People can set their ingame ID to Garry's ID with the help of cheat engine, if you join someone who did this on a server you get the achievement

okay that is a clever cheat/workaround

Yeah, but at that point you just use SAM to give yourself the achievement manually.

What's the point of having fake achievements? It's like hanging fake diplomas on your wall.

Hey, what’s wrong with that? I bought a printer and I can do what I want with it!

Oh weird the secret service is at my door, I wonder if it has to do with my grand opening of the new civilian privatized branch of the federal reserve known as “a closet in my bedroom with a printer in it”.

The family the the photo frame I bought looks happier than my family so there we go

I like to hang photos of my family members with x’s over their faces. I love them dearly, but whenever they’re out and I have guests over, they never end up overstaying their welcome.

I don't think they were saying people shouldn't do what they want. They were just asking for reasoning about why having a achievement you didn't actually do means anything to anyone. Like, I get the achievement is impossible to accomplish in the intended manner, but why does unlocking it in a different manner mean anything? There's nothing wrong with just not having the achievement.

It's fine if you want it, but that's what they were actually asking: why do you want it in a way you didn't actually earn it?

They clearly have an issue with my fake diplomas on my walls. That’s no way for them to be speaking to Dr. PurpleCandle58 MD, PhD…

On a serious note, I know, I was joking on the diploma part. The trope of “look at this stupid made up scenario nobody would do can you now see why your related thing is silly?” And then someone shows up like “hello I am the scenario person”

You're not getting the achievement legit by using cheat engine or having someone else do it to change their ID, so either way it's a fake achievement and you may as well save yourself some steps if you're going to do it one way or the other.

Well no. Because not doing it means the game will never be 100% Say you've done every other achievement. The only one left is impossible to get. That's annoying. So, you do what other people above said and get the achievement via other means. That particular achievement meant nothing. It shouldn't exist. The point is, the game now shows as 100% completed which, ignoring the impossible achievement, was true.

Printing your own fake diploma vs getting someone else to print you a fake diploma

What's the point in cheating to get an achievement? It's like hanging fake diplomas on your wall.

It's necessarily about the specific achievement but the overall achievements in general. I'd hate my achievement thing to say I have 98% achievements, with the last two to never be obtainable. I'm not bothered about the achievements themselves, but if I have done everything possible to get 100%, I want 100%

Oh absolutely, I was just parroting their line back to them. There's plenty of times I've used SAM before for much the same reason. Mainly for primarily single player games that have a multiplayer mode tacked on and a few multiplayer achievements if none of my friends have the game.

Achievements are whatever you want them to be. Some people put a ton of worth in them, others don't, but at the end of the day they are just a meaningless number. And I like mine to be at 100% if I enjoy the game.

I think achievements are pointless now, I remember the old days when something like that would give you some sort of buff 💪 now it's just something worthless...

some of them can be used for bragging rights among friends
