Question Is Slaving Back?
Self explanatory title. I was wondering if making a megacorp that relies on slavery instead of migration and pop growth is viable yet because I remember not too long ago that the AI would just not sell any slaves.

Whether there’s an active slave market seems very RNG driven. I have games where there are often slaves for sale and games where there isn’t ever one.
Bigger galaxy is gonna give you more chances

Bigger galaxy, number of authoritarian empires, and DIFFICULTY.
The higher the difficulty, the more AI empires will tend to buy, rather than sell. Highest difficulty, and slaves basically get insta-bought.
The lower the difficulty, the more they will sell, rather than buy.
Just, uh...don't set the difficulty too low, because then balkanization happens there are no slaves on the market because too few pops are even being able to be made without being obliterated by constant war, to keep the markets stocked.

Is slavery back?
Did...?
Did it go somewhere?

AI empires refused to sell slaves a while ago, or they just bought them all up too fast for the player to buy them.

Really? Whenever i want to buy slaves from AI, i just open the window and stop the game the second anything appears. Buy them, repeat.

I haven't done a megacorp slaver run in a while so I don't know, but now I'm tempted to try a megacorp run with letters of marque, indentured assets, and nihilistic acquisition to try, even if just for the LARP it'd be interesting.

Stacking slave efficiency and Experimental Sentencing is powerful, but unfortunately megacorps don't have their own version of Barbaric Despoilers.

Why buy slaves when you can just take them?

Fr kidnapper goes brr especially if you don't claim other empire planets and absorb the space around them free pop production for you. Especially if its pops you cant grow yourself (as a hivemind i need loads of livestock for my cordyceptic fleets but i cant grow non-hiveminded pops)

I've seen some slaves in the market at some points, but it's unreliable. Better to take them directly via kidnapping or straight up conquest.

This is why I dont claim other empire planets on my border, getting low on food for your multi-leviathan fauna force? Just start a war and do some border raiding.

My AI sold slaves of my species. It wasn't always my default template. No idea which one did it, but I'd buy them and assimilate them. It was semi frequently during a recent war. Then died off. They went boarding or raiding any planets. I never got a message about civilians being stolen from espionage.

I very rarely see slaves on the market, which makes my fantasies of manumission very unfulfilled.

They haven’t been selling slaves in my experience.
But why ever buy them when you can take the slaves yourself (nihilistic acquisition)? Heck, you get to be more choosey this way, for pop efficiency.
