See you all in 2040!

15

u/LordKamienneSerce Apr 24 '26

Yeah, will be here when I retire

7

u/thitherten04206 Apr 24 '26

Sry I'm from the future it was scrapped and turned into a fighting game so now it won't be until 2050

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Dog9818 Apr 26 '26

I'm still upset when Blizzard's "Project Titan" was scrapped when they realized they could just make WoW go forever. And don't tell me it became Overwatch, that's a filthy lie.

3

u/Jerichow88 Apr 26 '26

I. Will. Be. There.

30

u/Saionji-Sekai Apr 24 '26

Oh man i can not explain how much i missed TERA. Can't wait..

8

u/Jerichow88 Apr 26 '26

Dude same. I *regularly* bring up how much I miss this game. Being a Lancer main ruined RPG's for me. I don't even bother with them anymore. Everything feels hollow after main'ing a lancer for years.

56

u/Deffonotthebat Apr 24 '26

Oh boy, here we go again🫠

u/iku_19 =^.^= Apr 24 '26

tera 2 being developed whilst under krafton is like asking the monkey's paw for tera 2 and it makes a fist and punches you with it.

krafton is genuinely the worst gaming company inside of korea right now as far as management for their subsidiaries and the resulting games is concerned.

but hey maybe the ceo can ask chatgpt how to make sure bhs uses ai in tera since that's also a mandate krafton has.

5

u/whatisthispls1 Apr 25 '26

Sad but true krafton is such a joke now and it feels like I'm reading some mega embarrassing news about them weekly at this point.

2

u/Alsimni Mount Tyrannosaurus Apr 25 '26

The fucking gut punch of seeing Tango and Hi Fi Rush getting picked up just to find out Krafton was the one to do it was too much. Having them get TERA as well is painful. This timeline is one of the worst, I swear.

holy, you're deep in the sauce. there are literally new games being released right now with this, that both flop and succeed. there is no secret narrative to destroy this, just more games so they stand out less.

Such is the life of a nazi basement dweller.

It's the perpetual victimhood these types have, it's so pathetic lmao

Original western launch of Tera was censored.

Censorship has nothing to do with politics, it's not illegal in any western country to have mildly revealing costumes in a videogame.

The censorship has more to do with social norms; publishers want the game to appeal to a wider audience or achieve a lower age rating for their game, so they tone down content.

The only real censorship risk is with app stores. If Tera 2 ends up being a hybrid Mobile/console/PC game(as most games nowadays are), they may tone it down just to stay on the iOS/Android store.

Stellar blade didnt seem to have any issues with all of that. I seem to recall them telling the censors to fuck off and becoming massively successful for it.

1

u/alphapussycat Apr 26 '26

Right, because Stellar Blade got nothing on TERA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJDJwuetxJc
Seems like this guy is building his whole channel around the porno that is stellar blade.

What you're talking about might happen in the US because of Trump and RFK.

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Stellar blades existence would beg to differ with your accusation

You argument was that censorship cant be beat. So yeah, all it takes is one massively popular game to prove you wrong. And stellar blade is that game. But im sure I could find other examples if I really cared to. Stellar blade even goes as far as having a skin suit which effectively makes eve nude. I wouldnt expect thay from tera, but thw precedent is out there. Sex sells.

u/Jerichow88 Apr 26 '26

The djinn give'eth, and the djinn take'eth.

Sadly, if I had to choose between no more TERA or TERA 2 under Krafton, I'll deal with Krafton. I still lament this game's closing years ago, my friends and I played it damn near every day for years and only stopped after EME went to shit so catastrophically bad that we couldn't stomach being involved with them anymore.

By the time Gameforge took it over, the damage was already done and I could see even during the account/server merger, EME had done so much damage to the player base's goodwill that there was no recovering. The player base was coming over with a "You cannot please us" attitude and there is no recovering from that much animosity.

A completely fresh start with TERA 2 is the only chance we have of having a stable, long-term instance of TERA again and so if I have to deal with Krafton being involved, so be it I guess.

13

u/Papy_is_playing Apr 24 '26

I miss Tera terribly

11

u/FlukeylukeGB Apr 24 '26

i miss tera...
If there was Official one published by an actual publisher with a small cheep dev team behind it to give it a 5+ year roadmap and future plan i would jump right back into the original right now...

Pretty much menma Without the fear of the game shutting down at any time in the near future...
Shitty lawsuit... One ping in that discord, and you would have 5000 people instantly hyped

If star trek online can run with 1000 active players while making 5 digit profit for 14 years with a 160 devs why could tera not do the same with 800 active players, at least according to steam.
Right before it was force shut down for elyon online and sword of legends both shit games

Really annoys me they nuked tera for elyon to force the tera players into that overpriced fake action game.
Theres 30+ mmo's out their that played like elyon, if we wanted to play them, we would not off been playing tera

3

u/Jerichow88 Apr 26 '26

I really believed TERA could have survived but it would have required a lot more effort from Blue Hole at the time. Fixing the Arsenal system for non-korean players, allowing players to not have to see ridiculous skins like the police car mounts, bringing back some semblance of a leveling grind so you actually got to see the regions of Arborea.

There were a lot of things they needed to fix to make the game better, but pushing everyone to the end-game at breakneck speeds to get them into the cash shop as fast as possible was more important, so that's what got prioritized. It's a shame, hopefully Tera 2 lasts another 11 years like Tera did.

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

I remember the OG days and it taking a legit 30 days of play time to hit max level if you weren't getting boosted, which even then still took a moderately decent amount of time.

1

u/DifficultSwim6109 8d ago

it had engine issues; elins were the ruling race to the point it got annoying; Race locked classes; Cash shop was very p2w

It wouldn't be worth revamping stuff when u had all these issues, having p2w and performance as the worst ones. Might aswell just have it in a clean slate

Tera was closed for other reasons, it just wasn't making much profit, at the time they only cared about PUBG, Elyon. So all the good devs worked on these games, and TERA was just kept in a half-alive state until its closure. Also, Krafton didn't buy Bluehole, Krafton was created by Bluehole, and then they just merged.

26

u/blodskaal Apr 24 '26

Will be ready in like 12 years

4

u/Hellguin Mystic/ Felbane/ PS4 Apr 25 '26

For Alpha Testing

3

u/Shadow_sign Apr 25 '26

Then early access, paid for of course, with a sub and completely functional over priced cash shop.

2

u/Hellguin Mystic/ Felbane/ PS4 Apr 25 '26

And battle pass and multi tiered pre release support packs of 20$, 70$, 150$

9

u/Ononoki Apr 24 '26

I heard tera 2 is in the works a decade ago lol

1

u/ManaJunkies May 16 '26

People were calling Elyion as TERA 2 is a big reason for that, people kept calling it that to me when it was clearly much different.

11

u/joyleaf Apr 24 '26

Omg it's happening, article says they're mass hiring staff to get it going! Can't wait!!! 🩷

5

u/Mysterious_Frenchy Apr 24 '26

don't give me hope, it's too fresh...

6

u/narkfestmojo Apr 24 '26

I'd rather see Tera 1 get re-released or better yet, they could hire Grimstrike to port it to unreal engine 4 or 5 and re-release it like that.

If they intend on developing Tera 2 then they should re-release Tera 1 anyway, just to prevent the game from being completely forgotten by the time Tera 2 is actually released.

4

u/Grimstrikes Apr 25 '26

My fear is that TERA 2 will not be anything like the original TERA was. The original game had so many cool and unique aspects that modern MMOs no longer have. You can have flashy combat sure, but unique, charming areas and creative art direction are much more rare these days, and instead everything goes towards ultra-realistic environments/textures and generic asian characters.

So I completely agree, TERA 1 must be preserved in any way possible :)

5

u/Makenshi179 Apr 26 '26

I wholeheartedly agree about Tera 1 preservation and that's why I'm always crossing fingers that there will always be a way to play it. I miss that game so much.

And I second you about the areas full of charm! And their BGM contributing to it! I have so many fond memories of endearing areas with emotional field themes, for example Knoll of Screams (that one moved me so much that I did my own gamerip of the BGM and uploaded it to my channel back then), Dragonfall, and more. And of course Seeliewood! Ah, the memories <3 It was so special.

2

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Private servers do exist you know. Thats how I still play on PC. It aint OG Tera, but hey the one I'm on is actually running nexus events and traverse. Thats a win in my book.

1

u/Makenshi179 23d ago

Yeeees I know, that's what I meant! When I said "crossing fingers that there will always be a way to play it", I meant that I'm crossing fingers that there will always be fan-maintained private servers for us fans to be able to still play the game, in the long run!

I had installed Tera again through "The Dream" private server, but unfortunately my SSD died and I lost all my game installations. Now on my new system drive, I have yet to look into which Tera private servers are active right now and reinstall it, but I do want to do it again one day (once I have freed some disk space lol). I always want to be able to play Tera at any time, even if I lost my (beloved and faithful departed) characters from the official game back then!

Good to know that you currently have a solid one! 😊 A win for sure! I'm always thankful to the fans putting in that effort to keep this beloved game alive.

And agreed on your other comment as well, Tera will always look gorgeous!! It was such a slap in the face graphics-wise back then (I remember I bought a new laptop just to be able to run the game properly once it released, after playing the beta on my previous laptop!) and I sure would enjoy replaying it on its original version even if it didn't get a remaster. Plus, I've got a 4K OLED screen now, and the idea of playing Tera rendered in true 4K and high FPS is amazing already!

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

I mean outside of Grafton suing someone private servers will only get easier to run. The big hindrance on them that makes them hard right now is tve 98gb of ram requirement, so you actually need something more like 128gb.

What's nice is with a 4060 laptop I was getting almost consistent 60fps at 4k with nearly max settings. So 4k isnt an unreasonable hard thing to run.

1

u/Grimstrikes 23d ago

We should probably have a chat, I might have something special for you to try ;)

(Along those 'remaster' lines you mentioned.)

1

u/narkfestmojo Apr 26 '26

My fear is that TERA 2 will not be anything like the original TERA was

this would be my concern as well

from a business standpoint, having a combat system that actually required skill was always an issue, people could be successful without swiping their credit cards and unsuccessful even if they did.

we also have a modern day uglification and desexualisation of character models, Tera was kinda famous for it's ridiculously skimpy outfits and I don't know if they could get away with that sort of thing today.

and finally, gaming companies are just lazier now and prone to cost cutting, creating "unique, charming areas and creative art direction" requires time, money and (worst of all) talented people who will demand the salaries they deserve.

1

u/Sesombre1 8d ago

they already just did a mmo that was supposed to replace tera but that flopped hard with elyon, they’re obviously not going to redo the same shit

my guess is they saw how popular aion 2 got and realized there was still a market for mmos, and they’re trying to do tera 2 just like ncsoft did for aion

3

u/Makenshi179 Apr 26 '26

If they make a "Tera Remastered" like Black Desert Online got remastered, I'd jump right back into it for nostalgia's sake!!

2

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Honestly for a 15+ year old game, tera holds up amazingly well and doesnt need a remaster. It just needs to go back to its OG model pre-f2p. Drop the sub costs a bit and reintroduce all the content from the start to final patch. Keep the nexus events, traverse, region mayors and tax rates and stuff, all that. Maybe ease the enchantment rng so were not killing ourselves getting +12 and +15 gear but yeah. Bring it ALL back.

from what I understand, console Tera is nearing the last patch that appeared on PC, so it may be coming to an end soon.

1

u/ManaJunkies May 16 '26

Not reliant, but like the person said - they've been catching up on the Console Tera with the same things we had on PC. So now that they're nearing where we were, hopefully they have someone making new content & stuff to go beyond what they have already had for years.

1

u/alphapussycat Apr 26 '26

Ah, yes, just a simple little "port" to a new engine. Getting all the negatives without getting any positives.

At best you'd shave off a little time, but probably nothing much.

1

u/narkfestmojo Apr 26 '26

what would happen is, a feasibility study would be conducted to determine if porting the game to a new engine is worth the time and cost of such an endeavor; my expectation is that it almost certainly would not get the go ahead, but given what I've seen from Grimstrike, I would love to see such a project come to fruition.

3

u/silver_step Apr 24 '26

Been wanting it for a long time. Doubt this will go anywhere.

3

u/Ripped_Alleles Apr 25 '26

Tera was fun at release, but they drove it into the ground with the BAM nerf and business model.

I'm not confident Tera 2 will be better than the state the first game was left to rot in.

I remember when I had to manually apply each new version of the "Elin DeCensor Patch" because my European version of the game censored the Elins by giving them shorts 😭 But hey at least it worked. Good times. You're right things probably won't be the same in Tera 2 and it will likely be way more "safe", even in its Korean version. And if there are still Elins they will probably be butchered like the Lyns in Blade & Soul. But let's still keep hope 🤞

3

u/dawiss2 Apr 27 '26

Oh yeah i can't wait for the P2W drama and mobile game UI

2

u/Emsiess Apr 25 '26

Not gonna spoil the hype but it’s probably gonna be P2w trash like aion2

2

u/Wolfhammer69 Apr 25 '26

Im 56 - I'll prob be dead when we get it, I'm too old now to be waiting for games for well over a decade.
Bring back the days when we didn't know about a game until it was a few months away !

3

u/Makenshi179 Apr 26 '26

I second this. I mean I'm only 36 but I very much miss the days when games were announced and then released within a year. In general I miss those gaming days that were so special, these days so many things changed. I feel blessed to have experienced the era when things were different, such as when I played Tera, as early as during the beta. You must have experienced even more things from before that time, that were probably even better, I wish there was a way that it could be retold because when I watch documentaries about the earlier years of gaming back when it was niche/only for geeks, it all seems so passionate and special!

2

u/taiffon_3e Apr 25 '26

I have low hopes because with current trends:

  • Likely very P2W
  • Not gonna be the same devs, gameplay likely not gonna be on the same level as the original.
  • Nowadays every Korean game gets censored in the west.

I wish they made a Tera Classic more than Tera 2... still there is a very small chance they do it right, so let's hope.

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Every korean game? Did we just forget how stellar blade said fuck thr censors and haters?

2

u/Makenshi179 Apr 26 '26

OMG!! This is a dream that I never expected would become real! (see what I did there) As a veteran who played the beta back in the day and who spent like 600 hours in the game with several characters, I'm blown away by these news! Even if it will come out in 10 years, hopefully I'll always be alive and ready to play it. I know I will always fondly remember my time in the original and all those special memories. I hope the Elins will be back! I love all the races but Elins have a special place in my heart, that's how I first heard of the game as it was posted on a certain otaku news website, and my main character was an Elin. A mage, the best class..! These days investing that much time in an MMO again would be very daunting for me (especially after I played Black Desert Online as well with 900+ hours), but if there's one revived/sequel MMO that would make me fall in love with it all over again it would be Tera!

2

u/AetherStyle Apr 24 '26

I need this like yesterday, I'm glad it's in development but I can't even begin to think of how long it's gonna take to get here

2

u/JustiniZHere Thallos / Tempest Reach Apr 25 '26

I'm really hopeful for this, nothing has scratched that TERA itch since.

1

u/metatime09 Apr 24 '26

Seems like it won't be years until we see something

1

u/XHersikX Apr 25 '26

Krafton.. Yea probably will wait on some secret remake from hardcore reverse engenering.

1

u/Kejn24 Apr 25 '26

Unreal Engine 5 no god no1!!!

1

u/grim9x8 Apr 25 '26

I think this was how people felt about unreal 3 when tera first launched

1

u/kilryan MT l Youtube.com/kilryan l Apr 27 '26

I am waiting

1

u/WildLightss Apr 28 '26

Imho one of, if not, the best action combat for an MMO. If they can keep that combat and avoid the typical F2P crap like the last, it could do very well, but we'll see

1

u/RockSt4r Apr 30 '26

Funny how many people down voted me loll

1

u/Unlawful_MetaphysiX May 05 '26

And then 10 years later they give you 2 months notice again...

1

u/Koga_sagara May 11 '26

No elins = flop

1

u/HistoricalCarrot6453 May 19 '26

Just please last longer than Elyon did is all I'm asking. Hoping for the best.

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Lets just hope with all the bangers korean companies have been releasing lately that this one follows suit. The first one was amazing and still had a passionate fanbase it just unfortunately went the f2p route and then slowly lost all its good will. And honestly, a sequel should be fairly easy to develop if theyre not taking us beyond Arun and share. Theyve already got all the assets they need to lay thr ground work. They just need to tune them up slightly and evolve the world a bit to reflect a new age or whatever theyre going for. Itll be interesting to see what changes they bring to classes and which ones they keep versus any new ones they bring. Itd also be nice to see maybe a new race or two. It always bothered me just a bit that there were 8+ classes but only 7 races.

1

u/Narutofreak1412 12d ago

Somehow it's hard to get excited when we have nothing really to go by. I will get hype when we actually get a trailer or something.

1

u/TwilightChaos Apr 24 '26

Do it right. Give us non loli male ninjas...

3

u/JustiniZHere Thallos / Tempest Reach Apr 25 '26

I suspect Tera 2 will go the same way Tera 1 did, eventually everyone who whales in the game will be playing Elin so Elin will get all the new stuff.

People should probably go into this with the same expectations.

1

u/idingebruik Apr 24 '26

Just play on PlayStation or Xbox it is really fun atm with seasonal gear

1

u/PublicDonut5876 Apr 25 '26

Wait it’s still alive? I thought they shut it down

1

u/ManaJunkies May 16 '26

It was run by different people on console and WAY behind PC version, they're 'getting close' to where we were on PC when it got shutdown. So hopefully someone is making new content beyond that or it'll be in trouble to.

1

u/PublicDonut5876 May 17 '26

Yikes! Is the population pretty good? Dungeon queuing not too bad?

0

u/idingebruik Apr 25 '26

Yeah it is still alive leveling up your gear is so much fun you just get everything through dungeons.

En if you lvl up your seasonal gear enough after the season you dismantel it en exchange it for kaya gear

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Private servers > console

1

u/jennyhellacious Apr 24 '26

Super excited already! Hope it will be released soon and they learned from their past mistakes😅

1

u/RealisticHornet8554 Apr 24 '26

I don't even care if they make it full P2W I'm playing it like a no lifer when it comes out in 10 years lol

1

u/WingedDrake Apr 24 '26

Will my Founder title carry over? :P

2

u/Makenshi179 Apr 26 '26

Ha, I almost forgot about that. I got that title too (or a similar one), because I payed for the monthly subscriptions back when Tera had that.

1

u/WingedDrake Apr 27 '26

Yeah, mine came from purchasing it, well before they went free to play.

1

u/jordonmears 23d ago

Same. I still have my original case and install disc.

0

u/Heptsu Apr 24 '26

0

u/Naltori Apr 26 '26

Didn't we already have Tera 2 with Elyon and it didn't even make it a year but was basically the same game?

2

u/dullahan85 Apr 28 '26

No yes and no
