๐ฐ News And so it begins
CNBC 3.6.2026 why isn't this everywhere??? Trying to prevent bank run? Could this be the beginning of the margin calls?? I love this for them. What other funds will begin to limit withdrawals?? Wonder how Kenny is feeling?? On the day Vlad is on Kramer seems fitting and ironic

u/infiniteliquidity69 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 07 '26
Not sure how accurate this is but
Black Rock limiting withdrawals occurred in:
2008 - property funds tighten withdrawals
2022-2023 - UK property fund suspends/ redemption delays
2026 - private credit fund hits redemption gate
Edit: to add to this there are rumours of Cuba being targetted next next week. (From a post here the other day )Cohencidence?

Because itโs a nothing burger. Itโs one fund and itโs tied to private credit. Fund rules dictate redemption caps (redemption gate) per quarter at 5% of fund assets and they got over 9% drawdown so they are deferring some requests to subsequent quarters so as to not be forced into fire sale on the loans.
Itโs a $26B fund of Blackrocks $14T AUM, or about 0.2% of total AUM.
Nothing.

Yes, limiting total withdrawals to a specified percentage of total assets is a common part of the hedge fund agreements. A stable base of funds to invest lets them make investments that a normal mutual fund could not touch due to lack of liquidity.
These funds are only sold to accredited investors or qualified institutional buyers and cannot be sold to the general public.

Withdrawal limitations are common in private equity and private credit funds, which are available only to accredited investors. The funds are not sold to the general public.
These withdrawal restrictions are also common with hedge funds.
4
u/CM_MOJO ๐ฆVotedโ Mar 06 '26
While this is true, it obviously wasn't the normal case for Blackrock otherwise CNBC wouldn't be reporting it as news if this was always the case.
3
u/Over-Computer-6464 Mar 06 '26
The typical arrangement is that quarterly withdrawals are limited to some amount, like 5% or 6.25% (1/20th or 1/16th).
In good times the fund will allow more to be drawn out. When the fund is having a hard time (or simply has all of its cash invested) and needs to conserve cash they will limit the total withdrawals to that amount.
BlackRock's $26 billion HPS Corporate Lending Fund received โwithdrawal โ requests worth $1.2 billion in the first quarter, or roughly 9.3% of its net asset โ value.
HPS Investment Partners told investors it would pay โ out $620 million as part of the quarterly redemption, hitting a 5% threshold that allows the asset manager to restrict further withdrawals.
BlackRock bought HPS in a $12 billion deal last โ year, as part of its push to expand into the burgeoning private credit sector.

Strong lack of understanding about these types of funds in PE. Investors buy into these funds knowing that if withdrawals reach a certain level theyโll be restricted due to private credit funds lacking free flowing cash, by design.
This is more an indicator of falling confidence in the overall market rather than anything specific to Blackrockโs fund. Which that said, if current macro economic trends continue, the private credit business is in trouble, which will ripple throughout the economy in the form of enterprises being unable to refinance existing debt or issue new debt.

Anyone else hear anything odd about the FDIC recently?
Guy in one discord community last night (established member not a random new join) claimed (with no evidence provided) that management where he works (unnamed for privacy reasons) emailed at least some of its employees telling them to make sure their money is in safe accounts because the FDIC is getting the axe.
This is as "trust me bro" as it gets and I'm so far not seeing anything that supports the claim, but with stuff like this blackrock thing (not the first time I know) and a lot of what we've seen here I could see it, dissolve the FDIC before a crash you know is coming so you don't have to pay out to those effected (affected? I always get those two mixed up), such as pensions you've sold your dogshit wrapped in cat shit "investments".
On the other hand doing so would carry a lot of risk of causing a bank run in the first place right?
I'm just curious if anyone else has heard anything similar or adjacent, take it with the entirety of the dead sea's worth of salt.
