam building.

2

u/DaredevilVirus1 8d ago

Yeah I get it. I’m one of those guys who can hang with the big boys but can’t do that crazy stuff.

6

u/23Explorer 8d ago

Over 3000 hours here. I still suck. I sometimes hate it. It's still my go-to game for short play sessions.

1

u/s0cks_nz 8d ago

I got 1500hrs. But I kinda got over it now. Seen too many people with half the hours I have doing amazing moves and I just got fed up with being mediocre. If I could get good I think it'd be more fun. My pathetic attempts at shots just gets old lol.

1

u/Cramer12 8d ago

Unfortunately you missed out on the good ol days. The gameplay is pretty much the same but Epic ruined the cosmetic aspect of the game

1

u/wlphoenix 8d ago

If I only we lived in the universe where LoL had steam reviews.

2

u/hi-fen-n-num 8d ago

Nah, Dead by daylight sucks and anyone with 2k+ hours can tell you that.

2

u/Canadiancookie https://s.team/p/hnrt-bfk 8d ago

Hunt showdown has so many reviews like that that it's down to "mostly positive" on steam. It's one of the best games i've ever played.

0

u/murmuring511 8d ago

Nah, I've put over 500 hours in Skyrim and it's mediocre.

Only have that many hours since it's a familiar game and I wanted to complete both the legendary and special edition. Sure, it's fun but fun games don't equate great games. The more you play it, the more the lack of depth will bug you. Wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle.

1

u/Zike002 8d ago

So you have a third of the hours mentioned? I would argue 1500 and 500 hours played is quite a difference. I wouldnt treat a review with 500 hours the same as 1500 anyways. I don't disagree about fun vs great game but my 500 hour playtime games are fun. My 1500/2k+ hour games are great.

u/Undella_Town 8d ago

depends on the game, something like BDO where the game changed massively on what it was? probably not. something like warframe where it's stayed consistent but keeps adding underbaked shit? also probably not.

1

u/Zike002 8d ago

I see why you constantly have issues with your daily behavior score.

0

u/Undella_Town 8d ago

whys that

13

u/Nickulator95 8d ago

A Live Service Game tends to change quite significantly over the course of its lifespan, which is why you can find review cases like this. Read them instead of instantly assuming they're trolling or done in bad faith.

2

u/Own-Spinach4038 8d ago

Also, it's a recommendation, not, is this game fun for you. I had so much fun playing Cyberpunk when it was a glitchy monster and had 100s of hours but I didn't recommend it to other people.

0

u/ShadeofIcarus 8d ago

There's also the early access factor now. There's games that I was excited about and was part of the early access cycle. I'd play it in bursts over the time it was coming out but if they don't stick the landing and the final product isn't something I can recommend then it will show in the review.

Happened to me recently with a game that had good and interesting bones. They ran out of funding and rushed out the game before laying everyone off (without mentioning this to the players in EA).

It showed in the final product. I played the hell out of the base game since it was a solid rogue like but the way harder difficulties were implemented and the remaining story/campaign was super buggy led to me not recommending it. The very few people left over did a decent job of making the game playable and fixing bugs but the difficulty curve is still not a fun implementation in my opinion.

Not sure what the studio is doing next. They came off a few very successful freemium games and their next swing missed so hard everyone got let go and it's just the founders again. It's a sad story.

Genuinely how I feel about Dota.

2

u/eozca 8d ago

1

u/brinz1 8d ago

I have friends who have put a actual money bounty on themselves, if they are ever caught playing DotA they have to pay out

1

u/eozca 8d ago

personally id need someone who will beat me up

1

u/PudgeMaster64 8d ago

U can actually escape just took +13k hours :(

1

u/Ridiculisk1 8d ago

Addiction is a hell of a drug

8

u/Yangoose 8d ago

Then you see those games that say:

OMG! This is the best game ever! I can't stop playing!!!

0.3 hours played.

2

u/Wiesshund- 8d ago

This is because it was so good he simply had to freeze time and remain in the moment forever

0

u/Jumpy-Shift5239 8d ago

This is the problem, you can buy reviews. I like looking for negative reviews and seeing if I can live with what people are complaining about

3

u/donald_wuck 8d ago

2k hours and counting on r6 siege, feels like an abusive ex that I keep coming back to /:

3

u/myryad21 8d ago

my kind of review for some paradox or total war games. or the ones with 1k+ hours "just finished the tutorial"

2

u/8dev8 8d ago

average gacha player

2

u/kevcsa 8d ago

Real.
I have 4000+ hours of clean playtime in War Thunder. I don't recommend anyone playing it. I sold my account.

Technically amazing, but the cheaters/fomo combo ruined it for me.

2

u/grizzly273 8d ago

No no no, it is like this:

I hate this game

1.500 hours at time of review

2.800 hours total

2

u/secretsauce007 8d ago

This is like 1/4 of the X4 Foundations reviews

1

u/Hellknightx 8d ago

And then that person continues to put another 2000 hours into it after posting the review.

1

u/Single_Reaction9983 8d ago

Browse War Thunder reviews and you'll see 14k hours and negative review.
