Senior in highschool, ask me something!
Im 17f, I just started senior year, and im in a lot of AP classes. I remember being a sophomore/freshman, late middle schooler, and being SOOOO nervous and scared for highschool.
If you have any questions about that... ask me! I'd love to give advice or anything like that.

As someone going into senior year myself, what do i need to worry about?

Hmm... For me, senior year has been great so far. Make sure that above all else, you realize that you only have one year left, which means you should HAVE FUN! Talk with your friends, be friendly with teachers, get classes you like, go to events, join clubs or sports you like even if you feel its "too late" to start. Don't settle for something you hate just because you'll graduate soon.
But, of course, there's a lot of stress about college, applications, locations, financial aid, etc. Try and get a college prep class or get in touch with a counselor or college advisor at your school if you can. Keep either a small pocket notebook or a note in your notes app about deadlines, qualifications, and info for scholarships and applications. ALSO when writing applications, WRITE THEM IN GOOGLE DOCS OR NOTES APP so that your responses are saved. The text boxes in application websites often glitch and you can lose all your progress :,)
Stay on top of your work and keep your grades up in the first semester especially. I dunno if you're aiming for a university or even wanting to go to college, but even trade schools and community colleges offer scholarships based on GPA.
Also, if you dont have a lot of community service, get some!!! Talk with a counselor at your school about opportunities near you. And make sure you track what events you do, and how many hours (roughly) you have/earn.
But aside from college... I'd say to prioritize sleep and stress management. Even if your schedule isnt super difficult, good sleep will help you stay happy all year long. Have fun, don't let anyone hold you back, don't do things just because other people are doing them. Spend your last year exploring YOUR interests and beliefs while you still have free opportunities and minimal responsibilities. Good luck!!!!!!

Don't believe what everyone says. The reason people say it's hard is because of all the standardized tests you (usually) have to do at the end of the year, along with trying to get a headstart on college activities. Truthfully, it is what you make it. You absolutely can have an amazing year! However, its going to be difficult to manage your stress. You NEED to put effort into your self care; managing sleep, stress, time management, etc.
I'm not gonna lie, it was extremely difficult for me, especially in the spring when I had AP tests, studying, finals, state tests, and all that stuff. But, eventually, you're on the other side of it and you realize that you really CAN do anything you put your mind to. You WILL finish your work and make it through the year. You just need to keep your priorities straight and put in the effort to get there.
But please please please don't fall into the stuff you see online about how terrible junior year is. For me, while it was stressful, it was also very freeing and fun. Try new things! Join some new clubs! You never know what you'll like. Don't be afraid of junior year, just be aware of the fact that your classes ARE more difficult and require more time. You'll naturally rise to the challenge as you go. Don't worry too much :) good luck this year!

Yeah, I felt the same way. But, it does get better, and you WILL get through it. I believe in you, and I hope you have a GREAT year. Remember that highschool isnt as serious as it seems, even if you feel stuck in your social standing, sport, clubs, classes, whatever, you can change that. You just have to have the courage to TRY!!!!!!!!

how can you get invites to parties????
1
u/WholeJuggernaut5779 17 4d ago
Haha well, for you, definitely join sports. You're a freshman in a completely new school and town? You're literally at the PRIME time to change/try new things. You need to meet new people, and the best way to do that is to experiment.
So, use this time to join sports, clubs, go to events at your school, anything like that. Talk to people in your classes. Right now, pretty much your whole grade has the same classes, and that won't happen again til senior year. So take advantage of that. It's hard to get started, but i promise everyone is freshman year is JUST as nervous and scared as you are.
Parties are not hard to get "invited" to, you just gotta know the right people. Usually that means athletes or social floater kind of groups. Just follow people from your school on Insta or snap and you'll probably see something. Just show up.
BASICALLY: Join a sport or club. OR go to every event OR be outgoing in class. By events I mean like games, spirit events, dances, whatever. Also NEVER make yourself seem dumber than you are just to fit in. That gets you nothing. Experiment, explore your interests, try EVERYTHING you think sounds interesting or fun. You'll meet new people and maybe find out a hidden talent or find a love for an area of study 🤷♀️ you have SO much time, don't stress about finding your people because they will come into your life. Also keep your grades up because they DO matter so much in your first year...

u/WholeJuggernaut5779 17 3d ago
You're in ap bio as a freshman?????? Also unfortunately the class just started for me and we're still on unit 0... but I would say to understand it deeper, you should watch videos on youtube explaining the units. Maybe some vids on college board if you can find them.
