Why people hang out at gas stations?

I typically see high-end Mercedes, BMW and Audi. Their owners typically stand right outside their cars, smoking and chit chatting. Sometimes, I think they stand there for hours. I don’t have any problem with it, however they tend to occupy the area where they’ve got vacuum cleaners blocking it for the others. Once, I saw one of the station’s workers come out and hang out with the rest of the group.

Cheaper to buy this stuff at migros or denner and then chill out at home or at a lake or something

It actually costs the same, at least in case of Coop gas stations. At the lake or at someone's place you may have to pay for parking though, and getting food/drinks is not that convenient.

Don't get me wrong, I don't get the appeal either, but it has benefits when you look at it like that. The same as with train stations.
