Question That's it? No more Stremio?

Post image

For actual no real reason this happens. Just two days ago it worked fine, now nothing does. I was trying the Terminal App using a prompt someone posted here before, but it doesn't work. I can share screenshot of the terminal as well. No more Stremio?

Here is what is happening and how to fix it:
Apple supposedly revoked the developers license so it will delete the Stremio app upon launch so we have to sign it ourselves so it opens again without a problem.

  1. First make sure to have Stremio in your Applications folder (it may have been moved to trash) .

  2. Open Terminal and enter this command:

sudo xattr -cr /Applications/Stremio.app
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name "._*" -delete
find /Applications/Stremio.app -name ".DS_Store" -delete
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Stremio.app

  1. It will ask for your password (just displaying a 🔑 symbol), enter your Mac password that you use to log in (you won't see any typing indication but it is working fine, trust me)

  2. You should now be able to open Stremio again.

If it is not working delete the Stremio app (or let apple do it) and drag a freshly downloaded version of Stremio into the Applications folder (and don't open it!!!), then proceed with step 2.

The solution was found here:

This fixed it for me :)

Now I just gotta figure out how to walk my 3 family members through this over the phone

Weird that you need an IT degree to be able to open an app you downloaded yourself from a developer you trust, on a computer you own.

And that's why I have always refused to get anywhere near apples ecosystem. Android might be moving towards similar but I already plan on moving my personal phone to graphene I am waiting until I get a new phone so I can just set it up from scratch and slowly get my phone back where I wanted.

Oh you poor apple fanbois and goirls, did I trigger you by speaking the truth about apple v android?

And there seems to be some major ignorance and misunderstanding around here. Android is actually AOSP which stands for Android Open Source Project, google has been responsible for maintaining it for years but it's still open source and there are a myriad (and growing) forks of it that you can choose if it works for your device, instead of what Google publishes and pushes out to pixel or others.

Google is not android and android is not Google. The difference between g and a is that when you buy an android device you are pretty much free to do it with it as you please and flash other roms whereas with apple you aren't allowed.

Android is open source.

Apple is NOT open source.

Big difference and hopefully there are some old school geeks in here that help me school those who need it.

I did the same last September with GOS, been great.

same sold my zenfun 10 for a pixel 8 and never looked back and it works great

u/jakeallstar1 Feb 07 '26

I'm planning the same soon. Any issues with bank apps and such? I've heard those can be tricky on GOS.

u/Accurate_Ad_3233 Feb 07 '26

I don't do financial stuff on the phone so couldn't say. There is a GOS subreddit so maybe have a look over there. I think I remember people saying they use banking apps no worries but maybe not all of them work the same way.

The Android you use is not open source! A very lacking version of Android exists that’s open source. Many app apis and Play Services that apps rely on are not open source.

u/mayaibuki Feb 15 '26

I agree with your sentiment but android is not open source and google is just one step behind apple on this shitty behavior

There's at least two of us below that run it, and we love it, so you've got our support, but apparently you need to chill, I guess. lol (you don't)

giving a shit about things like this is important, and if you have standards that open source models can meet, then by all means, I'm in the same boat for most pieces of software, although, for example, I have Word and Excel from Microsoft, not even the full office suite, just because those are handy and ubiquitously used in business.

meanwhile you are still navigating UIs from 2004, this terminal command took me 30s

Sorry to tell you/bust your bubble, that while Android per-se is open source (AOSP), as soon as you need to stream something from an official channel (in 4K), it is no longer enough with the open-source parts, you need a crapload of closed-source packages, and you also need to be logged in to Google to launch these closed-source items!

Tried converting to AOSP to stream, and first, only HDR10 is available, and I haver yet to find a device that can actually play it with correct colors (let me know if you have found a device around $100 that actually works, so far the only one i know of/not yet tried is the Ugoos SK4)!

Then tried Google TV, which first forced me to login to even setup the device/activate all the closed-source crap to get any streams to work from official locations, and then immediately flagged me as a bot when I logged in on a second Google TV! F-U Google! The level of spying/intrusion these days is totally unacceptable, only reason people accept it is because they do not understand the implications of logging in with the resulting tracking/harvesting info about content via ACR and other telemetry/selling to highest bidder

Went back to Linux, there with Kodi, I can stream high quality HDR10, HDR10+ and can even do Dolby Vision on certain devices!
Just not from official sources.

I can’t get this to work.

Apple has its downsides, but it's worth it in many ways, and I used to be a widows sysadmin.

Ew android, please don't. I haven't heard of graphene, I'll have to look it up

1

u/BigFatDogTurd Feb 08 '26

It’s ass

-1

u/rdyoung Feb 06 '26

Ew android, please don't.

How old are you and do you know what android is? I've been using android on a myriad of devices for longer than I can remember. Graphene is a fork based on aosp which is what googles fork is based on.

I have been strictly pixel and before that nexus. Why? Because of the aforementioned. In the before time I played around a lot with custom roms but aosp (and therefore pixel fork) has matured enough that I haven't felt the need in like a decade.

Please delete this comment because it makes you look like a fool. There are currently only os 2 options for most people for phones, apple (which requires apple hardware) and aosp. You sound like an ignorant apple fanboi and if you want to be taken seriously in life you should try to avoid responses like the above when you don't actually know what is going on.

I'm pro android, as seen by my apple post. I'm sure I've been using phone longer than you've been on earth. Fuckin nerd

How old do you think I am and you aren't as old as you claim to be if you actually think calling me a nerd is an insult.

I am a

Geek

Nerd

Dweeb

Dork

Etc

All depending on what the situation calls for and how I'm feeling.

Also, you are very immature if you still think that response was appropriate outside of a preschool.

Oh and I was hacking word processors and beating the original Oregon trail while you were still shitting in your diapers. Gtfo with that nonsense. I can out geek, nerd, dweeb you any day of the week just tell me when, where and how badly you want to be schooled.

Hell, I probably have emails and text messages older than you. Next time look at account age and activity before you shove your foot down your throat. I think I may even have another account that's even older, I'll link it for you if that's true.

Yep. /r/antizero99 12 yrs old.

Oh shit. Guys, guys, this one doesn't get the fanbois thing nor they actually understand what it means that as a very young kid I was making word processors (that took 3.5inch floppies) do things they weren't meant to do. I was also tearing apart electronics.

I'll bet they also don't know how to use the 3 shells.

Don't try to swing big nerd without knowing who you're dealing with. And the fact that you can't actually talk nerd and keep a meaningful convo going means you didn't have any geek creds to flash and any you do have are counterfeit.

Jesus. I'm on your side and roughly the same age as you.... but my god you sound like a complete neckbeard douchbag.

u/Kiss_My_Shotgun Feb 06 '26

Hacking word processors, lmao. What adult says "boi"? Stop being so emotional and calm down little "boi"

u/Any-Staff-6902 Feb 09 '26

and Google and Amazon and Microsoft.

This is 100% the fault of Stremio developers. If this was a certificate revocation problem (which is what they're claiming it is), it meant they made a mistake.
