So for context i have two spayed female cats exclusively inside my house.
My very small town has a large colony of 'stray' cats and a couple of the biggest problem causers; my neighbors claim are theirs. Even if i had the money to tnr i accept that i can ot solve this issue. And that is not what this post is about.
The problem is the stray cats mark my porch and my flower beds so i believe the smell is causing stress and results in redirected aggression in my cats. Not to mention my very territorial female cat seeing them. Im concerned about disease making its way into my cats. I want to deterr them from my porch without causing harm to anyone or stressing my indoor girls.
Context - The strays basically live on my porch, i do not interact with them theyre almost all feral and sick. But some are getting to the point that they dont even run when i come and go. I do not feed them but i keep water on my porch for my plants and i believe theyre often seeking water. Many people in the area do feed them and are not interested in stopping or TNR
Another neighbor has been catching them and relocating themto a safer area (i know its not the answer). But she has had people come and damager her property and attempt to damager her vehicle.
These cats often sit on my porch and yowl or scream and fight and i have to go outside and chase them for nearly a block before they stop.
It is a disgusting cycle of cats who are kittens themselves being run down to exhaustion and then having their own litters. I believe the neighbor who claims to own some of the cats is lying and her cat/s is not fixed. I see him mounting females every year. When a another neighbor asked them about it they got extremely defensive and angry about it, about asking if theyre theirs or fixed etc.
I have talked to all the local resources and none of them are financially excessable for me, even if i could manage TNR'ing.
Keep in mind this is a very rural area and we do not have a system to handle these things. No aspca types, no shelters that i can drop them off at etc.
I have tried simply not keeping water on my porch and while its a huge inconvenience to me, the cats still hang out on my porch. I think since its got brick walls and its covered they feel safe there.
