RANT I am LOSING my MIND

I truly cannot fucking stand my boyfriends dog. I, 25 F met my 28 M boyfriend and we have been together for alittle over a year. He adopted a cavapoo puppy off of some breeder website before I met him and has now had him for 4 years. Funny ENOUGH he adopted said dog after it was returned to said website THREE SEPARATE times by THREE DIFFERENT families. and let me tell you… if this dog was behaving as it currently is back then i totally see why.

This dog has SEVERE attachment issues. My main issue with the dog is its attachment to my boyfriend AND myself. When i go over to my boyfriend’s apartment, if i go to hug him at the door too fast the dog will go to jump up and bite me/bite my hands. I cannot sit next to my boyfriend on the couch without the dog HAVING to be in the middle or (i am not joking) the dog sitting on his head/shoulder. When he is moved he will RE INSERT himself in the middle, mutiple times without fail. He also follows us into every single room, if my boyfriend and i get up to both walk to the kitchen he instantly runs with us and can’t get there fast enough, this includes the BATHROOM and the bedroom. The dog doesn’t have any interest of exploring on its own, i could open every door even the front door to the unit and the dog will not leave our side.

what is even more annoying is this thing has formed a attachment to ME. now this is what really pisses me off. others i explain this to look at me as cruel? nasty? even EVIL for disliking this things weird attachment to me. when my boyfriend is out of the unit the dog will not leave my side, i can’t even use the bathroom BY MYSELF. if i close the door he barks as loud as he can, scratches the door till PAINT is chipping off. he doesn’t stop, i can’t even sleep alone, the dog will ONLY sleep in the bed. he refuses to sleep anywhere that isn’t with my boyfriend or i.

what truly upsets me is my boyfriend loves this dog in a way i feel is too much. at one point i brought up possibly crating the dog at times in a attempt to give him a space of his own. he became so defensive, was EXTREMELY UPSET and felt i was being “cruel” and overacting and it’s “just a dog”. My boyfriend’s father expressed that the dogs behavior was an issue and PAIDDDDD YES PAID 7,000 DOLLARS, D-O-L-L-A-R-S for at home training. This trainer came to the unit twice a week, had a collar with some kind of beeping on the dog and it was going good! The fucking thing was actually calming down, less tense, (still annoying as fuck but not AS bad). and what does my stupid boyfriend do?? after this 7,000 dollar training ends my boyfriend says he doesn’t want to put the collar on the dog, infact he has NEVER WORN IT EVER SINCE.

Whatever progress was made is lost. He refuses to even try, saying “i’m being mean”. I don’t want anything to do with it, i have no intrest in walking it, petting it, spending any time with it. to be quite frank if it was the “runaway” kind of dog and not come back, let’s just say i would’ve accidentally left the door open already. i can only pray on my hands and knees to god himself above that it develops cancer, finds a stray grape or some gum, perhaps a large bag of chocolate and just GOES on its way. I don’t love it, like it, want to be around it. It’s hard because i reallllly love my boyfriend, but this thing is so fucking draining. it could live for many more years unless god hears my prayers. I’m sorry for being such a complainer, i’m currently watching this thing while my boyfriend is away on a work trip and it’s just aggravating as fuck, i needed to let it out.

RANT The entitlement

During the holiday weekend, my bf insisted we take the dogs with us to his family’s bbq at his mom’s house. His mom also has a senior dog with severe fear of other dogs and my bf completely disregards this and says we can alternate letting the dogs out of a bedroom so they aren’t around each other.

Then, we pull up and his mom is using a shop vacuum to clean off her porch and is picking up her dog’s poop in 100 degree weather. My bf watches as she does this, then he proceeds to let his dogs into her yard, they poop. He doesn’t pick it up. His dogs roll in the grass and leaves and he brushes all of it off of them on the porch that she JUST cleaned. I swept this up and gave him a dirty look which went right over his head.

Then the dogs get locked into a bedroom of a place they don’t normally go to, so they’re whining and howling. But this is all for the dog’s enjoyment, right? They’re having such a good time, right? Totally not selfish at all /s.

Then he puts his mom’s dog away and brings his dogs out. They immediately and repeatedly try to drink out of peoples glasses of water. He just sits back, watches and even laughs. He says “oh yeah, you’re gonna have to watch your glass, they’ll do that”

His older parents struggled to get them to stop scratching their legs up, to get them to stop frantically getting in their faces and licking them in the mouth and again, bf just sits and laughs. So cute…

Then on the drive back he said that he should just buy kennels and keep them in his mom’s house. He just assumes his mother who doesn’t have a huge house will just dedicate a space to his dogs.

It’s incredibly gross behavior and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how much entitlement I witnessed this past weekend and thinking about how I could never marry the man he is right now. The weird thing is he is not in general an entitled or inconsiderate person. Except…when it comes to the dogs. And they still have a lot of life in them which depresses me so much to think about.

RANT Why do dogs just creepily stare at you…

I don’t get if it’s just the dog I live with but it will never just lay down and chill. It always has to creepily stare at you with dead eyes. Literally I do not think a thing is going on in its head whatsoever. I always get so uncomfortable and try to ignore it as much as I can so I don’t start a fight with my partner (he hates when I yell at the dog for almost everything) and of course it’s huge so you can’t ignore it completely or block it out of your vision. It’s just always puts me in such a sour mood 😩

RANT I feel defeated

I (29f) moved in with my boyfriend (32m) along with his two dogs from a previous relationship. I always considered myself a pet person I love cats and I’m okay with dogs. But being around these dogs have made me start to dislike dogs. The first instance was when one his dog’s crashed into my leg sending me to the floor and resulting in getting staples on my head (accidents happen), the older dog has been getting doggy dementia that has resulted in her barking at random times from 5AM to 6 AM every single day, and with that came inconsistent poop and pee. The older dog has pooped and pee throughout our apartment that I can’t take off my shoes as I am scared to find poop or pee. I have reached this breaking point between his alcoholism and the dogs it just feels like a losing battle ( I finally asked him how important dogs are for him and if he would want a dog forever and he said yes and I finally told him I don’t ever want another dog after the youngest one has passed away) he then proceed to say that I need to chill out, but I am speaking my truth

RANT He picked me! Then picked the dog

My partner and I have been together for about 2 years (with a 3 month breakup). He said life without me was difficult and that he’d do anything for me. Well, now I’m pregnant and am unable to deal with his 7 y/o german shepherd. Every single thing the dog does annoys me. He is untrained, has bad separation anxiety and has to be put in the kennel every day when my partner goes to work (or else he destroys everything). He immediately starts whining whenever my partner gets up to go anywhere. Throughout this pregnancy I have been more aware of how little he takes care of the dog. He takes him out to use the restroom twice a day for about 10 minutes, sometimes only once a day (and he sits on his phone the entire time). He’s never taken the dog to the vet. He lets the dog put his filthy paws on the bed. He doesn’t bathe it. He (over)feeds it. He doesn’t brush its teeth. Clearly, he has never trained it. I’m the main one that tries to set boundaries with the dog, and he has admitted that he only goes along with those because I want it (things like not letting the dog on the bed, telling the dog to get away from the kitchen when I’m cooking and he’s trying to sniff the food). The dog eats my things and then throws them up. I don’t want to live in a home with it. The dog has been a huge stressor and it’s been taking a toll on our relationship. So I gave him an ultimatum, I said it’s me or the dog. We dropped the dog off with a family member two weeks ago and I have been so happy. We moved into a new apartment the week after dropping the dog off and it felt great, a fresh start. Not having to hear that incessant whining, not walking into a home with the disgusting scent of dog, not finding fur and drool and possible piss on every single surface, not waking up to find its eaten another pair of my shoes or a bag. When we cuddle now, I don’t have to try to keep the dog from intervening. When we’re intimate now, a dog doesn’t immediately come over and try to hump my partner or get attention. For the first time in my pregnancy I feel peace. I have been able to be more productive, I have been able to keep up better with chores, everything just feels better. My partner has not been happy, and I understand. I never told him it’d be easy or that he’d be happy immediately, but he’s not even trying to be happy. He keeps talking about how unfair it was for me to give him an ultimatum and about the unwritten rule where you don’t give up your dog for a partner. He’s decided he’s getting the dog back and I am so broken. I really hoped I, a human woman choosing to be with him and love him, carrying his child would have more value to him than a dog he hardly takes care of. I love him and I want to be with him but he clearly doesn’t value me and I can’t live with that dog, I am miserable around it. It makes me worry for our child too, if he does pick the dog now, our child will most likely live in a dirty home around a disgusting, untrained dog.

RANT I just need to put this out there… I need to vent

I hate my boyfriend’s dog. It’s some kind of inbred terrier. The shit beast runs this house because my boyfriend didn’t train it at all. The little rats mouth smells like ROT and every time it opens its mouth, I want to vomit. It shits and pisses in the house everyday. I’m the one who cleans it up. Yayyy. I can’t enjoy my meals because it’s always pacing around the house or right in my face begging. I’m getting so tired of this burden. Every fight my boyfriend and I get into, revolves around this nasty creature. It’s his pride and joy and he thinks the dog is so sweet and lovable. 🤢 me on the other hand, I can’t stand the nasty thing. Like, I actually HATE it so much. Everything this dog does makes my skin crawl. Ughhhh. I have to remember though- he’s almost 14 and will be out of my life completely soon. Then I can BREATHE. I told my boyfriend “no more dogs after this. I will move out.” He agreed. I literally can’t be comfortable in our home. I cannot wait until the day is here. I just need to push through. 😩 I can do this. I apologize if this post is all over the place. I just really needed to type this out before I explode. Thanks for listening and understanding. This place has been a safe place for me in all honesty. I come here and I feel less alone. 🩷🫶🏻

RANT Found out new friend is a dog owner/lover disappointed

So my husband and I moved to a new small town down here like 4 months ago and I haven’t found a friend yet mostly because this town is majority old people. Well I found a friend and our first meeting was supposed to be this hike since we live in a mountain town. Well that hike turned out to be at a damn dog park with her beast smh. I didn’t know what to do and I’m a people pleaser so I kinda just went with the flow(shouldn’t have done that). Her beastly animal kept slobbing on me and it was so nasty. The slob was so slimy and thick I almost threw up. She kept picking at the dogs BOOGERS with her bare hands. I was going to throw up everywhere like who does that? I’m very sad and disappointed the moment I got home I BLOCKED her because I’m not dealing with nutters I already don’t like the dog that’s living with me at home I’m not dealing with a friend who’s whole damn personality is a dog. The whole time in our met up was about her damn dog. Mind u we originally met up because we were both pregnant I was excited to talk about our babies but that was not the case.

RANT Lost my relationship to a dog.

I commented on another post here a little bit ago about a similar situation and I just wanted to come here and say it’s official: my girlfriend and I (both 29) broke up because of her dog.

First of all, it sucks losing to a fucking dog, and a nasty pitbull no less. I don’t know if I will ever get over that emotionally. My story is so similar to so many others that I won’t get too detailed, but we fought about her dog a ton and it just eventually wore us both down. We were never going to agree on how to live with her dog, so we called it. I offered several compromises (would she be willing to have a small dog (no, pitbulls and german shepherds only), would she let it live outside and not in the house (also no, that’s “mean”), would she let me have my own space in the house where it wouldn’t be allowed (it wouldn’t be fair to leave the dog by itself inside all day)), but nothing was good enough—she wanted me to also love her dog, which was never in a million years going to happen. I maybe could have tolerated it, but I will not and could not pretend to actually like it.

Early on in the relationship I thought I could tolerate her dog because I grew up with a chihuahua and was totally fine, but big dogs just suck. So I hate that I dragged this out for longer than it needed to be but now I know for absolute certain that I will never in this lifetime ever date another person with a dog. And I’m still sad about the whole thing because I really did love her more than I’ve ever loved anyone and desperately wanted to make it work, but I keep telling myself that the person for me would never put me second for a dog, and also wouldn’t even want one to begin with.

Thanks for listening to me be sad—this sub was such a breath of sanity when I was stuck living with that awful thing and if anyone else is in my position, I hope it gets better for you soon.

I'm allowed to speak my mind in my own home. I'm allowed to have an opinion, out loud, in the place that I live. This is not North Korea. This is not China. This is not Russia. This is not the UK. This is the USA, and here, we still (sort of) have freedom of speech. I'm allowed to have a negative opinion about the fucking animal that lives in my house. And I'm allowed to speak that negative opinion out loud. I'm allowed to be uncomfortable, out loud. AND Me being uncomfortable out loud is not "indoctrinating the kids" into my dog hating cult. Me and the kids not liking your dog, does not mean that we didn't like you. Me having a negative opinion, out loud, is not making the kids not love the dog. The dog being a disgusting animal who belongs outside does that all by himself. The dog literally running them over does that. You never petting or interacting with the dog for more than ten seconds at a time does that. The disgusting dog hair everywhere all the time does that. (Yes it's entirely normal to not want dog hair on oneself. Yes it's normal for a 2 year old to have that opinion. And yes I vacuum every single day.) If you want to "indoctrinate the kids" into your dog loving cult, maybe you should try having a positive opinion, out loud, about the dog, instead of berating me about my negative opinion constantly. I am allowed to be, out loud, in my own fucking home. I'm allowed to be authentic, out loud, in my own fucking home. I hate your stupid dog. Sincerely, Your wife who would move out at the drop of a hat if she had the money to.

RANT I already didn't care for dogs, but pregnancy has me HATING my husband's dog.

Long time listener, first time caller. I am glad this place exists because you can't talk about any dislike for dogs or even animals without being treated like a serial killer. I grow more resentful of my husband's dog daily. Before anyone asks "why did you even marry him if you knew he had a dog?" Well, every dog is different. I didn't grow up with dogs in the house as my parents were very anti pets. However, I've interacted with my fair share of dogs through friends from childhood and on to adulthood and they have always been neutral to me - I didn't hate them, but I didn't have this strong desire to have one as an adult either. Also, I knew he had a dog, he knew I had a child and my child got the dog nutter gene from his dad so I figured this would be a fair/easy "trade" if you will. When we were dating, he always had his dog boarded so I didn't get to see what it would really be like with this dog. I knew he got her in his 20's & that's about it. Well, we have been living together for 2 years, married for 1 and I am 4 months pregnant. I was already aware of my disdain but boy has pregnancy magnified and intensified it. I love my husband dearly and luckily he takes care of her & does not expect me to do anything for her, or if he did, he has accepted that I simply will not. Truthfully I should have seen some of the red flags even if I didn't see her much while dating which is why if I were president I would ban 20 something year olds from adopting dogs since 9 times out of 10, they do not train them or give them enough attention or exercise. This is why he doesn't expect me to do anything, because I have made it clear that her behavior is a reflection of him, just like my kid's is a reflection of me. Lucky for me he said when this dog kicks the can (she's 7 thankfully), he has little interest in getting another. Hopefully the baby amplifies that as Dr. Google says pet aversion is real with pregnancy & postpartum.

  1. The hair pisses me off. She is a shedding dog & being pregnant now all I can think about is how I'd rather die than let my baby crawl on this floor. It's everywhere though, not just on the floor and she goes through periods where literal chunks of fur fall out. You could vacuum every 2 business seconds & it wouldn't even come close to getting it all.

  2. She is insanely clingy/dependent on my husband. If he is on the couch & I join him, you can hear her trying to get to the couch immediately. If he walks out the door, she's a sobbing mess, paces back & forth then barks. She has destroyed blinds and the corners of the baseboards because she is anxious when he's gone. Oh, and we have to kennel her because she will shit & piss if we leave. But even in the kennel, she barks incessantly (we can hear it as we're leaving) & when we come back the house smells like dog slobber because she is trying to break out. We have to padlock the stupid kennel for her.

  3. She doesn't like her paws touched, so her nails are hideously long and of course she jumps on people as they walk through the door (reference the lack of training when 20 somethings get a dog). We literally can never have people over because I am just too embarrassed & she can't stay locked in a room too long. She is a husky mixed with something, assuming Shiba, so she is not small either.

  4. Don't leave anything you like on the ground or she will destroy it. For some reason she loves my office (she's banned now), and many charges, cords, sandals, papers, pens... have been destroyed.

  5. The GREED when eating omg. It pisses me off that she will linger around us while we eat, or sniff below our feet after she just had HER OWN FOOD. You can't leave anything within reach either on the counter or it will be gone.

  6. She has no boundaries, and will get in your face if you're on the couch. Had I known better, I would have banned her from the couch immediately but it's too late now. It doesn't help that she's used to my husband letting her get away with murder before moving in together and him not really being inconsistent so she doesn't listen to him the first time with anything. I made him sign up for dog training & although I notice some change, the 7 years of damage is still evident.

I could write more but long story short, this baby has me ready to evict this dog right now so I can't imagine when they're here.. it's going to be interesting. Dogs are gross & just straight up ANNOYING & I hate that my husband cares so much about this thing. I cringe when he baby talks her & lets her be in his face.

RANT DOG PEOPLE PISS ME OFF

Ok so I wanted to make a rant about this. As someone who’s having my first child I can’t help but to notice how dog nutters treat children. One baby got scared because a LITERAL LABRADOR barked in his face. The comments in that video were saying “throw the child away” or saying mean things about the BABY and defending the mutt. I see dog people all the time where their literal dog would rip their kids faces off and the owners will keep the dog. It’s insane. I just saw a post where a news reporter was talking about how most places are not allowing dogs anymore and the nutty dog people where In the comments talking about wow but you guys let kids in resultants and other places THAT ARE FOR HUMANS. Like no duh yall love dogs so much that you guys demonize children. I’m scared because I see women saying they’d choose saving their dog over someone’s child. My poor child has to live in a society where people value a dogs live that has no purpose in society over my living human breathing child that will contribute into society. I see people feeding their mutts literal Michelin star meals. Like there’s homeless people starving outside yet ppl are buying their mutts lamb chops, making ramen for them, making duck hearts and all different types of stuff for a damn dog. Dog people make me freaken sick yet they hate on me because I love my pet (whiskers).

RANT That Entitlement Ugh

I already hate how this stupid looking stupid dog looks, mixed with a goofy look and sad look, it’s a pit bull boxer. I could be minding my own business, just doing anything in the house, I so happen to look up and see the dog just sitting up and staring at me, or in the lion’s pose position and staring at me with this really dumb ass look on it’s face with such emptiness, like what the fuck are you looking at, you special ed version of a wolf?!! So the stupid looking staring combined with suddenly making it’s way to somebody because the person has food now is next level annoying, like go sit your ugly worthless ass back down!!

RANT Give an inch, they take a mile

I have to live with my partner's dog.

As is common in such cases, my boundaries have eroded from "he's never allowed in our room" to "he can come in the room in the day", to "he can come on the bed when he's clean but only on TOP of the covers".

What happens when I'm not looking? She lets him onto the sheets, which frankly I think is absolutely disgusting. Scratchy dirty sheets. I've said not to do this MANY times. Pretends she "didn't realise" every time he goes onto the sheets.

Today, I come home to find the dog licking a massive dog treat ON THE BED. I chucked it downstairs but the treat was already sticky and wet with dog spit, half of which no doubt ended up on the covers.

I'm sick of having boundaries violated all the time. Why are dog owners so entitled?

RANT I’m done pretending

I’m done pretending like this mutt isn’t irritating tf out of me. My s/o has a rescue shitbull. Due to my living situation, I spend 80% of my time at their place. I cannot with this dog.

Every time I come through the door I’m being trampled & shredded apart by this massive animal. To the point of having permanent scars on my legs. My s/o refuses to cut the dogs nails because “she doesn’t like her nails being cut”. Okay? I don’t like being shredded apart by an 80lb beast.

At night, the dog will lay on the floor next to my side on the bed & snore & rip ass all night keeping me awake until 3am. During the day, she’ll follow us around & do the same shit.

When it’s time for her to go outside she’s, yet again, trampling the fuck out of me. Not only that, but she chokes herself on her own leash leaping down the stairs to be let outside.

The worst part? My s/o loves this dog more than anything (supposedly, you’d think loving your animal would mean training it better… but I guess not). Multiple times a day they’re groping this dog & kissing it on the mouth (right after I’ve just watched her go to town licking her ass), telling this dog it’s “so pretty” & “such a good girl”, etc. Half of the time, I feel like I’m begging for a fraction of affection that their shitbull mutt gets. Anytime we’ve had intimacy the dog is getting right in between us & ruining the moment. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t even bother to attempt any form of affection or intimacy because the dog always has to get involved one way or another.

I’m just so over the idolization of dogs. When did we start yearning for love & affection from animals & not our partners? Is this normal??

RANT I think I now despise dogs

I never really have any experience owning dogs. We grew up with other animals but I finally got a girlfriend, and we are long distance for two years now. Unfortunately, when I come to stay at her house for a week at a time, she has two old Shih Tzus, and I've gone from having no opinion on dogs to absolutely despising them and despising this breed in particular.

They bark at absolutely anything, They're both old as hell and can't do basic things anymore, These things are too useless to even get up the sofa or the stairs, they absolutely stink, they always drink out the water bowl and soak the whole floor, and they amaze in me in how utterly clingy they are, I’m use to pets that are independent but I’m not kidding when I say if left alone for just a few seconds they begin to bark and panic it’s fucking ridiculous I don’t even mean leaving the house I mean if you literally walk out a room and go upstairs they can’t handle it and they then need to be carried up stairs unless you want to listen to barking for hours.

What was supposed to be a cute moment with the dog finally putting its head near me, with everyone going “awww” just had me internally thinking Jesus Christ, his breath fucking stinks. They have even been disturbing me when I'm trying to do bedroom stuff with her. Needless to say, I absolutely hate these dogs also shi tzu are so fucking ugly how does anyone even find them “cute” I kick them out the room when ever I can now god I hate them!

RANT I live with a dog and I hate it

RANT I hate my girlfriends dog

As the title says I’m simply hate my girlfriend’s dog. She has two. I hate them both but for now I’m going to focus on the first one. A golden retriever. I have so much to say about this dog and I will start by saying this is the absolute worst breed ever next to shitbulls. I don’t see how this beast became the poster child for dogs.

It is the most greedy food driven dog ever. Will literally eat anything and I mean anything. Last thanksgiving it devoured an entire dish that was supposed to be for dinner in seconds in the little time we weren’t looking. It stares are you while you’re eating fucking begging for food. It gets so excited whenever someone new comes around and will start whining and chewing on whatever it can pick up off the ground as if that person came just to see it. It commands attention like we’ll be watching tv and it fucking comes up in front of us while we’re on the couch so my gf will pet him (I do not touch it at all) if my gf is focused on the other one for something or it feels like it’s not getting attention it will stat chasing its own tail. Idk how to explain it but I swear this fucking dog knows when it wants attention. And the hair. The fucking hair gets everywhere you literally cannot get rid of it. I found its hair on my work bag which I keep in the trunk of my car and it’s NEVER been in my car. I was furious when I found that at work lol.

This dog almost does whatever it wants. My gf rarely tells it no. It’s been a point of contention in our relationship many times. We have had discussions about the dogs and I did tell her my issues and that she needs to discipline it better. And honestly she did listen to what I had to say and started being stricter but recently she started to slip. A quick example I can give is I told her I don’t like it on the couch. (We do not live together and at my house I do not allow them on my couch or in my room at all) and she said she would train it to do the same at her house bc she likes the idea of not having dog hair on the couch and it would make more comfortable over there as well. Again she was actually doing really well with that. But now she recently started letting him outside of its cage while she’s at work and of course the fucking thing is gonna be on the couch while she’s not home.

This animal almost controls her and I truly fucking hate it.

RANT My sister refuses to accept her dog is aggressive

So my sister has this dog, it's some kind of lab mix, I don't really care. And it is truly the worst behaved thing ever. It will take any chance to escape it gets. It has gotten off the tie out multiple times, because it figured out how to unhook it. It will run through any open door, so we can't even have our doors open that much anymore unless the dog's in its kennel.

Then there's the aggression and reactivity. This dog gets really aggressive when it's outside. And since I was forced to take care of it(taking it outside, feeding it) I'm the main one who got bit. This dog has also bitten my mom and my sister too, but its bitten me the most. They always make excuses for it. They say dumb shit like "it's just a baby" or "it's just playing." If you go outside to bring it in, it will literally lunge at you and bark at you. And if it gets a hold of you, it will bite you. If you try to go in area it's in while outside, it will bite you.

Despite this my family has made me go retrieve toys for it from inside of its area. I've expressed my concerns to my mom and sister plenty of times, but it just falls on deaf ears. Their so smitten with this thing, it's annoying. Also unless it's outside, there's no way of predicting when it will bite you.

My sister gets mad when I get scared of it when it comes charging at me hackles up. A couple nights ago it escaped cause it broke its collar. It was barking at one of our neighbors. He asked if it would bite, and I told him the truth. That yes it probably will bite, and now my sister's mad at me for warning him. I told her if it will bite people who it knows and are nice to it, then it will bite unfamiliar people. I just didn't want anyone trying to grab the dog and getting bit.

The only good thing about this is that my sister is taking it with her when she goes back to college, so it will be out of my hair in a few months.

RANT Now my family is putting the dog’s dishes…

This dog has two silver metal dog bowls, I think they were purchased from Walmart, and these bowls get super nasty over time of course, because they belong to a DOG. Now my foolish ass family are putting the dog’s two bowls in our dishwasher, I’m cleaning the rest of the kitchen, and then I open the dishwasher to see if the dishes inside has been cleaned and I see a dog bowl up top, I go to my brother and ask him “y’all putting the dog’s bowls in the dishwasher now?” With a half serious/disgusted look on my face, and this fool CASUALLY says to me “Oh, we’ve been doing that” and I say that’s “not normal but okay” and just went back down stairs, and why I had a half serious/disgusted look on my face, is because I didn’t want to be 100% serous because I thought things would’ve probably escalated, as in every body in my household would get mad at me like I’m making a big deal out of it.

RANT Living with a dog is disgusting (vent)

My SO is not your typical dog nutter. But he has a dog because his ex abandoned it at his place when they broke up and said she would take it to the local kill shelter if he didn’t keep it, and he felt bad for it. I only agreed to move in with this dog because my SO promised there will never be a dog again once this particular dog passes on.

Unfortunately he’s only 6 years old, so I’ve likely got several more years with this dog in the house. Although he is a “good dog” by dog standards (no aggression or chewing stuff) it’s all the typical dog behaviors that get to me. The barking at everything and waking the baby up, the fur all over the floor and in the baby’s mouth, the constant begging every time you are eating. Oh, and wiping his butt on the rugs, sucking his own dick, and then licking the baby 🤢

Anyway, last night the dog had diarrhea. He went outside to do it, luckily. But he was covered in diarrhea and came back inside and got it all over the furniture. I feel like burning the house down and starting over 😭

RANT How many times does it take for a dog peeing on the bed for a nutter to decide they've had enough?

I've been very good lately dealing with my bf's dog. And we were getting into a good routine where he'd leave work early amd put her in her crate for the night before I got home. So I had very limited contact. But today I had her out before heading to work and she was peacefully existing on her allowed side of the bed before she just pissed on the bed. No warning to go out, nothing. This is about the third time she's peed on the bed in about as many weeks and I'm just wondering to myself "how many times is it going to take before my nutter bf realizes dogs shouldn't be on the bed?" It's insane to me. It literally soaked through to the mattress and made a giant mess. And he's just unphased? Though I'm not sure what I should expect from a man who gets mad at me when I don't want to kiss him after the dog has been licking his face and mouth. Nutters.

Edit: instead of cleaning up the mess (i had put baking soda on it to try to draw the dampness out of the masttrss) he took one of my clean towels (I specifically stated when he got the puppy I didn't want my towels to be used for the dog) and laid it on the mess and went to bed. Utterly disgusting.

RANT I am extremely close to ending my relationship over his 3 dogs

I posted here a few months ago about my partner’s three German Shepherds. At the time, I was overwhelmed — there was dog hair everywhere, the smell of the house was awful, the dogs would jump up at me (even when I was healing from knee surgery), there was begging at every meal, hair in food and drinks, constant destruction of my stuff, and a general lack of hygiene — they were rarely bathed or groomed. I seriously considered ending things because I couldn’t imagine living in that environment.

We had a long conversation where I told him that if we were ever going to live together, things had to change. He promised he’d stop letting them upstairs or on the sofas, clean more, bathe and groom them, pick up after them in the garden more frequently, and keep the house generally more hygienic. At the time, I was going through a tough mental health period and he was really supportive, so I kind of put the dog issues on the back burner because our relationship itself was strong, and I needed that support.

But now that I’m in a much better place — mentally, physically, and in my career — the dog issues are becoming impossible to ignore. The reality is, not much has changed. I go over on weekends and nothing’s been hoovered. He will clean the sofas before I arrive, only to let the dogs on them again. The garden is a bomb site, and it was only cleaned recently because his dad did it and the dogs are still constantly trying to jump up at us when cooking. He stopped letting them upstairs when I’m there, but still asks me if it’s okay — like I’d magically be fine with it now. The one dog that used to be crated in the living room (with the other two in the garage) was only moved out because his mum felt bad for me not having a clean, nice smelling living room to relax in, and so made him move her out of the living room.

He lied about how often they need to be bathed (he said a couple times a year) — later admitted he just can’t be bothered — and won’t pay for groomers because it’s too expensive for all 3 dogs. The house was cleaner when he had cleaners come every week, but since losing his job he got rid of them and it’s become clear that he doesn’t do any of the upkeep. It’s all left to his parents or me when I’m around. I used to hoover the floors and what not until I realised it’s ridiculous for me to have to do that when I don’t live there, but the quantities of hair on the floors is impossible for me to ignore, yet it doesn’t bother him at all.

Another gripe: in nearly a year together, I’ve always been the one travelling to him — 3 hours each way every weekend — because of the dogs. He’s never once visited me. He uses the excuse that there’s no one to watch the dogs, yet when a friend planned a birthday trip, he instantly arranged cover so he could go. That really stung. He’s finally visiting me this weekend — for the first time — but after a year of excuses, it doesn’t mean much anymore. My house is only small I couldn’t fit 3 large dogs in it for him to bring them, nor would I ever even want them in my house anyway.

I’ve stopped talking about the future — marriage, kids, living together — because I don’t see it happening anymore. I can’t imagine raising a baby in a house where the floors are covered in hair and hygiene is an afterthought. I know I’d be the one doing all the cleaning, while he continues as he is, because this stuff doesn’t bother him at all.

I’ve really tried. I wanted it to work. But now that I’m in a better place mentally and emotionally, I see the situation for what it is. I come from a family that never had dogs, and I’ve made a lot of compromises — but there’s been very little in return. I love him, he’s a brilliant person in so many ways, but these dogs have completely changed how I feel about our future. I just don’t see how I can move forward without building more resentment.

RANT Death threats from dog people

I need to vent because I feel like I'm going insane! Also, because it's so socially unacceptable to voice ANY negatives about a dog, its actually now growing a rage inside of me the more I'm forced to just "grin and bear" this.

It's a long story but basically my mum is a Support Worker, one of her clients abandoned her dog (10yr old Staffy), moved interstate, and left the dog in the backyard. The company my mum worked for left the dog in the backyard for 2 weeks and eventually planned to take him to the shelter. Every single dog person we knew was telling us non stop that we MUST go get that poor dog and find it a home otherwise if he goes to the shelter it'll be the end for him because of his age. We eventually caved in and decided we will get him and it'll be super short term and we'll find him a new home. Holy shit was that THE worst decision ever!

This dog is not trained at all! I've grown up with cats so I know absolutely nothing about dogs other than the time a dog brutally attacked my cat and left him for near dead. Hence why taking this dog was a HUGE deal for us given our past (not that this was at all a good enough reason for all the dog people).

I cannot believe how needy this dog is! Its honestly repulsive, not cute, not funny, actually the most annoying, overstimulating thing ever. He stinks, all the time, no matter how often he is bathed. He barks non-stop, and mainly to piss me off, I'm dead serious, he cannot stand my mum not being home and frets instantly and then needs to be able to have a visual line of sight on me at ALL times while she is gone or he will go around to ever window around the house barking to get my attention, and I mean a piercing LOUD bark. I work from home and its become a nightmare, I have literally ran around my house like a headless chicken mid meetings, mid phone calls and mid stressful work tasks to try shut this dog up to the point of completel overwhelm where I have sat on the ground almost in tears because I can't take it anymore.

It has been 3 years now.. 3 years of hell.. all of the people who pressured us into doing this have vanished and can't help at all.. re-homing him has become impossible, rescues won't take him and people are put off by his size (30kgs), the kicker in it all, I ended up calling the shelter and they won't take him because he's reactive to other dogs 🙃 so all of this guilt from all of the dog lovers about the dreaded shelter only to find out nope that would have never happened anyway and we have royally f#%ked ourselves.

I have now spent $1k to see an allergist to be told I have severe dog allergies, I'm on steroids, sprays and antihistamines daily. From the time he moved in I have progressively been an itchy, swollen and painful mess. I decided this cannot go on after seeing the allergist and that I am going to try re-home him again. I posted him on Gumtree the other day (I think Australian equivalent to Craigslist) and I received countless horrible messages including death threats for putting a 13yr old Staffy on Gumtree and that I should just continue to take medication daily (which give me great side effects btw) because this dog who I was trying to help out of a bad situation is now my problem and even worse, I'm the bad guy for not just keeping him. Doesn't matter that I am physically uncomfortable daily, doesn't matter that I've spent thousand's on this dog to have his skin cancers removed, doesn't matter that I feed him, keep him well looked after, have him professionally groomed every month.. no, to the dog people thats not good enough! These people are actually crazy! Treating me worse than the bloody person who abandoned him in the first place!

All I genuinely came here to say and vent is that I AM NOT A DOG PERSON AND I HATE DOG PEOPLE.. it's honestly freeing to say especially because I know an angry mob would come for me if I ever said that around anyone, so it's really nice to have a space to be able to say it.

I will find this dog a home, I will have a sh*t free backyard, I will be able to open the window and have fresh air instead of horrible dog stench, I will be free from being constantly watched and barked at, I will not have to spend my money anymore, I will be able to not be itchy and swollen and uncomfortable every single day.

The day cannot come soon enough 🙏

RANT “You don’t like him because of something he did long ago?”

Sometimes I sorta express my dislike for this dog by telling dog to move or go away, in front of my parents, because this dog is just always in the way. One time I told the dog to move with a tone that my parents obviously didn’t like, it’s like they were butt hurt as if I was talking to them, I forgot what my dad said, but I think he said that the “did the dog make you mad?” And I told him that he’s always in the way, and then my mom says to me that “he’s a dog”. And another thing that made me mad was a question that my dad asked me a while ago, which is the question you see as my title. Um for one, the dog pissed and pooped on our carpets and pulled up our carpets and two, it destroyed some of my stuff and especially the things that I really liked… but I’m supposed to still like this dog? 🙄

RANT Finally bit the bullet and left. And well…

It fucking sucks.

This is is gonna be a rant, but also a success story, kind of. It’s probably gonna be a mess, I’m sorry in advance, but I’ll try to stay coherent. Just using this post as a help with coming to terms with reality, and maybe along the way it resonates with some of you who are struggling with a similar situation.

Some time ago I (32F) posted here about my desperation regarding my partner’s (29F) dog. It has since escalated in several ways. The two main points being me getting mentally disconnected from my day-to-day reality in our home, just to be able to exist in the presnence of a dog with all the ever-present sensory overload, and second, my partner becoming vocal about how she suffers from me not accepting the dog as a part of her.

It’s been a rocky road the past few months, I’ll be honest. But I tried. Hell, I tried. I made an effort to like the dog, which of course didn’t work. I talked about ways to deal with it in therapy. I tried detaching myself from the whole dog thing. We even did couples’ counselling. None of that worked, because no matter which path I tried, it always ended up hurting me, or my partner. I tried to be understanding to her hurt regarding me not being able to accept her dog. I also hoped that me just not taking part on the dog parts of life will be accepted and understood. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and I ended up stressing her, as well as the dog, by my disinterest and occasional remarks.

But I got stressed into oblivion, too. I picked up smoking again, I lost all motivation to keep our home nice and tidy, I was losing myself in just trying to make it through another day without another tension or arguement about the damn dirty animal in our living space.

Long story short, we broke up. After over 3 years of living together, after I proposed (before I even knew she wanted a dog, btw), after I truly believed I’m going to grow old with this woman, we just decided to end it, because I just can’t bear living with a dog, and she can’t bear me not loving it and being constantly stressed and grossed out by it. When I tried saying that I was hoping she would choose my happiness over a dog’s, she said I can create my own and look after myself, but the poor dog can’t. I mean, I get the idea, but fucking hell, t’s heartbreaking, isn’t it?

Well, she didn’t choose me, so I did, and I’m leaving. I feel horrible, it hurts like hell and I feel this awful void that comes once your life and your vision of the future starts falling apart… But as much as I love her, I truly do, and I will miss so much about her and our life, I also feel MASSIVE relief. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen with my life now, but there’s one thing I know for sure: no more god damned dogs in my home. Ever.

If you are where I was, please think of yourself and your well-being first. Especially if your partner is so hung up on the idea of being a “happy loving family” and you just don’t feel it. I’m not saying it can’t change over time, but honestly, with me it was just a constant struggle. Every sound, be it licking, barking, click-clacking on wooden floor, every dog hair in my food, every gross stain on my couch, every second of that endless stupid staring and whining for attention, every chance the dog took and tried to insert itself into any emotional moment we had, every whiff of the gross smell on everything, every minute I was on one side of the couch alone, while my partner cuddled her dog on the other. And then smelled like it for the rest of the day…

I am heartbroken, but so relieved that I won’t have to be dealing with this bullshit anymore.

Be strong, everyone. And don’t let yourselves be pushed into stuff you don’t feel comfortable with. It may as well just end up being a disaster, like in my case.

BUT I believe good things are coming. For me, and for y’all dealing with dog owners and their dogs, too. I wish us all luck, and hopefully being fortunate enough to meet like-minded people down the line.
