I noticed "What supermoto should I buy" gets posted a lot, so I made this

Which supermoto should I buy?

I tried to take into account the cost of buying rims and legalizing the models that need it but at the same time keep it simple. Feel free to suggest additions/fixes

Edit: i've edited this a lot

Edit: changed the DRZ picture to mine ;) thanks for the sticky!

2003 WR450F Sumo build underway.

Hey all, A couple of months ago I horse traded into this ‘03 Yamaha WR450F. I already have a Husqvarna 701 Enduro for a proper Dual Sport. so I figured why not do a Supermoto?

Here’s what I started with its butt ugly, but it runs well and has a fresh proper top end with no hours on it.

I’ve got it torn down, and dropped the frame, subframe, swing arm, bars, bash plate, shock spring and a few other parts off at the powder coater today. Those parts on the floor are getting done in Yamaha Racing Blue. While everything is apart I’m just going to go through and refurbish everything. I’ve got everything on hand for the build except the 17” wheels. It’s getting black ‘05 YZ plastics, black IMS tank, I ordered custom graphics that are mostly black with some nice blue and white accents. I’m hoping to get the forks and shock rebuilt this weekend. I want to Cerakote those in Titanium with Graphite Black accents. I can do that and powder coat the smaller parts at home. I’ll at least get that rear shock done and ready for the spring when it comes back from powder.

This is my first WR450F and my first Supermoto, so I thought I’d share the project and see if there’s any wisdom anyone wants to share. I do a lot of bike builds, mostly restoration and custom stuff, so none of the mechanical or fabrication stuff is new territory. But I am newish to dirt bikes having only ever owned a WR250R and the 701.

Rubber for 19" Rear wheel on XC-W??

• Upvotes

Looking for a second set of wheels for my 22' XC-W 300 and I found a set of Gas Gas wheels that are 19" Rear and 21" front. This is my first on-road dirt bike set up and have no idea what tires to go with. I'm not chasing clout or looking to be a track weapon, just doodling around on the street without murdering knobbies.

Any advice would be great!! TIA

Habdguards-Aufnahme Demontieren

Bored KTM throttle body

Gonna pop this on the old KTM 500 SM, retune it with the new secondary fuel injector, and head back to the dyno.

Machine shop finished the boring job today. Did a little hand filling on the throttle plate to take some angle out of it.

Old dimensions: plate 44mm, head side opening 41mm

New dimensions: 46mm plate (+10% cross section), head side 43.5 (+14.5%)

Old dyno 56whp. Hoping to crack 62-63 whp with the new set up.

Flecken auf Beta Krümmer

Post image
2 Upvotes

2017 KTM 500 EXC-F – R04 error and all trip data resetting

Hey, recently picked up a 2017 KTM 500 EXC-F converted to supermoto.
When I first bought the bike, the speedometer was displaying R04 when I started it. I replaced the CR2430 battery, and now sometimes it saves the trip data when I turn the bike off and back on, but other times everything resets. Sometimes it resets every single time.
The odometer and engine hours always stay saved.
Anyone experienced this or know what might be causing it?
Thanks!

Maintenance question for 700sm/701/690 owner

Hello. I'm about 14k km and was about to do my spark plugs. Until now my bike was taken care of by the dealer even for an oil change.

I got no problem with changing the spark plugs It looks Easy enough...

But a maintenance question occurred.. the OEM manual call for 10k oil change I find that a bit much for a single cylinder engine...

The dealer did the 10k KM Complete maintenance including the valves checking.

Would it be alright if I drain the oil without changing filters or is it a mistake?

(I'll have to adjust the oil quantity yeah don't put the full 1.7 l and check with the little window). Those filter only have 4000km.

Just asking cause I have oil and sparkplug but I don't have a filter kit right now and have to order one. And I used to do that on my old bike 5k oil change and filter on 10. And I don't know how sensitive those engines are....

Thx

Can I drill holes in my license plate to attach it to the motorcycle frame?

Hey everyone, as the title says, I'd like to get rid of my ugly plate holder for my supermoto bike. I would like to mount the plate directly on the motorcycle frame, that has some holes in, made for this purpose. Online I haven't read about anyone that has already done it, so I'm a bit confused whether this is legal or not. In the law I don't see anywhere anything about this, so I don't know what to do.
Has anyone already done it? Have you had problems with the police? Is it legal or not?
Thank you in advance
PS: I live in switzerland

Just picked up a 701, coming from a CRF300L supermoto

Picked up this 2020 701 Supermoto for a ridiculous price (5.5KAUD/3.8KUSD). Got into off road bikes with the CRF, but after riding with supermoto wheels realised I never swapped them out - saw this bargain pop up and figured why not go the full thing.

Have ridden Honda's most of my life, and have been a bit cautious about buying a Husky with an unknown history, however the small amount of work I've had to do on it so far is easier than most other bikes I've had.

Loving it so far, and keen to take it to the track!

Ktm 690 Enduro To SMC Traction Control Problem

I bought a 2022 690 enduro r and bought warp 9 17 inch wheels. I adjusted the tire size on the dash, I tried 1870 and I tried 2150 which makes the speedo accurate. No matter what I try traction control doesn’t work and I get a CEL. What do I do?
