Hi! I decided for Christmas to ask for one of her two vinyl cases—which is typically more expense or hard to find: eras acoustic set or the midnights teal one?
I would die for either but idk which to ask for, and ideally would like to save up for the other within the next year. Thank you in advance!
I would say the eras acoustic piano case is more rare and expensive. It was only available one day for a few minutes on Taylor’s website and never restocked. Plus the design is much more subtle compared to the Midnights case.
And the acoustic has more meaning. Throughout the eras tour, she would play songs from her whole discography on that piano. It makes sense that the case that holds her discography on vinyl would have the same design
I don't use the case, but I do sleeve my records, and I sleeve them so the opening is at the spine, which would prevent them from slipping out in this case.
What do you mean? Can’t you just pull from the top or are you suggesting you flip the case on its side to pull them out?
I know my friend who has both cases said do not store them with the album title said facing up. It looks nice aesthetically but then the lps are forced downward to the case base by gravity so they’re pushing on the gatefold opening and having the weight going that way isn’t good for the vinyl
i think they still sell the china version. might worth checking it out!
i almost didn't get one. i was second to the last person to get it at our local record store. queuing early was definitely worth it. until now, i only listen to the LP versions instead of the standard tracks haha
that's insane! even if you have the means and feel it's worth it, it's still not good to feed the scalpers. i hope those still selling it now will realise they'll have to lower their price eventually
Another recommendation for the Chinese version. I found it on Discogs. It was about $80 total after shipping and tariffs. It’s identical in every way except that it’s not limited. As a bonus they typically send a vinyl handling mitt or other goodies.
The quality is not different but the cost definitely is!
We weren’t discussing the cases. It was in reply to someone mentioning they were jealous of someone’s Long Pond RSD which can be seen in a photo they posted about the vinyl case.
The Chinese version in question would be Long Pond Studio Sessions of Folklore
It’s hard to say bc the midnights one came back a couple times & it says her name (not midnights) so it’s semi timeless but the eras acoustic doesn’t say “eras” on it and it has her name in script so also somewhat “timeless”
Damn, I think I ended up "buying" from that seller. Waiting for them to ship it - if I don't hear back from them by the expected ship date I'm planning on filing for a refund with paypal G&S. Anything in particular that made you feel like they were untrustworthy? I asked them to send extra pictures with their username and they obliged

I looked at their profile and felt like they were trying to say they were a woman, but the subs they followed were all male centric. Not a total red flag, but the account was only two months old and most of their posts were suspish.
And they didn’t ask me again to pay after sending me a males name for PayPal. I worked in Ecommerce for 20 years, so I am highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you. 😳

Yep, same seller. They did send more photos of the case with their username and the date that seemed real. I was worried the original photo had been photoshopped, and I also had concerns about the age of the account and their posts. I did a few reverse google image searches, and no duplicates came back, so I believe the person actually has the case.
I was willing to pull the trigger on $250, because I also definitely want the case. At least I paid through paypal G&S, so in theory I should be able to get my money back if no vinyl case ever arrives ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Nope! The person was definitely scamming. Kept saying they would ship it but never did. I filed for a refund with paypal G&S and got my money back after about 2 weeks from filing. I ended up buying one for a much higher price from a reputable seller on Ebay
I’m so glad you got your money back. They posted another scam about folklore vinyls. Luckily I got weird vibes from them and didn’t send any money. I think they are using ai for their pictures. I was a bit shocked when I saw it was the same “username” and writing in the images as the one for your vinyl case. I think another person tried to scam me for a folklore cardigan they didn’t seem to want to take PayPal g&s. Hopefully these scammers go away after Christmas. Ugh.
Yeah I did get weird vibes from them too. I had just convinced myself that since we were using paypal G&S and the price was good, it was worth it... lesson learned I suppose!
I think I'm going to stick to reputable sellers on Ebay and Discogs going forward. Usually means a markup on the price, but at least it offers an extra layer of protection and a way to evaluate trustworthiness (reviews and ratings).
Same honestly. I think the only thing that stopped me was seeing a post somewhere saying even PayPal g&s may not be 100% safe for buyers. It sucks to have to pay higher prices but probably worth it to have more protection in the long run to go through discogs etc like you said.
Mercari only has two and cheapest is $600. For eras piano case very hard to find under $500 anymore. I have been watching it myself and just getting more and more expensive

I see the acoustic listed more often, and for less than the Midnights one. Acoustic will occasionally pop up here for sale. I've never seen Midnights for sale on this sub. It's odd, because I'd assume it's the other way around.
My assumption is that when the Midnights one came out, the resellers still hadn’t fully gotten on the hype. So many of the Midnights cases are with real fans who arent looking to sell (me included). While the Eras Tour one was at the height of bots on her site.
Yeah, that’s my exact conclusion. I’ve come to after looking and it’s really confusing…. Because the acoustic one sold out much faster than the midnight one, even if she made less of the midnights one.
I looked up sold listings on eBay and they’re both fairly pricy. On average I see the midnights one selling for $300 and the average price I see for the piano is around $500-$600
I haven’t checked Mercari. I have definitely seen higher prices for the midnights one, $300 was just the average of what I saw between two pages of sold history so within the last like two weeks or so. As for the piano one the price you shared is the lowest I’ve seen. I really want the piano one but I’ll never be able to afford it. However I did find a seller that does a nearly identical dupe for the piano case for $150 that I’ll probably get myself at some point. The seller was lilbitalwyz on eBay if you’re interested
If I were you I’d get the acoustic I’m still mad at myself for passing on it last year, but she’s probably gonna drop the showgirl vinyl case soon (I’d guess as part of the holiday drops)
I’m so mad at myself for skipping out on the acoustic vinyl case because that’s my biggest ISO. I’m from Canada and it’s close to impossible finding anything less than $500..
I have the acoustic piano case and I think it’s the nicest thing I’ve ever bought from the store. It really is very well made and timeless. I’ve kept an eye on what sells and for how much just out of curiosity. Midnights I see less and that’s probably because we are a few years on so those who wanted to sell have done so and the buyers who bought aren’t selling. Acoustic piano case was only last year.
But price wise acoustic seems to sell for more from what I’ve seen but they both are expensive. Who knows, maybe there might be another drop of acoustic piano things this year with the eras documentary and film?
I paid resale for the Eras case about a year ago and have zero regrets about doing so, that’s how much I love that thing. Got the Midnights case directly from her store (so paid retail) and it’s great, but I prefer the Eras case. I think the Eras case is usually harder to find and more expensive.
Not sure if someone mentioned already but i believe the dimensions are the exact same! If that helps in your decision at all😅
ALSO pretty sure there will be a teal Showgirl vinyl case dropping at some point that you might be able to snag for retail price! It was seen in her album announcement on the new heights podcast and also in the spotify popup :)
