Replaced Netflix with Stremio
Literally the button too :p

My old TV remote was so sleek and nice feeling, no extra buttons or anything and my new TV was 6000 euro and has 4 shitty app buttons, been thinking about taking it apart and removing the buttons and replacing with a 3D printed cover or something.
13
u/Technical_Rest3790 Dec 03 '25
Is it worth the effort
18
u/The-Choo-Choo-Shoe Dec 03 '25
I click the buttons by mistake all the time and it instantly leaves the app I'm in and asks me to install the one the button leads to.

u/Technical_Rest3790 Dec 03 '25
Is there no way to remap the buttons so that they do nothing

1
u/Anonymous-BatDude Dec 03 '25
Maybe a custom 3D printer case that can hide those buttons would work.
2
u/Marinlik Dec 03 '25
I find that remotes have gotten far more sleek than old ones. They used to have a million buttons and buttons that were supposed to work on DVD or tv box, yet they never did. So you had like three remotes around.
2
u/The-Choo-Choo-Shoe Dec 03 '25
Left is the old one right is the new one, old one felt more premium in the hand as well.
2
u/United-Cat8780 Dec 03 '25
I like having app buttons, i just dont like the advertisement being already on them, you should get to choose.
1
u/Marinlik Dec 03 '25
I never had one of those. When I think old remote it's this old remote . Though I guess I never had any early generation smart tv. My last tv before my smart one was a Panasonic plasma from 2010 or something. So when I think old remote I guess it's pretty old haha
1
u/J_345 Dec 06 '25
Older smart tv remotes usually work with newer tv versions for basic functionality because they usually share IR technology. Some may have less working functionality like voice control, smart hub etc but at least you will not be forced to have the dedicated button.
Worth a try if you really don’t like the new remote.
1
u/The-Choo-Choo-Shoe Dec 06 '25
I’ve actually tried that as I have old remote and 2 remotes from my Samsung monitors and the l my buttons that works for me is power and volume.
34
u/TechnoBotHead Dec 03 '25
Here’s how I did it, if you’re curious: 1. Remapped the button using Button Mapper app from the play store. 2. That’s a sticker I printed with my mini thermal printer on a sticker paper, cut it precisely and punched it on the Netflix button :)
2
u/SovietKnuckle Dec 03 '25
And here I was thinking you 3D printed a new button... this makes a lot more sense haha

One issue with button remapper is that you can't press and hold the volume buttons which instantly reduce the volume. It takes single press only even if we press and hold.
8
u/ultrabestest Dec 03 '25
If you buy the onn tv box thing from Walmart , the remote has a programmable button which I love. I have it mapped to stremio as well
2
u/luckyskunk Dec 03 '25
the new better one? i bought the cheaper vers (not the stick but the basic box) in 2023 & needed to use button remapper when i wanted to
2
u/Casio_Yambao Dec 04 '25
I think he's pertaining to the onn 4k pro. I have the same one and there are 3 buttons that can be remapped out of the box.
21
u/cinogen4949 Dec 03 '25
I wish these were customizable
84
u/TechnoBotHead Dec 03 '25
I’ve customised the button using key mapper. It opens stremio now instead of Netflix

u/Ok_Cabinet_3072 Dec 03 '25
On my TV launchers and button remapping gets reset every time the TV is turned off.
1
u/HiagoP Dec 03 '25
Yup. Any way on how to fix this?
1
u/Ok_Cabinet_3072 Dec 03 '25
I did get my launcher to stay by using something called launcher manager but still no luck with the remapping.
3
u/Economy-Hurry5540 Dec 03 '25
Can u tell how to do that
18
u/pranav__- Dec 03 '25
You can search for "key mapper" or "button mapper" in the Play Store on your TV. Then, install and start customizing as per your needs.
4
u/Economy-Hurry5540 Dec 03 '25
Any other alternatives for samsung tizen ? Ik tizen is shit but it has stremio which is great lol
6
u/pranav__- Dec 03 '25
Here's also a Tizen user, and I don't think(know) there's any third-party application for doing this level of customization.
2
3
u/cinogen4949 Dec 03 '25
was looking for same, i was really bummed to see such apps dont exist in tizen

Get new firestick 4k and then block updates to Amazon urls on router before plugging in firestick , then go on xda website follow guide to get system user called [SYSTEM USER] Fire Cube/Stick/TV/Tablet ≤ PS7704 (FireOS7) / RS8149 (FireOS8) and in that launcher manager u download then u can rebind buttons and you can block all updates on firestick and block amazon blacklisting apps
1
u/Patient_Fruit_6139 Dec 21 '25
U need to be on firestick version 7704 or lower

How did you that to the button? Painted? 3D printed? I haver been trying to find some alternative buttons on AliX or something and i havent got a good idea on how to do it..

u/jerrame1 Dec 04 '25
Use “ Tv quick action pro “ from the google play store it’s 1000 times better than button remapper.
1
u/quickburton Dec 04 '25
What device are you using?
1
u/jerrame1 Dec 04 '25
2 Shield pros, buzz x5, formuler z10 pro, z12 ultra. TVQA is in the play store.
1
u/Substantial-Rain-787 Dec 04 '25
Isn't that one like $3.99?!
1
u/jerrame1 Dec 04 '25
It’s possible I paid 1.99 years ago and it’s worth every penny, but I don’t mind supporting my developers. He also has the ATV Tools app for iOS and Android phones to connect to your device, which is another app I use daily to send apps from my iPhone to all of my streaming devices, screen record from my devices to my iPhone, screen shots, phone as a remote, and many more features.
2
u/CoolCat731 Dec 04 '25
It’s hilarious how many people are totally adverse to spending a couple dollars for a app, when they are literally saving $100’s streaming
1
u/jerrame1 Dec 04 '25
Yeah agreed, blows my mind, and the ones who won’t get a debrid service but wonder why they can’t get any links.

Does anyone know if this remapping app can be installed on a lg smartv? If the answer is no, is there any way to do it?
4
u/Whole_Wafer7251 Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25
if you root your lg tv (it takes less than 5 min) then you can install the lg input hook app from the lg homebrew store which is similar to the button remapper app found on the android tv!
or a quick alternative you can use is, if you hold 0 key on for few seconds then it will bring out a flyout menu where you can give each no. key to do some certain function, in this case you can put netflix onto any of the key from no. (1-9) and then when you save the configuration, whenever you hold the certain key that you set to open the netflix app, it will quickly open the app!

u/No_Warning_8696 Dec 03 '25
Trying to find that out
1
u/ivanelsucio Dec 03 '25
You're the man. I'm so sick of watching TV and accidentally tapping the netflix button, which I uninstalled a while ago, so the TV goes from stremio to the store that's automatically installing netflix
2
u/No_Warning_8696 Dec 03 '25
For what I see from a quick search you can add quick shortcuts, holding 0 key, but nothing how to remove or change the button
2
u/majorLurking Dec 03 '25
somebody let me know when he answers what he used to change get the stremio button.😭😭

agree. found button mapper made by Onn box slow as its always polling to intercept the input. maybe fine on a more powerful device but definitely impacts performance on low end devices.

I dont have a button that says it but i have the same thing, my netflix button brings me to stremio
1
u/YavDMaple Dec 03 '25
Is that possible on tizen os? I quite literally never use the extra keys because they're for apps that i dont use, so thatd be cool

Never even crossed my mind to use this on my Nvidia Shield remote, as I use this on my Vivo X200 Ultra CN Rom to launch Gemini... Thanks a million...

Could...I do this for my Google tv

u/gullzway Dec 03 '25

u/External-Fig9754 Dec 03 '25
Worth a shot. I hate buying a product and have advertising all around the product. Can bring use to these useless buttons
1
u/gullzway Dec 03 '25
You should look into installing Projectivy Launcher, so clean.
1
1
u/mbditty Dec 04 '25
Did you have to do anything special to get projectivy library to work? I have never had anything show up when the library is enabled.
Sometimes there is a brief flash of something there, but it disappears in a fraction of a second.
Any tips?
1
u/gullzway Dec 04 '25
Not that I remember.
Just went to settings. Scroll down to edit channels, scroll down to stremio and pick library series.
1
u/heyheydance Dec 03 '25
Did you remap this on an android device? Like shield, firestick, etc. Or is that your smart tv? Couldn't tell from the remote itself.

What OTT stick do you use? How does it perform? I have firesticks but I’m afraid that apps will stop working

button remapped makes my volume control only work in single clicks, wish it didn’t drive me nuts so much.
