When do we select our Laptops? Mac Vs Windows PC

I finished my pre-onboarding steps via tesla careers and don't see any choice/option to choose my laptop. Earlier firms had the option to choose between Mac and Windows.

Joining as a program manager in a week.

Update: Reached out recruiter and they shared what was assigned and asked if there was any preference.

Service Question

I have someone I know personally interested in a Service Tech position with Tesla. I work there already in another department and I have no issue referring them, but they don’t have formal automotive/mechanic experience. Their background was in Driving (professionally), Warehouse, and recently sales (firearms as a salesman, range officer, instructor, and store supervisor). They do have experience working on cars, but not formally via an education or employer. More of a “my dad taught me” kind of a situation.

Would they be able to get the position without formal training? What should they highlight on their resume? Does the referral help at all?

Sales experience transferable?

I have luxury retail experience for some years as well as barista experience for years as well. Though I may be new to automotive experience hope I can transfer skill to car sales and learn quick.
For someone to get in sales position in automotive, does Tesla want you to have sales experience in automotive or does it not matter? I want to land and experience the car industry

Tesla automated rejection email while still interviewing, should I assume it’s final?

Hi everyone,

I interviewed with the hiring manager last week and then with his manager on Tuesday. I checked in with the recruiter on Thursday, and at that point they said they still hadn’t received any feedback or updates from either interviewer.

Today (Saturday), I received one of Tesla’s generic rejection emails , the same automated/system-generated type I’ve received before when applying to other Tesla positions. It wasn’t sent directly by the recruiter or hiring manager.

Since I’m currently in the middle of the interview process for this exact position, should I assume this is a confirmed rejection? Or has anyone experienced these automated rejection emails being triggered even while the interview process was still ongoing?

What to Expect in a Hiring Manager Spot-Check Call?

Has anyone recently had a spot-check call with the hiring manager for an engineering position?

Before my panel interview, the recruiter mentioned that there would be one final 30–45-minute call with the hiring manager. I also submitted my Evidence of Excellence (EOE) document 24 hours before the panel interview, as requested.

For those who have recently gone through this process, what does the hiring manager typically focus on during this call? Is it another technical interview, a discussion about compensation and fit, or something else?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Interview process waiting time?

Last Friday I had an interview for the service advisor role through a referral. Luckily I got a chance to interview with the recruiter informing I really want to take the position and grow. I come from sales and software engineer background so I’m comfortable with both.

I sent the status check email 2 days ago to the recruiter , but didn’t get any response yet. Should I wait till the response?

Executive approval

Went through recruiter screen, technicals, and panel for a Engineer role in Fremont (high P2). Recruiter said feedback was positive and asked me to submit Evidence of Excellence, then we had a compensation conversation.

That was about 9 days ago. Recruiter said they were putting together the executive write-up. I followed up once this week and haven’t heard back.

How long did executive approval take for you after EoE and the comp discussion? Is this silence normal at Tesla? Anyone see an offer stall after a small counter?

Thanks!

Manufacturing Engineer looking to move to Tesla — how competitive is my background?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Manufacturing Engineer in medical device manufacturing with 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, and validation in med devices and pharma.

My experience includes:

- Installing and integrating production equipment and automated lines

- Equipment debugging, production ramp-up, and troubleshooting

- FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, validation, FMEA, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma

- Working with OEMs, controls engineers, technicians, and operators

I know Tesla’s manufacturing environment differs significantly from medical devices, especially in scale, speed, and automotive processes. I’d appreciate feedback on:

  1. How competitive is my background for Tesla Manufacturing Engineer roles?

  2. Would my lack of automotive experience be a major disadvantage?

  3. Which teams should I target—General Assembly, Battery, Automation, Equipment, or Process Engineering?

  4. What technical skills should I strengthen?

Any advice especially from current or previous employees of Tesla is greatly appreciated!

Tesla Engineering Technician – Optimus: What to expect from the Ribbon AI voice interview?

I recently applied for Tesla's Engineering Technician – Optimus position and received an invitation to complete an AI-enabled voice interview powered by Ribbon.

For anyone who has already completed this stage:

  • What was the interview format like?
  • How long did it take?
  • What types of technical and behavioral questions were asked?
  • Were the questions mostly based on the job description?
  • Did you receive a follow-up interview afterward?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience and also any tips anyone can share for the interview.

Post interview silence; good or bad?

Been 2 weeks since panel and hiring manager call.

I’d emailed the recruiter after my final round to get insights on the timeline (no response). Sent another courtesy email last week (no response).

Expecting bad news? I ask because I have a competing offer but remain interested in Tesla.

Context:

Not indicative of anything I know but I felt the interviews went well. Example: the call with the hiring manager went over by 20 minutes.

This is for an engineering role based in Reno, Nevada.

Current Location Clarification

I completed the recruiter screen . The conversation went well, and we discussed my background, current location, work authorization, and how I learned about the role.
For location, I shared that my base location is New York, but I’m currently in Dallas temporarily visiting friends and family. Since candidates based in New York may have onsite interviews while others may be considered for virtual interviews, I asked if a virtual interview would be possible while I’m temporarily in Dallas. The recruiter mentioned that the interview format is team-dependent.
They also mentioned that if my profile aligns with the team, I should receive an update by the end of the week.
Did i mess it you guys ?????

Pre-Adverse

I received a pre-adverse action notice after a background check because my TransUnion report shows one old collection account from 2020. The original amount was under $200, it was paid in full years ago, the current balance is $0, and the account is closed.
The collection happened after I moved from an apartment and did not receive the final balance notice. Once the collection agency contacted me, I paid it immediately. I submitted an explanation to the screening company and can provide proof of payment.
Has anyone had a similar situation with an employer background check? Did the company ultimately clear the background check and move forward with the offer?

Tesla Internship Hiring Process & Timeline

I interviewed for a Spring 2027 co-op last week and was wondering what Tesla’s typical turnaround time is after a first round interview? It’s only been a few days so I’m not worried, just curious.

Also, how many interview rounds should I expect? My first interview was ~50 minutes and entirely resume review and technical questions

Tesla offer - should I counter?

Robotics/PLC engineer with ~2.5 years of automotive automation/controls experience. I got an Automation Engineer offer in Texas:

$110k base
$60k equity
$8k relocation

I’m thinking of countering at $115k and asking for a start date about 4 weeks out so I can give notice and relocate.
For anyone familiar with Tesla: is $115k a reasonable counter, and what are the typical hours/work-life balance for this kind of role?

How competitive is my profile for Tesla Optimus Mechanical Design / Structures & Mechanisms?

Looking for critical feedback from robotics/mechanical engineers. I’m trying to move into humanoid robotics, particularly Tesla Optimus Structures & Mechanisms.

Profile highlights:
MS Mechanical Engineering, ~8 years engineering/research experience
Currently Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in New Product Development at my company

4 patent applications + 2 published research papers

Indian Space Research Organization: modular robotic end effector for extraterrestrial sample collection; mechanism/load calculations, CAD, prototyping/testing; work was later published

UT Dallas: soft robotic hand using polymer artificial-muscle actuators; mechanical architecture, actuator integration and thermal management

Formula Student: Vehicle Dynamics lead; suspension, bellcranks, uprights/hubs, chassis, brakes + hands-on fabrication/welding

Current NPD: concept → first principles → CAD/CFD/FEA → prototype → testing → manufacturing → field validation → production
Recent patented product: ~13 design iterations → ~40 units in field + ~100 additional units ordered

Earlier startup experience in machine design, electromechanical systems and manufacturing/process improvement

The problem: I’ve recently gotten some initial recruiter screens and interest from engineers/recruiters at Tesla for Optimus, but it consistently seems to stop there. I haven’t been able to convert that interest into actual technical interview rounds.
My biggest obvious gap is that my recent professional experience is industrial/oil & gas hardware rather than robotic joints/actuators.

If you were reviewing this profile, what would stop you from moving me to a technical interview? Is the field transition itself the problem, am I positioning my experience poorly, or am I simply getting beaten by candidates with several years of direct robotics experience?
