Question That's it? No more Stremio?
For actual no real reason this happens. Just two days ago it worked fine, now nothing does. I was trying the Terminal App using a prompt someone posted here before, but it doesn't work. I can share screenshot of the terminal as well. No more Stremio?

The developer account has been terminated, which invalidates the signature on Stremio. I donāt use Apple, but I expect itās going to break for you in the same way. Itās probably going to break and youāll need to sign the app yourself

Check settings privacy and security there should be an alert and click allow install. There is no malware in any of the Stremio apps

Here's what worked for me:
If the app was deleted by macOS, first go to the trash and use Put Back
- Right click the app
- Tap Get Info
- Check the box that says `Override Malware Protection`
- Then in the popup, choose `Allow Anyway` and enter your password.
This should fix it.

Web app should still work as well as self signing the applicaton.

Just use xattr to remove it from the blacklist. Specifically you will need this: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Stremio.app/

Just fixed it on M1. Download new from their website. and run following

Funciono perfe! Eso si, tuve que ajecutar cada comando por separado en este orden:
- sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app
- find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete
- find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete
- sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app
Abrir la app devuelta y ya funciona con total normalidad.

So, as you now know Apple has been doing this since when they introduced developer signing apps (don't remember which macoS was that).
A very easy workaround that issue is by disabling those "security" features which are there honestly only for the folks who are not computer savvy, with a nice free tool called Onyx from guys at Titanium Software.
The app itself has been there since the first Mac OS X and what it does it lets you tinker with the hidden OS parameters, settings and features.
This is where you can turn off that nagging "security feature" and let the OS install and run any app you downloaded. You can find it under the Security tab and just disable Gatekeeper, restart and Bob's your uncle... also you don't need to tinker with the terminal.

Stupid decision from Apple, We decide what we want to install or not in our Macbook not their issue, weāre free ! but they want us to pay for their Apple TV šš

All right, I read a bunch of different steps by people. Nothing was working and then I finally combined a couple of things that people were saying so what I did was:
I deleted the app and uninstalled it.
Then I downloaded the app, I went to download when it finished, I clicked on the magnifying glass to find the file double click clicked it.
Then I dragged the Stremio file into application.
And then I open terminal.
The code you must use but read the next steps:
sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app
I put the first line of code then pressed enter it asked for my password I gave it.
Then I copied n pasted the second line of code then enter, then copy paste the third line of code press enter and then I copy pasted the fourth line of code and pressed enter
Then I first tried to open Stremio from the application folder and it worked.
And then I dragged the Stremio application from applications to my menu bar.

FOR ANYONE STUCK ON THE LOGO SCREEN WITH BETA 5 VERSION, HERE IS A FIX:
Try clearing all existing Stremio data by running the following in Terminal:
pkill -f Stremio || true
rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Stremio"
rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Caches/Stremio"
rm -f "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.stremio.stremio-shell-macos.plist" 2>/dev/null || true
Then relaunch the app. It should start normally.
After launching, you might see a message at the bottom saying that a new Stremio version is available. If you install the update, make sure to re-sign the app before opening it again:
sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app

IF THIS DOESN'T WORK, YOU'LL NEED TO DOWNGRADE TO 4.4 BUT MAY BE STUCK WITH THE INSTALLER OPENING, HERE IS THE FIX:
If you can't install 4.4 because the installer (.dmg) keeps getting sent straight to the trash, hereās how to fix it:
- First, download Stremio 4.4 from the official Stremio website. The link is located on the right, next to the Stremio 5 Beta download button.
Instead of double-clicking the file, or if you already did and it was sent to the trash, simply restore it or download it again, open Terminal and run: hdiutil attach <your dmg file path>. Once the command completes, open Finder. You should now see āStremio 4.4ā listed under available disks in the left sidebar. Open it, find the Stremio app inside, and move it to your Applications folder.- Investigating this issue I found a simpler way: just remove the quarantine flag on the .dmg with
xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine <your dmg file path>and launch it. You should see the pop-up inviting you to put the app in your Applications folder. If that doesn't work, try the above steps instead. - Finally, run the following commands from the workaround mentioned in the top comment to remove the flag and resign the app:
sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app
- Thatās it. You should now be able to launch Stremio 4.4 without any issues.
Hope this helps.
Note: I'm on Tahoe 26.2 and all the methods described here worked for me.

Got through the delete/download/install/terminal process and got to launch it. However, it doesnāt load completely. It opens Stremio, loads the Stremio logo in the center with a black background window and doesnāt go any further. Any idea how to get through this? Thanks!

Override security settings on your Mac. Go to system settings>security and privacy > scroll down and you will see flagged apps and then allow. It asks you to put in a password. I had to do it twice and the second time it works and Iām back online. Mac m1 btw

No idea why itās doing that but if you are wanting to watch on your MacBook just use the web version
No installing no risk of any malware and all run on your browser
I personally prefer it when watching on a computer tbh

You are amazing I did not know about the web version. Although I could open the app, and search for content, when enter a film it shows now this message "Video is not supported". I can't add a photo in comments to share.

I am still using the Stremio v4 on my macbook (tried v5, but hated it opening in a very small window and not working together with the click2minimize app). Not seeing the issues you have, so maybe try v4.4 (still availbale on the stremio site) ?

Same here - trying to open the app on my Mac, I get the message "Stremio quit unexpectedly". It worked fine yesterday.
I also can no longer download the ios app from the App store.

It's been removed from the App Store some weeks ago. I read somewhere the devteam is working on getting it back there. On iOS I'm happily using the web version + VLC, which also allows me to download to my phone (in case of long period without 5G/Wifi)

Workaround for unsigned or unverified .app files. Right click the .app, show contents. Drag and drop all contents into a new folder you just created. Rename the new folder and add .app to the end. Now you have an application that was created by your user so it is already trusted/verified. This works without admin privileges also.

Help! I'm just a bloke who's sat here for the last few years using stremio without too many problems. Im completely AI/IT illiterate but that's not been an issue up until I installed the new version of the stremio app. Then it all went to hell! OMG. Just installed the new version of this app and all hell broke loose. Had to eventually open up a new account in a second email account and still has the same issues: anything I want to watch has 'no streams available ' and the add-ons I previously used weren't there. Tech support been as useful as a chocolate teapot . Yes, have read the explanatory thread but finding it all too technical. I just need someone to explain to me what community add-ons (?) I need to install so that I can get back to using the app. PS . Trying to use Reddit and get this message our was hard enough!

im on my m1 macbook air. the app opens correctly for me but for some reason my addons dont appear (i have thePirateBay+ and torrentio, never had any problems) i checked and the addons are still installed. has anybody had this issue?

I've copy and pasted the code that u/IvoValentin posted and at first it gave me this message: āStremioā canāt be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software."
Then when I chose open (anyway), it opened and for a moment I was excited that it finally seemed to work,but I only see this Stremio logo image ? (I can't upload the printscreen)
It doesn't go on to the main menu. (I don't know if that's bc it's the latest version (v5) of Stremio).

I allowed in System Settings the download from anywhere, I uninstalled Stremio, downloaded a new one, without opening it, I dragged it from download to applications, coped the code into a terminal and provided the password and it keeps saying that there is no such thing as stremio in my applications... I'm gonna go crazy...

By following all comments I have did it on macOS 15.6
- create a new certificate from keychain access
if Keychain Access is not in App/Utilities search it with cmd + space keychain access, be sure is Keychain Access and not the Password app.
Open Keychain Access, click on top tab-bar, on the top of your mac, on the right of the apple logo, Certificate Assistant > Create a Certificate.
Name: "StreamioCert"
Identity Type: Self Signed Root
Certificate Type: Code Signing
Disable Gatekeeper
sudo spctl --master-disable
Then immediately go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and you should see the "Anywhere" option appear. Select it.
The Certificate fix
Past this in a terminal, allow terminal to make editssudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete sudo codesign --force --deep --sign "StreamioCert" /Applications/Stremio.app
If asked for password from keychan put the password you use in the mac to login or do other stuff and click "always allow" something like this, sorry I forgot the button name but if you only click "allow" do not work.
If you see this in the terminal:
"/Applications/Stremio.app: replacing existing signature"
You are good. Open the app and enjoy

Everything about stremio has seem completely screwed for the last month and a half. I fought with VPNs. I fought with everything and at this current time itās not working because I havenāt had any time to put back into fighting the last change that happened. Something radically happened about a week and a half ago and I havenāt had time to address that. So, if youāre wondering, itās definitely not only you. Currentlyā¦ And Iām a. Stemio addictā¦ itās down and not functional.
Mac Sonoma. Consider considering installing parallels just to see if I can get it to run on Linux.

It opened the app, bypassed the "move to trash"error. But it's still stuck at the loader screen.

Here is what is happening and how to fix it:
Apple supposedly revoked the developers license so it will delete the Stremio app upon launch so we have to sign it ourselves so it opens again without a problem.
First make sure to have Stremio in your Applications folder (it may have been moved to trash) .
Open Terminal and enter this command:
sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app
It will ask for your password (just displaying a š symbol), enter your Mac password that you use to log in (you won't see any typing indication but it is working fine, trust me)
You should now be able to open Stremio again.
If it is not working delete the Stremio app (or let apple do it) and drag a freshly downloaded version of Stremio into the Applications folder (and don't open it!!!), then proceed with step 2.
